  1. Now, let me see... I'm tooling along in my halftrack (no helpful combat units along)when it takes a 'shreck up the kazoo; I (we) bail out & I...: (complete the following) a) ...am mad as hell & I'm (we're) going to shoot those krauts with my trusty 45 or ...am scared poopless (drawers already filled) & I (we) run like hell for the nearest cover. From everything I've ever read, anybody who chooses a) ought to have their head examined or be given the silver star (posthumously, of course). The shreck team enjoys the advantage of suprise & cover & are probably as well armed as I (we) are or have accompanying or supporting combat units to help out. Be Real... Thanks for listening, Kilroy, out
  2. Pardon me, but am I missing something: what about an infantry squad 40 meters from my structure doesn't make them THE imminent threat (considering there are no others closer or there is a farther threat that could blow the structure up within the next minute)? I'm starting to get that little crinkly feeling on the back of my neck even thinking about this kind of situation as I write. Seems to me the only thing to do is to open up on the advancing US squad. I happen to think Fred was right to raise this question & you must explain to me how the program intelligence would ignore this threat in terms a simple VolksGrenadier would understand. And don't talk to me about work-arounds. Either the programmed intelligence can handle this situation - or it can't and I think we need to know the answer, plain & simple. Sorry to be blunt about it, but I ain't no grognard and all these wordy explanations leave me scratching my head. Dale
  3. You all can do what you want but you might want to consider lightening up a little & having some fun. Yes, PG is advertised as a wargame & this may upset some grognards. You are welcome to stay away & poo-poo the game but you would be missing out on some fun. I believe there is enough strategic type thinking involved & it is certainly challenging enough. If you don't think so then try the Kesselring or Guderian campaigns & see how you do. I'm really looking foreward to Combat Mission and all the detail & realism involved but when I want to relax a little I don't see anything wrong about indulging in a Beer & Pretzels type of experience. And, I guarantee one thing: what will kill an endeavor like Combat Mission is a bunch of p.o.'ed grognards who peck the thing to death instead of relaxing & accepting that full reality isn't possible in any simulation & what is important is that they are just games and are for having fun. Just my opinion. Dale
  4. kingtiger, Glad you took a second look at PG3D. I was beginning to feel like I was the only one out here who was "into" the game. I realize how unrealistic the gaming system must seem to a grognard & I think the evolution in the series must disappoint die-hard fans of the original PG but I'm addicted because it's fun. Thanks for admitting your error in judgement; it shows me a lot. Dale
  5. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder(anon)... PG/3D/Assualt is a worthy successor to the line, imltho. I'm havin' some fun with it & that's all that counts. I ain't no grognard, either, and I enjoy the diversion. The 3D terrain & animations are demanding & may slow the action down but I enjoy the effects. What's wrong with the Beer & Pretzel diversion from time to time. The gameplay is rock solid & the leader-based system/special abilities add a new dimension. They're just games & it's just my opinion. Dale
  6. Thanks for the info. I'm satisfied. I sure wouldn't want to be the one with the bazooka out in the open like that. I'd be hunkered down in a hole under lots of cover trying to keep dry, if you you know what I mean. Dale
  7. Pardon me if this has been covered before but Allied Turn 17 suggests a bazooka attack from the open at or about 100 meters. Isn't this a little unrealistic or am I missing something? 100 meters is the length of a football field & I would suspect the chances of hitting anything at that distance with an unguided rocket type weapon would be slim & none. Might as well be throwing spitballs & the team would be a nice exposed target for a vehicle's mg. I realize this isn't Private Ryan but all the reading I've done suggests best using this weapon in very close & under cover. But I ain't no expert... and I ain't trying to pick a fight, either. Just curious. Dale
  8. There is another way to look at the replaybility issue: no computer game can offer infinite variablity due to the constraints of memory & computer processing power; that is why they are called games & sims. However in real life, when confronted by the infinite array of tactical possibilities the real world poses, good tactical thinkers have used doctrine to standardize their approach to certain tactical problems & issues & that is exactly what CM will teach. There will be enough scenarios & variablity to go around, I'm sure. There ain't no such thing as a perfect game or sim. (If there were, there wouldn't be large apartment complexes sitting in a small French or German burg ;>)...)I'll take imperfect every time & the way CM is shaping up I can't wait. I get so excited I can't even read the AAR's all the way thru without getting up to take a walk & calm down. This is indeed the tactical game I've been waiting for. Dale
  9. As I recall from reading "Closing with The Enemy" that wp was used by Shermans after they busted through a hedgerow in Normandy. One round was placed at each opposite far angle to take care of mg crews routinely placed there by the Jerries & then tank's mg used to spray entire back wall. This practice evolved using the toothed Shermans or demolition support to bust through the hedgerow & the tank/infantry combo to clear the field enclosed by the bocage. Would love to see it modeled.
