Guest aka PanzerLeader
At the Regimental level in WW2, I'd be interested in knowing how C&C happened. Were there many radios available? Did one side have more than another? What kind of delays could one expect? What did they use when they didn't have radios? Messengers? How often were orders given to Batt. Commanders, and then to Company Commanders? etc, etc. I've found this to be the one aspect of the war I know least about and would love to get some info from all you grogs out there! Spook
I can only relate in generalities at this time, Panzerleader. But for the major combatants of the Western Front (including Germany), radios & field phones were certainly available down to company level. And for the US, it was often the case that radio links were available down to platoon level with "walkie-talkie" portable radios. This may also had been the case for the UK too, but I can't confirm. For the West Front Germans in 1944-45, radio link usually reached down only to company-level.
