Terry Drinkard
I want to discuss the possible implications of a light armor force structure. I am particularly interested in the application of technology as a force multiplier. I know some of the specific technologies I like are already out there, some are in service, some are in the testing stage. Technologies I like: LPOI Ground surveillance radar Air search/fire control radar (for ADA) Data link to Predator-class tactical UAV Inter-platoon tactical data link Independently trainable CDR's sight Integrated GPS navigation Integrated laser designator Actively controlled suspension I contend that a light tank must have a tank-killing gun on it. Missiles are nice, but a big gun is your friend forever. Add on a remotely controlled commander's machinegun (can I please get it coupled to the air defense radar?) and a pair of vertically launched off-boresite cue-able air defense missiles and I think we might have something here. Helicopters beware! Some questions: How does one simulate the advantages of a highly capable electronics suite? How can improved situational awareness be coded? Thanks in advance.
