And the flamethrower itself

You can find these on the Resources page of www.battlefront.com. Some movies too.

"We learned a whole lot about flamethrowers during the last day of the

shoot. First, we got a brief lecture on its history and safety record. There

have been only a handful of accidents in the last 50 years or so, yet

thousands of these units have been in service. A pretty good record from

the sounds of it. After we got the rundown on the safety procedures, it is

no wonder accidents are rarer than rare. The mechanism itself is really

simple and safely constructed. Each time the unit is to goes into use it is

tested before hand. If a test fails, the unit is reworked right then and

there or it doesn't get used. After so many times fired stuff like gaskets

and other parts are replaced as a matter of course, needed or not.

The two examples at the shoot were both US Army models; one from WWII

and the other from the 1960s. They differ from each other to some

degree, but basically are the same device in principle. The later model is

made of lighter and stronger materials for example. There are different

fuel mixtures that can be used too. We saw diesel fuel and napalm fired at

night, but only used diesel during the day.

Using a flamethrower is very interesting. First of all there is this odd

feeling of carrying a bunch of highly flammable liquids on your back <g>

When shooting the first thing you notice is NOT the heat, but the recoil.

The thing really kicks! Next thing you sense is the smell of burning diesel

fuel. That is an aquired taste for sure! Oh, and THEN you feel the heat!! It

is sudden and oh so strong. All the hair on your arms and hands melt and

you feel like you just got a bad sunburn. This after only 2 seconds of

blast! You can't go for much longer than that as you feel like your skin is

going to boil off and your clothes are going to burst into flame.

In total the tanks can give you about 6 seconds of flame. That doesn't

sound like a lot? Trust us, it is *more* than enough to do whatever job is

asked of it."

Well my skiff's a twenty dollar boat, And I hope to God she stays afloat.

But if somehow my skiff goes down, I'll freeze to death before I drown.

And pray my body will be found, Alaska salmon fishing, boys, Alaska salmon fishing.
