BTW, I dreamt last night that I was a tropical plant named 'The Trochu'. Strange, isn't it?

Are those CM mods too? Where did you get them from?

    CombatGeneral,

I enjoy playing the Desert mod for CM time to time. Yet, I warn you that planning an attack in open desertic ground can hurt your ego big time!

Even the AI (British side) virtually stopped me cold during a carefully planned probed attack.

AT guns and arty barrages in particular are killers when they catch your armor column in full deploy.

    Clubfoot,

Thanks for your mod, I do enjoy it.

    Much appreciated.

  3. Hello,

I am about to upgrade my 16MB video card for a 32MB one. I just read in another thread Schrullenhaft's comments about the ATI Radeon not supporting CM fog-tables under directX. Having the fog effect in CM is the main reason why I decided to ugrade my current video card.

So, in n a nutshell, if you could indicate me a video card brand, and or model (32MB) that DOES support fog for sure , I would be very appreciative.

    Thank you for your time,

    Karl

  4. Sgt Eagle,

Your mod sounds interesting. Good luck with it, and please let us know when it is available. Have a nice weekend.

    Maximus,

I second M. Hofbauer on this one. Maximus, my poor friend, you are such a jerk! (I believe that it is what they call people like you in your country, isn't it?). The more I read your posts on this board and others, the more I think that you need to:

    a) get a life

    B) get out of your parent basement and see the light.

    c) get also a job in the mean time, and stop living off society.

    Have a great life now.

  5. Steve,

Am I German? Yes and no, or rather 1/2 German 1/2 French, born in Brittany, France. Currently living in Minneapolis USA.

I guess that as my post showed it, my temper is more French than German in some ways.

Anyway, my question to Ksak still stands as stated.

    Have a good week Steve.

    Xavier,

Thank you for your great site and your support to this amazing game. Je suis un visiteur discret mais quotidien de ton site. Encore un fois merci a toi et a Magnus.

    Ciao,

    Karl

  6. Ksak,

You are a funny man, but what heroic act have you done in your puny life to defend your country and love ones lately?

May be cracking half-witted jokes anonymously on an internet board is your sense of courage.

BTW, since we are in heavy loaded stereotypes land, do not forget to choose only one candidate when you vote, otherwise you know that it will not count.

Have a great life under the sun of "the mouth of the rat".

  7. I do not post very often on this board, but today will be the exception. I certainly have a thick skin but too much is too much.

I just read Raze's thread and this question came to mind: Why is this ok on this board to provoke or insult some nationalities, but yet perfectly inappropriate to do the same for others? Openly bashing Italians, French or even Arabs is ok, but citizens of the US, Israelis, etc... is a big "can't do that."

I have been leaving in few foreign countries and always respected their customs and national prides, not because of PCness but by common sense. For crying out loud even Madmatt one time publicly stated his disgust of the French prior to his trip to Germany.

What is the purpose of doing it; to have the French going to their forum, the Italians to their own and such, so that English speaking fellows can stay together and congratulate one another. Quite a plan!

    You people sometimes baffle me!

    Have a great life,

    Karl

PS: Madmatt, I do have a lot of respect for you and your work, and do not want to pick a fight with you. I just want to keep the record straight.

  8. Wayne,

If you are looking for a great game in the essence of Hasbro's Squad Leader, get 101st AB in Normandy. That is IMO, along with CM, one of the few great WWII simulations.

Many "old" titles out there have already delivered what you are looking for in the present/future when it comes to WWII wargames.

    Anyways...

    M Hofbauer,

Nice seeing you on the CM forum. Too bad that "I Got Milk" bullied you away from CC TGN's forum. I did appreciate your posts and contribution over there.

    Have a nice day.

  9. Renaud,

    to answer your question:

"I'd be interested in hearing the military enlistement oaths of other countries. Any non-US personnel here?"

From my personal experience as far as I recall, French soldiers do swear oath to protect the Republic and its people. No reference to "domestic ennemy" though, which is IMO a strange concept to include in an oath for the military. Very ambiguous indeed.

    Minnesota Joe,

Being honest with you, I have to admit that me too I asked myself the same question that you when I was send to Croatia and Bosnia a few years ago. We took a lot of abuse and humiliation overthere, and my only comment on this is that is it a shame. Soldiers are soldiers, not peace keepers or cops. But once again, French troops are used to be misused and disrespected by their politicians, so it was just business as usual for them. The only ones that did not accept any crap from above were the legionnaires, and decided to act accordingly.

My take on the UN and its US is that if there is ANY country that is able to assert a certain control over this enormous bureaucracy, it has to be the USA. And yet you guys are getting confused and angry; Your politicians control the UN by using the US military as a strong tool to emphasize their definition of the "US national interest" in the world, not the other way around. Also note that many Western Europeans are convinced that the UN is controlled by the US. Try to figure that one out!

Anyways, to be back to CM, I also live in Minnesota, more specificaly in Mendota Heights, St Paul. I have not yet played CM in a PBEM, so Minnesnowta Joe, let me know if your are interested in a PBEM. My e-mail is: Karltrochu@hotmail.com

    Sincerely yours,

    Karl

  10. Hi Dick,

First of all, thank you for the scenario and the beating and abuse that come with it while playing as Germans smile.gif

Seriously, I think that the scanario is ok, I was just not ready for it I guess. I did enjoy playing it, especially when I realized that only my infantry was able to accomplish anything, since my Panzers kept getting nailed by the Jabos. Those 12 fighters bombers are like the angels of death.

BTW, I also managed a minor victory against the AI, but against a human opponenet I would have been crushed without any doubt.

As I asked before, did you manage to keep any Panzers alive at all?

    Ciao,

    Karl

  11. Good morning all,

I am about to be done playing the "Jabos!" scenario as German (to be on the recieving end of the air strikes). I gave the AI +25% to get a fair fight; and a bloody "fair fight" I had.

    Spoiler:

Does anyone now the kind and number of Allied air support that was implemented in the scenario?

Those darn planes decimated my first line of defense by taking out all my armors (supported by AAA armored units), including Mark IV and Tiger I. The Inft guns were also wiped out with their supporting inftantry.

The woods (second line of defense)were pounded by air strikes decimating my infantry that was laying in ambush there. a terrifying spectacle!

My first armor column got nailed from the sky as soon as I pressed the GO button. Then I really tried to mount a counter attack with reinforcment, mainly composed of 2 Stugs III, 2 Tigers I, 1 Puma, and 4 HTs. Needless to say, it failed. I tried to keep a fair distance between them (not easy while navigating between wooded areas), but only my Stugs lived long enough to engage the ennemy. The 2 Tigers got brewed up from the sky by heavy bombs (rockets?) leaving no crewmen surviving the ordeal. Then, I clearly realized that I had underestimated the bloody Jabos'destructive power.

I now gave up on the armored counter attack, and rather am attempting a large scale infantry flanking from the East flank. So far, they managed to nail and block an Allied armored column on the single road leading to my positions, using Faust and Flame thrower.

The AI did also suffered heavy armored casualties, partly thanks to the Jabos that kept carpet bombing on the edge of my defensive positions, destroying a couple of AI tanks and infantry support that were attempting a push. I just can't believe the destructive power of those planes. I have more than 7 turns left, and still have hope on regaining the edge by holding to one vl, despite the constant strafing and bombing.

When will those evil flying machines finnaly get away for good?

Any suggestions, feedback? I guessed I got carried away with a post way longer than I first anticipated.

Anyway, thank you for reading, and putting up with my poor English. Long live CM!

    Sincerely,

    Karl

  12. Steve,

    Thanks the info.

I am currently using the same card than you do, but on a PC not a Mac. The fog does not work at all with ATI Rage 128 16MB (PC).

    Schrullenhaft,

Thanks, I took good note of your advices and recommendations.

I think that I will upgrade my video card very soon. I will most likely go with a Creative Blaster TNT2 Ultra.

    Ciao,

    Karl

  13. Hi everybody,

I did a search regarding the fog issue, but did not find anything about the ATI Rage 128 fury video card specific to the fog issue.

So, voila: is anybody able to get Fog working using that particular video card.

I have upgraded to the lattest driver and still no fog.

I do get the night (or at least I think), building transparency, weather and smoke effects though.

    Specs: ATI rage 128 fury

    600Mhz Pentium

    128 MB

    DirectX 7.a

    Thanks for your time,

    Sincerely,

    Karl

  14. MantaRay and Schrullenhaft,

You were correct, my old mother board does not support AMD K6 2 (400Mhz), so no need to even try to set the jumpers.

I have an M5ATC Biostar mother board.

Well, thanks a lot for your help. I truly appreciate it. I think that CM deserves another upgrade, so tomorrow I will be heading to the store to buy a new mother board (most likely an ASUS P5S-VM (SIS chipset).

    Thanks again,

    Sincerely,

    Karl

  15. Thanks for the quick reply Danno.

I am right now checking the MB manufacturer's website.

Could you please elaborate more on the technical aspect of setting all jumpers on my MB to support that chip.

How do I go about setting all jumpers on my MB?

Sorry if I appear as a "PC-ignorant", but we all have to start somewhere smile.gif

    Thanks,

    Karl

  16. Hi everybody,

Well, my post is not directly linked to any CM problems, but I have a question regarding my processor. Since some of you here have "above my level" computer knowledge <read as I have none smile.gif>, you may be able to help me out.

Here it is: My machine came with an AMD K6 200Mhz processor, and for CM I decided to upgrade it to a AMD K6 450Mhz 3D Now.

Recently I checked with DirectX 7.0a my processor, and how surprised and upset was I to read that my processor was still a 200Mhz one frown.gif

As a side note, I also upgraded my hard drive from a 2Gb to a 8.0 Gb while upgrading my processor. So, I can't see how W98 could fail in recognizing my new processor speed.

    Any help/comments is appreciated.

    Sincerely yours,

    Karl
