  1. von Lucke,

Don't believe everything you read in Black Hawk... it may read well, but a lot of the book is hype. I was there with the 10.ID and, altough we were outside of Moga-city, we would run operations into it. It really was not a city in the sense that we think of cities and, as such, MOUT really didn't apply there.

Also, those Rangers were travelling light (like we all did there) without much more than rifles and SAW's. Speed really was their only advantage - and I think they leveraged that pretty well.

I was in the Bn TOC the night the ambush took place... radio was cracking that night for sure. We woke the Bn, put everybody on the line, and got sniped at the rest of the night. We were about 30 klicks outside of Moga and that's a long drive in Humvee's at night through indian country.

  2. Juju,

You may be interested in seeing what we are doing with the Combat Mission Meta Campaign (CMMC) hosted on the CMHQ website. All of the supply, intel and artillery rules you are going to need to model your operation are being written for CMMC. These rules will be posted for players on the website and more indepth rules will be available to GM's. Stay tuned to CMHQ - a lot of this will be posted in the near future.

  3. Rune,

As a buff of historical accuracy, I think The Gamers puts out unmatched OoB's, especially their stuff on the Ostfront (primarily their OCS-line of games).

Their "Enemy at the Games" is one of the best complete wargames I have even since... if you are interested in the Eastern Front, you have to own that game.

Once CM2 is out, I hope we can play a CMMC-style "Counterstroke at Kharhov, '42-'43" similar in size and scope to CMMC-1 that we have in the works right now.

  4. I am a GM working on translating several German Documents for CMMC - I am fairly good with most of my translation but I have a document that I am having trouble with.

Could a native German speaker please email me privately at jbailey@resolutecapital.com to help me? Thanks.

And, by the way, seeing this document will not break CMMC FOW, it is just an unrelated form that will serve as a template for staff work - so don't any Allied players get any ideas!

  5. I have been doing a fair amount of TO&E research for CMMC and the 20mm Flak38 is repeatedly cited as an excellent weapon platform - easy to move, accurate at high ROF, and useful against a myriad of targets.

The weapon also served in all types of terrain - woods, dug-in, urban, etc - with a fair degree of mobility. I have read accounts of the weapon serving as the cornerstone of a platoon/company defense and as tactical fire suppression on the offensive.

I was wondering how BTS has modelled the mobility of straight 20mm w/o a SP. Can the platform by moved inter-CM or is it stationary? My research seems to indicate that with a full crew, the weapon system should be mobile to a limited degree (maybe 10 meters/minute in normal terrain). Nevertheless, this is not a weapon system that should be moving on the battlefield - selecting and maintaining a good FOF for this platform is the key task.

    Comments Steve or Beta-Tester???

  6. If you are playing as a German, don't bother looking at the traditional TO&E sources, they would not help you much. Trust me, I did the OoB's and TO&E.

Some of the German battalions are going to be very interesting to see on the battlefield... Some are real rag-tag, others absolutely armed to the teeth.

FOW prevents me from saying more.
