  1. Ok, well I'm much better off now. Apparently when I switched it to 2x awhile back I didn't change the anti-aliasing to "Override any application setting". Doing this made the difference and has now gotten rid of the cascading graphics problem. I can see the sky as well.

Overall, my performance is playable, I can zoom the camera around pretty fast. But when I have an infantry unit selected is when the performance gets choppy. When I have vehicles selected it's fine.

Stikkypixie, thanks for the reminder about the 2x anti-aliasing trick.

Same here. It now works for me on 182.50 drivers, Vista32. Had to reduce to 1024x768 to get playable framerates, but I can at least play now.

  2. We have always said that we will be turning our attention back to WWII very soon, and when we do, and you see what we can do with the CMx2 engine in that setting, I think you will be pleased that you have stayed with us all this time.

    Madmatt

Be careful, "very soon" is a very relative term... and some of us are extremly ready to get back to WWII.

  3. Vista32 Business

    2GB RAM

    8800GTS driver v. 162.22

    1920x1200 resolution

    Core 2 6700 @ 2.66 GHz

nVidia Control panel options are at the DEFAULT

    OPTIONS:

    Vert sync OFF

    3D Model Quality: Best

    3D Texture Quality: Best

    Anti Alias: On

    High Priority: ON

    Using FRAPS:

    Battle: Al Hawl

On start of battle I scroll around and get 8-20FPS with some lag at times. Mouse is somewhat slow and mushy. Lowering resolution to 1024x768 has little impact on FPS.

*Note that shadows are OFF because they make infantry in certain terrain invisible and are non-existent anyway. (As of 1.02 & 162.22, I updated both at the same time)

metalbrew - you only used the BTR's! Was this on your first play of the scenario? I used my infantry to flush out the enemy, but took a fair amout of casualties in the process.

I agree it was an excellent scenario.

For a gamer who has only been exposed to the likes of CivIV as a wargame, I can see that CMSF would not be that fun.

I don't agree with the very low Gamespot score either, but why immediately assume the reviewer has only played non-Wargames?

Not sure what "category" of wargames you are playing, but here's a quick check of some other Gamespot reviews:

8.4 Matrix Games: Battles in Normandy

    7.0 ArmA

    9.1 CM:BB

    8.4 CM:AK

8.4 Gary Grigsby's: World at War

    7.8 ToW

    9.1 Close Combat

    7.2 Strategic Command

    4.5 CM:SF

edit: after waiting YEARS for computer 3rd Reich, I thought it was a huge failure (IMO). Nice job on getting $80 for it.

    Steve,

don´t know if this helps, but I have zero problems with CMx1 AK/BB/BO on my machine. Also not a single problem with other OpenGL games.

CM:SF however is running...uhm...imperfect to say the least.

    Specs are:

    Vista Ultimate 32 bit

    Core2Duo@3Ghz

    4 GB DDR2-800

    NVIDIA 8800 GTS 640MB

    NVIDIA 162.22 Forceware

Hope you guys can patch this up to a workable state.

    cheers </font>

  7. Decent overall review. It's obvious it's based on more than a short playthrough and he really gets it. However, I don't agree with the low rating, but this comment was dead on in my opinion:

"Artificial intelligence is largely missing in action, scenarios feel gimmicky and prearranged, and just about everything seems rough and unfinished."

I agree, at least he stressed the potential of the game.

Well said. As it stands now each position is defended to the death. Feels more like fighting WWII Japanese dug-in caves, than a fluid tactical battlefield. Maybe there's more going on behind the scenes (like vanishing guys) that make this not true, but it sure feels that way.

At it's core, and at it's best, a couple of weapons systems would hurl ordnance down-range at each other, tank vs tank, or whatever. But, that's all it was. And there were sets of miniatures rules that had provided gamers with the same experience for decades before its inception.

This forum is so unique. I've seen it all. Trash someone that trashes CMx2 by trashing CMx1.

Using the previous version, 158.45. I'm not using the affinity trick or changing the process priority either. I am running the game as adminstrator though.

edit: I noticed the OP said it crashed after the orders phase. I'm playing RT, so maybe that's the difference.

You can work-around the TacAI if you pay close attention and micro-manage the battlefield. However, you might want to the think of the "Static Insurgent Statues" as Japenese in caves during WWII. You have to blast them out to the last man. Very bloody.
  12. From my point of view, the TacAI is "smart" enough to fight back from static positions. It will shoot and hurt you if you don't use good tactics. I've been defeated more than once, and had a ton of fun. However, each battle I've played has been more like fighting the Japanese dug into caves. Each defensive position is static and defended to the last man. Pound with artillery, supressing fire, assault position and kill everyone inside. I have not experienced the feeling of "pushing" the enemy back, just destroying completely.

Again, the game is fun and I recommend it, but I feel the TacAI could use some help.
