>>>Below is a pic of my first CM Mod.
A beautiful rendition, RKSoldat! I just now pulled it down and am very much looking forward to seeing it at work in a scenario.
My thanks for the effort!

Joshik,
By all means finish and make availlable those CMBO mods, especially the Panther (G) that's by far the most beautifully painted Panther I've seen to date!
Great work, and my compliments to you and all the modders whose work has gone so far in making CMBO a visual delight far surpassing any hopes or expectations that BTS envisioned. <S>

Hi Grisha,
Thanks, sir. I'm looking forward to reading it!

>>>If it's not I agree that the view should be >>>nearer the target/focus, as it was in CMBO.
No, it's the viewpoint alright. It's probably somewhere around a 5-10 degree change in depression, but man it's really fouling up the view. What I don't understand at all is why when BTS originally changed this angle in the first iteration of the game, and when it was brought to their attention it was "fixed". Now, for some reason, the porked view has been reimplemented,
detracting from both the enjoyment and the usefulness of the original.

>>Tab+1 doesn't bother me although I can't say I >>am particularly thrilled by it.
Michael,
That's supposed to be the whole point to the
Tab/1 view. It's basically just (or was...sigh) eye candy in which one could excitedly watch the situation from the "foxhole" or "tank commander's"
perspective.
BTS's tinkering with it serves no purpose whatsoever and the result is simply a lousy view which is not adjustable to an acceptable level using the camera angle adjustments.
>> Views 3 and 4 are angled down too much
This is a direct result of the above. However, as you seem not to care about the Tab/1 angling/positioning and can "live with it", I suppose you'll have manage to "live" with the
"3" and "4" views as well.
Me, I've decided to let it collect dust for awhile until the issue is either addressed or fixed by BTS.

Oddball

>>>p.s. Jesus Odd, I registered here before >>>you????
I had to make a new account at one point, so if I've got a "stinky" number, therein lies the reason.
This new Tab/1 view is so lousy I'm not even playin' the damn thing at this point. ISYN, it's taken away a HUGE part of the fun and immersion.
As was stated previously by one fellow:
"They fixed it and fixed it, until it was broke."
What really irks me is that I've yet to see a single post from any of the BTS reps in here regarding this change. I'd certainly like to know, if given the fact that the majority or respondents to the initial post concur with my assessment that the new Tab/1 view is porked if they intend to make a very minor tweak and revert it to what it was in "CM1".
In the interim, I'm hereby admitting to "yawning" everytime I think I might want to fire it up. Thankfully, I've got Aces High to keep me occupied until I know one way or another whether or not this is gonna be tinkered with by BTS. If not, I think I'm gonna just let it collect cobwebs and spend my time with "CM1".

Lewallen,
My sincere thanks for, making up the grid overlay, as well as to GJK for hosting 'em.
They sure make discerning elevation changes a lot
easier on these tired, old eyes.

Yeah Dogtoes. While it may seem a trivial matter, it's made a tremendous difference in how much I'm enjoying this in comparison to CM1.

I agree. Bring back the old view! (As if they don't have bigger fish to fry.)
That's it...back to your conversation.

Okay, the proof's in the pudding. Now bear with me on this as I've never tried uploading any pictures to the forum before:
Above (I hope) is a shot of a PzVG(late) taken from the ORIGINAL "Combat Mission" or "CM1" using the Tab/1 view. Note that the barrel of the main gun is showing (perhaps half the length and that
one has a good view of the horizon relative to the local terrain.
Now here (again, I -hope-) is a shot from "CM2"
or "CM:BB" using the same tank model and "Tab/1" view. Note that the camera angle has changed as well as the -position- of the "camera".
There is less of the horizon showing, the barrel of the gun is no longer visible and the
result is a degradation of the player's ability to view the terrain as well as he was in "CM1" and a less than impressive viewpoint as far as watching the main gun fire off towards the enemy.
This has GOT to be fixed. It's an issue that I brought up in the first incarnation of the game when it was changed and BTS concurred and subsequently "fixed" it. While this may seem at first to some as petty, it is not.
BTS give us back the original view and the magic
it brought.

While this may seem at first read to be a rather piddling complaint, it has made a very big difference in the "immersion" factor one feels as you watch your tank or truppen bound about from that perspective.
This is something that was changed in the original (denied at first by one of the BTS
folks), but then later checked and found to have been the case, whereupon the "good" F1 view was reinstated.
The current view from the TC commander's view; ie: Tab+1 has changed ever so slightly in CM2, and for the worse.
I'm not sure if the view has been pulled back some and/or angled down ever so slightly, but
IMHO it needs a "tweaking" to put it back to the
"CM1" standard.
Be advised this is NOT a problem with my utilization of the new camera interface, so
keep overzealous/jingoistic lambastings to a minimum. I am and remain a fanatical lover of Battlefront and Combat Mission.

Soddball, was there a point to your reply or were you just trying to extend the post count?

do a shift-z or two and it should look like normal (when locked to view a tank you can see the back of the crewman's head, unlike the default)[/qb]Originally posted by russellmz: -

>>How bout an occasional "update" (maybe just a few a week) on CM2.
Great idea, Jack. I'm up for -anything-
at all that's new over there. I used to look at it as one would a newspaper. ie: grab it everyday and sweep over it.
I know for a fact it was a MAJOR contributor to Combat Mission itself, since
as we're all aware the Big Time site's
info is well...to be honest...tired.
The forum is great, though it's become
quite unweildy due to the tremendous
success of CM, but beyond that, there's
really nothing here that's new and
intrguing.

CMHQ _REMAINS_ at the top of my

great success that the game has

direct result of your tireless
efforts and enthusiasm.
My sincere compliments on a
job WELL DONE and my thanks for

Guys,
I just gotta get this off my chest.
Up until the past two or three months,
my daily routine ALWAYS included
hitting both the CMHQ site and
the BTS CM forum. Maybe I don't
"have a life", but each day I'd fire
up my browser enthusiastically to
catch up on the latest news and
postings.
Sadly, hitting the Combat Mission
HQ site has become...well...sad.
Now before anyone jumps on me
for saying this, I can honestly say
that the CMHQ site was the ONLY
URL I ever hit on a daily basis in
my ten years of ridin' the waves of
'the net'. As well, I know Mad Matt
is now a member of the CM team and
has other responsibilities.
But I look at it as the "sister
site" to the BTS site.
In the "old days" one could shoot
over to CMHQ, get the latest "news"
on the game or on graphics mods,
sound mods, etc, and then hop
anxiously over to the BTS site to
see the fan base's input on anything
new that was posted in there.
These days...well...you know...
My humble opinion is that CMHQ is
and can remain an IMPORTANT asset to
BTS insofar as it maintains a "freshness"
to itself.
It's a treasure that shouldn't be
allowed to stagnate.
Okay, I'm off the soap box and back
into my usual "lurk" mode.

Oddball <CAF>

>> Does this mean that Oddball gets all the >>leaf-blowers, air-compressors, and power->>washers?
Muhahahahah!!
... I am afraid comrade that unless
they have wheels attached that your
foot-truppen will have to lug them
about. My panzer crews are MUCH too
busy honing their skills and looting
the locals of their vino to assume
further responsibilities.
Now, would you please be so kind
as to pass me the Grey Poupon?
Yours In Axis Domination,
Oddball

I didnt get from our pathetic loser Axis opponents, is who is the Player A, and Player B. But I am making an arbitrary decision that Player A will be Oddball.
My Dear Vermin,
My Supreme Commander, in a most
magnanimous gesture has already
decided that I command Der Fuehrer's
panzers in this, our first glorious
foray into the Norman countryside.
And let me tell you Oddballs, Chrisl, you are going to be on you like white on rice. Prepare to die.
...Oddball sighs heavily and ponders
his field ration of 1/2 scoop of
beef fried rice , brown and heavily
watered,and struggles to
find the philosophical significance
of this taunt. <ggggg>

Start asap, and put the game on hold on wednesday 2nd-until the following Monday
Hi Foobar,
I'll go with "B". This'll give
us a chance to at least see the
units we've got and to have a gander
at the map and formulate our plans
prior to actually beginning.
As well, it gives you the opportunity
to participate fully. Given the fact
you fellows have not yet had the opportunity
to see cooperative play yet, I'd hate
to see this first glimpse tarnished
by the inability of anyone to participate
fully.

[QB]A cooperative mode would be great,
Guys,
It already IS possible to play CM in a cooperative mode, using a combination of
the "Alt-S" command prior to hitting the
"Go" button and "cc"-ing turns to all
players involved.
If players "A" and "B" are both playing
against player "C"...
"A" selects the setup phase, and sends it
to "B". "B" then places his half of the
units during the deployment phase, and
DOES NOT hit the "Go" button; rather, he
selects "Alt-S" and sends the still incomplete setup phase file to his partner,
"B".
"B" then inputs his deployment orders
and hits "Go", sending the file to their
opponent, "A".
After "A" has done his stuff, he sends
the file to BOTH his opponents and the process continues throughout.
As long as the first guy on the
cooperative team always uses the "Alt-S"
option, everyone gets to input their
orders, AND watch the resultant movie.
This works, I've done it.
Please..don't thank me.

The OLD "Tab/1" perspective. The new "commander's view" no matter HOW much tinkering and/or angling one does cannot replicate it.
Having spent several hundred hours playing CMBO,
I find myself STILL struggling to achieve the level of excitement with CMBB that I did with its predecessor regardless of the myriad of enhancements made to the game.
