When did you put in your pre-order? I put mine in about a week before they started shipping and I still don't have it here in Fort Bend county.Originally posted by mike_in_texas:Got it here in Houston!

What is the deal with this? Is this just a site to find someone to play?

I have seen this a few times and it was really annoying. It has gone way for me when I quit and restart CM. I don't recall if I had to reboot any of the these times.Originally posted by davidh:Just upgraded to a new Mac (933MHz with GeForceMX4 and 768 MB RAM). I have OS 9.2.2 installed on a second hard drive to run my old stuff and OS X on a whole different drive, so to play CM I boot from the OS 9 drive.
Initially the game will run just fine, but if I quit and come back to it later (after running other apps such as Internet Explorer, Appleworks, or even if I simply come back after the computer has been asleep) CM runs very poorly. The mouse pointer movement is choppy, scrolling the map (by keyboard or game controls) is slow and choppy, and general response to keyboard commands is slow. Once I restart the computer it's fine again till I use other apps or sleep as noted above.
I've tried adjusting memory allocation up and down, have virtual memory off, and am running OS 9.2.2 without any new funky extensions or add-ons.
Previously, I was running the game on an old desktop G3/233 and a Powerbook G3/400, both with OS 9.0.4 and I'd never seen this problem.
Any ideas or suggestions?
I would like to know the cause. I don't like it is a hot card in my case.

Are you using NAT? That appears to mess up hosting.
-
If you installed the TCP/IP addition by dragging everything out the folders and into the CM folder, it won't work. So when all else fails read the instructions. That was the final part that fixed it for me. Re-installed it correctely and it worked as advertized.
BTW, is this a direct internet connection or via a router with NAT or a Firewall?

OK, I am using a Xsense MIH-102 router and I set the its virtural servers setting to redirect both TCP and UCP protocol ports 7023 & 7024 to the redirected IP address.( Actually , it limits what can be set. ) Also I set the DMZ Host to the same computer.
I still cannot open a TCP/IP connection

I completely reloaded CMBO and it worked. I suspect one of the added code files was corrupted.
Thanks for the help.

The Router assigned IP to the computer you'll be playing CM on.

Would that be the Public IP address, the one the router sees on the cable modem, or the IP address that the computer sees, e.g. assigned on the LAN by the DHCP from the Router?

I just upgraded from phone modem to cable modem and I am connecting to the internet using an home network via a router with NAT. Everything seems to be workng just fine except I cannot use CMBO TCP mode. I cannot connect to an opponent's IP and I cannot set it up to be the originator.
I can ping him easily.
Suggestions please.
Addendum:
I am trying this over a wireless connection also using Apple's Airport.

I am having a real tough time trying to play by mail with Mac buddy (I have the PC). He can send me a game (using Eudora unencrypted msg), but I can't send him a file he can load an use (I use Communicator).
Any tips out there? We've tried various zip formats to no avail....

On the Mac side, I have Eudora set to use uuencode, but I don't think this makes a difference for a text file. I have been playing Mac V PC without any problem. How are you attaching the files to be sent?

Thanks guys. Posting to a newsnet Mac programming site is probably a good idea, although I'm not sure exactly how to do so.
Any suggestions?

Try groups.google.com and go to the comp.sys.mac section such as comp.sys.mac.programmer
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&group=comp.sys.mac
This will give you a list of sections.
You will have to register to post.

Any Mac gurus out there who can answer this?

It looks like we don't know.(I believe it is no, but I am not certain.) Have you tried posting to a newsnet Mac programming site? I am sure someone on those sites would know.

Is there any way I can play CM over Ethernet on a Mac?
Thanks, Panther G

Well the short answer is yes. I have not tried it over a LAN, but it should work using TCP/IP. It is not set up for AppleTalk and I doubt that BTS has any plans to implement AppleTalk or other methods.
The following will need correction from someone who has actually done this, but you should be able to set an IP address in TCP control panel. If you are already on a network, there is a method of seeing what IP number you have in CM. Then using the TCP multiplayer option you should be good to go.

Maybe there is a future for CM in my world!!
Before you buy more RAM, get a guarantee that it will work with Apple's ROM upgrades. There has been a set of horror stories of some RAMs not working because of timing tolerance issue once you do an upgrade.
Also there are INITS or extension conflicts. On an original iMac, using Conflict Catcher, there is one boot configuration that CMBO just won't run and another, named Combat Mission(guess why), that works fine. Sorry, I don't know which extension(s) are the problem here. I just ran CC until it worked.

OK, so Mac OS X is now released. Does CMBO work under Classic or does one need to boot v9.1?

According to the series "History of the Gun" on the History Channel, the US M-60 is partially based on the MG42. I am probably using the incorrect terms, but the MG42 loading and firing mechanism "inspired" the M-60 while British designs were use for the barrel.

While you are at it, could you let us know if the Mac version will be Carbon or Cocca? Just curious.

How does one create a scenario where there are already destroyed vehicles? The wreakage of earlier action.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the bit about the Germans bringing out their best sniper to hunt him down is pretty much BS too. I think the Germans had a bit more to worry about than one sniper in the general context of the battle.
Actually that part and that he lost are accurate. Not much else is. The History Channel had an episode about this where they interviewed the participants. Hitler did stupid things like this, and concentrating troops at Stalingrad while leaving the flanks weak.

I found the issue with I had with CM; it turns out to be related to the Energy Saver control panel. Without the control panel enabled, the Mac would go into "sleep" mode; with it enabled, i was able to turn off hard drive sleeping etc. No more lockups experienced; on a related note, the cache disabling did not work.
It may be that disabling the backside cache will work only on systems that are upgraded with ram-cache that is in-line.
