  1. Come on guys!

Did you see what was posted on the SSI CC4 board? Give me a break, and thank Fionn and Madmatt for popping in and calming the whole mess down.

I play CC mods a lot, and am a supporter of CM too. Can't you just let people do what they want, and stop starting childish fight on other forums.

I think that if Killmore took so much flack on the Ryan Ross' TGN forum, it is because of that "child" who posted abusive comments on the SSI/CCIV board (calling a CC poster a dickhead).

That does not help CM at all, and it is a true shame. Grew up!

    Karl

  2. Hi everybody,

I got that link from the CC SSI Forum. It was originally posted by DocH. "Every month, the Marine Corps Gazette has a regular feature called "Tactical Decision Game". While mostly designed as a training aid for USMC officers and NCO's, the games often are useful for scenario/map ideas for wargames."

Take a look at it, it is really interesting. May be you will be able to find a solution to that very credible scenario. I thought you guys may like it.

    Enjoy!

  3. Rich,

I had the same problem that you do have now.

I beleive the beta demo has a problem with the AMD K6 2 processor (I have one too on my desktop.

A nice guy named "Hundminen" or something like that (real name being Chris)

e-mail me a file to run under DOS everytime you start your computer and want to play the demo. It solved my problem, and since no more freezes while playing the demo.

I am sorry but I can not e-mail you the file right now since I am in Europe in a business trip, and it is on my desktop at home.

So, run a search about Beta demo problems posted by BTS when they released the demo. You will find Chris' post, and his e-mail address. Drop him a line.

I hope you will be able to solve that very frustrating problem, and finnaly fully enjoy CM.

    Good luck,

    Karl

  4. I was wondering if technically speaking, and according to Nazi racial doctrines all Western Europeans (such as Dutchs, Scandinavians, Frenchs...) were considered as "aryans"?

I recall reading a book about " La Divison Charlemagne" made out of French anti-communist volonteers. All recruits were politically taught that despite fighting against communism, they were also part of the master race, and as such, guardians of it.

Nevertheless, I think that the hatred of communism seems to have been the main vector in leading these men to betray their country and wear the uniform of the ennemy.

    Interesting thread.

  5. Well,

I have to admit that I admire the guys from RtM for being determined in making their project a reality. Determination is sometimes able to make a difference. Like Bullethead, I will certainly get the game, not simply to support the RtM team, but also to get a game that dares to do something that no mass-market oriented products will ever do; being different, true, and breaking the rules.

Thank you all for the feedback, that was indeed very informative.

    Qui vivra, vera!

    Ciao,

    Karl

  6. First thanks for your feed back.

    howardb,

Go to the www.wargamer.com, they do have a RTM HQ, which was updated a couple of weeks ago.

    Compassion,

As you put it, this game seems to be one of a kind. But as Fionn pointed out, it is almost too good to be true. The whole Eastern Front would be covered, with micro & macro managment of all fighting forces, including Romanians, Italians, Finns, and Hungarians. Quite something!

    Fionn,

Could you please elaborate on why you think that the game may be "bug-ridden and hugely problematic." Would it be due to the game engine itself, or rather its design? Or do you think that the game is too ambitious to be achieved? Also, I have seen it listed for sale online by 01/03/00. I believe it was at gamesdomain, but not 100% positive. I assume it must be some marketing hype on the part of the online store.

    Thanks,

    Karl

  7. This post being off topic, I apologize in advance. Along with CM, I have been following another game development; Road to Moscow, published by Interactive Magic. I think that this forum is the place to ask "Grognards" and others about their take on this game, taking into account both the quality and maturity of people posting here.

I purchase 2 or 3 games a year in average (read as; only 2 or 3 a year are worth buying IMHO), all WWII related. Having already preordered CM, I am trying to gather some info & advices on RTM, before even considering acquiring it. Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thank you for your time,

    Karl

  8. I would second Iguana on this one:

    * 101st Airborne is a game worth buying in my opinion. I read an excellent review of it by Fionn, and for sure does not regret buying that game. I just wish there would be more online players for it outhere (Hint).

    * West Front is all right, with the patch.

The campains are particularly fun playing.

    * I had fun playing East Front, but I have to admit that the AI is very weak IMHO. Both East and West front are turned based games.

    * CC2 is great playing. But I think Spy Eye knows that already smile.gif

    * And most importantly, CM got me all exited. I just can't wait to play it. The demo has been freezing on my system, but I hope the full version of the game will be all right. I still managed to play one full scenario, and just loved it. Otherwise, I may have to buy a new machine, just for CM smile.gif I am far from being an expert about wargames, but CM really seems to be an amazing WWII game.

    Thank you for reading,

    Karl

  9. SS_PanzerLeader.

I think that when one uses a spread sheet in a foreign language, the spell check options are only avaible for the language curently used. In the case of Spy_Eye,it must be French. His e-mail address was only a click of a button away, in the top left corner of his post.

I totally disagree with you when you state that when somebody does not master English, s/he should not even bother posting. I do not know you, and in any case am I judging you. But, experiences in living in many different countries taught me that it is alway worth trying to get a point accross. One is free to do so, and if the outcome is messy, then most likely people will not respond to it. That is that simple.

    Howardb,

You are right about the fact that adding historical docs and materials to a historical wargame is a plus. This certainly was the case with CC2. I personaly noticed that difference with CC3 right away when I purchased the game. No historical info provided, except a couple of short videos.

I just do not think that the game manufacturer has a "responsability" to do so.

It just seems common sense to do it, and it certainly adds some value to the game.

    Fionn,

I could not agree more with you. Attitudes are much more important than linguistic skills. That is what I love about the internet, boundaries are no more. People fell free to communicate, and language barriers should certainly not prevent anyone to express him/herself.

I have to admit that I did not find Spy_Eye's behavior "poor" in his posts. he clearly was off when he expressed his take about CC's tank pathfinding flaws. I even don't think that this CC's problem can be called anything else than a major flaw in the game.

As Moon mentionned, Spy_Eye took a lot of heat and critisisms in response to his posts.

He stayed calm and did not get nasty. That had to be underlined. Nevertheless, I know what you are referring to when talking about "abusive posters'. I agree with you, and share the same feeling on that matter.

    Thank you,

    Karl

PS; Fionn, do not worry, hyphenations in English are also for me a source of trouble smile.gif

  10. Oh Boy!

We are talking about war games, aren’t we? smile.gif

    a) I personaly feel that the people who should be annoyed the most by Atomics’ claim of realism should be guys like Charles and Steve. They are trying very hard to

put together a war game in which realism is one of the best features. They should be the ones really ticked off by fasle advertising of a competitive product. The rest of us,potential customers can make a “free” choice (but not always informed) when it comes to whether or not buy a game.

    B) Why am I posting on this particular thread? May be because I am a CC2 & CC3 player. CC2 introduced me to WWII games, which are the only games I play.

I do enjoy CC3 with RR 1005, and what is wrong with that? I play it against good friends of mine, having the same taste when it comes to wargames. We use custom

operations, well balanced (with mainly inft, and few light armors, using mainly new maps), over a period of 6 or 7 days.

This is challenging, and we are having fun.

So, I qualify as a “Joe whateverisnameis”. This is fine, and certainly does not prevent me from learning more about WWII, and more importantly appreciate a fine game

like CM. One should not even try to compare the two games. This is a pointless exercise.

    c) Clearly SS_PanzerLeader and Spy_Eye disagree. They both have relevant points concerning the topic, but do not listen to one another.

I have to say that R Cunningham is the one who according to me did narrow the best the pros & cons of CC games. At least his argumentation made sense to me. Thanks also

to him for the website regarding the whole Sajer’s book controversy. It was educational to read.

    d) Just as a side note, I think that SS_PanzerLeader should comment Spy_Eye’s poor English speeling by e-mail, and

not on a public forum. This is not a personal attack against SS_PanzerLeader at all. No offense intended, but may be that if

you were trying to post a message in French and German, you would realize that for some people it requires time to post in a foreign language, and time is not always expendable. I just can relate to a certain extent to

that since English is not my native language.

    e) Tanks to BTS, Fionn, Moon, and all the others for participating in this great forum. I have very little time to spend on the net for leasure., but this is the only forum I regularly visit.People are mature, answers are provided, and most importantly, it is fun and instructional to read.

Well, now I can silently go back behind my screen, and read other people’s

    posts.

    Thank you for your time,

    Karl

    Aka “Joe whateverisnameis” 

  11. Hundminen,

You are not the only one having that problem with freezes. Indeed, I am also unable to play more than 2 or 3 turns without having the Beta demo freezing on me in the same conditions that you described in your post.

I need to shut down the computer and start it again.

All the drivers have been updated,

and for 3 weeks, I have tried EVERYTHING to get it to work. It is just so frustrating!

Anyway, I sincerely hope that the final version of CM will work on my machine, since I preordered it a long time ago smile.gif

For the record for Steve & Charles, here is my system:

    AMD K6 200MHZ

    48MB memory

    2.1 GB hard drive

    STB Velocity 128 3D (8MB)graphic card

    ES 1868 audio drive

    window 95

    DirectX 6

audio & graphic card drivers updated

    Thank you for your time,

    Karl

  12. First of all, thanks for the demo.

I experienced two problems with the demo

    so far:

    1) While playing the "Last defense" scenario

as German, the screen froze 4 times so far. It always happened during plotting phases.

I had to press alt+ctl+dlt to get out. I will be waiting for your advise/comments before getting back to the scenario (I saved it). So please, be quick as usual smile.gif

    2) The screen also freezes 3 times when I pressed the Escape button.

    System used:

    AMD-K6 MMX

    48 MB

    3 D Wavetable stereo sound

    Velocity 128 8MB

    Advanced 3D Multimedia Accelerator

I know you are very busy now.

    Thank you for your time.

    Karl

  13. Fionn, Charles Martel was the "mayor of Austrassa and Neustria" (714 to 741). Mayor, meaning ruler. Austrassa is roughly the geographical location of Benelux low-countries today, and Neustria refers to the Northern Part of today France. Martel was from the Caroligian dynasty, but it is rather Charlemagne who consolidated the territories, and became the King of Franks, by becoming emperor in 811.

Martel did stop the Maures' invasion in Poitiers (South of tours) in 732. Geographicaly you were not that far when you said Tours smile.gifIf he had not stopped the Islamist invasion, Notre Dame could have been a Mosque. And that could have been interesting!

Regarding your comments about Islam and how it is perceived by most Westerners, I could not agree more with you. Islam is like any religion, it has its hard-liners, and its moderates. But, keep in mind that Western Europeans are more in daily contact with Muslims than North Americans. They can see the many political and religious faces of islam. I am French and lives in the U.S, and I can tell you from my own experience that the U.S media is very bais in its coverage of the Middle East situation. As you pointed out, they seem to forget the early period of Palestine/Israel conflict, as for instance that the Irgoon (spe?)was an jewish terrorist organisation even in today standards. They use blind violence to achieve their means, and got what they wanted: an almost ethnically pure Jewish state. Do the U.S media ever run a documentary about the slaughter of Sabra and Shatila Palestinian camps? No. Do they mention in which horrific conditions the Palestinian refugees live in the Gaza strip or annexed/occupied territories? No. So, the Palestinians got more radical, and used and still use today terrorism as a political mean to acheive a bit of autonomy.

I am in no way a "defender/advocat" of the Palestinian or Israeli cause. But, as mentionned earlier in the thread in a discussion about Communism, the Palestinians are also fighting from their land and their freedom. Since Israel won the 1967 war, it occupies and promotes new settlements in all former Palestinian territories. What does the world expect from the Palestinians, to stand by and get wiped out, like the Native Americans. They have been cornered, and also used by some other fellow islamist countries.

They certainly have chosen the wrong path in embrassing the strategy of global terrorism.

This region of the world is so rich, so full of hate and strategical allainces, that we surely will not see the end of it soon.

    Well, signing off!

    Karl

  14. I was just wondering which kind of French troops will be in CM, and in which scenarios/campaigns. Moon mentionned something about the "free French" units in another post. I presume that French colonial troops will be included (Algerians & Marocans...), as well as Leclerc's 2nd DB. Will the "Vichy French" units also be part of CM (despite the fact that they were mostly engaged in fighting French resistance and partisans, not allied troops)?

    Thanks for your time.
