Greetings, all.

I downloaded the CBBO demo a few months ago and loved it. I must have played "Valley of Trouble" and a "Chance Encounter" a dozen times each. I finally bought the full version yesterday.

I didn't go to bed until way past my bedtime. ;)

My first game was "A Long and Bloody Mile" as the Canadians. It turned out to be "A Short and Bloody 500 Yards". Result Minor Axis Victory and a bunch of Canadians out of ammo (my tanks even ran out of machine gun ammo - I'd never thought that would happen)!

The next game was a 1500 pt. quick battle: allies attacking (that's me) and Germans defending a town map. That battle was actually going pretty well. I worked infantry into the both sides of the town and used them to suppress the defenders in the center. Assaulted the center, killed a platoon or two of Germans and started to work my armor around the rear of the town to administer the coup de grace.

All of a sudden rounds start bouncing off the Sherman's armor. "What the heck is that?" I watch in horror as one after another sherman succumbs to gun hits and track hits. I get a sound contacts of six or eight light guns deployed on the back edge of the map and they are hammering my tanks. I decide not to charge them with infantry, as they would probably get torn up.

And oh yeah, all my artillery spotters are where I left them - back near the start line with an excellent view of the front of the town, but can't do a blessed thing about the battery of 20mm flak guns deployed in the woods beyond it.

Even though it was a draw, it was fun.

The problem was that the map was long and thin (about 1000m deep and 600m wide). The town was probably 700m away from the start line. I sent a half-track back with "fast move" to pick up two 81mm spotters, but time ran out before they could get back into position.

I'll make sure that those spotters keep up with the action next time.

OOOOOOH yeah! the magic of CMBO-no sleep, start seeing your neighborhood as a battlefield. "Y'know, honey, if I wanted to assault the community center, that hill would be a prime spotting location."

Make sure you have some infantry looking out toward the rear areas before you bring the tanks around-what if those guns were 75's?

If you can get them there, the little platoon mortars can actually take down a gun or two or three before dying themselves. They are surprisingly accurate when they have a good line of sight.
