Guest Ol' Blood & Guts
Have you heard of Interplay's Klingon Academy? It's a space combat simulator featuring NOT fighters, BUT capital ships. The Demo came out a week ago and it's very cool. Just check out these screenshots... http://www.federationhq.net/kanews/screens/dem033.htm http://www.federationhq.net/kanews/screens/dem025.htm http://www.federationhq.net/kanews/screens/dem032.htm NOW don't that look cool? Download the Demo and I guarantee that you won't be dissapointed! You can download it from here: http://www.startrekcontinuum.com/recroom/kacad_prev/preview.html It weighs in at a hefty 82MB, so be patient. ------------------ "Cry Woe...Destruction...Ruin and Decay. Compassion
Does it handle better than SF: Acadmy? That game felt mopre and more like a fighter sim. Doens't seem right, and definately not in keeping with Star Trek to have the Enterprise barrel rolling and yo-yoing through a battle. Is the game a little toned down? Guest Ol' Blood & Guts
Oh yeah, THAT was the FIRST thing they changed. Just try flying the Excelsior...it flys a little better than a Star Destroyer In fact, when you exit out of the Demo and let the advertisement run, one of the captions mentions that specifically. Something to the effect of "Ships handle more like Captial Ships rather than Fighters" The demo features two story driven missions against the Romulans and Gorns, a Training mission that has you flying a classic Klingon D-7 class against a Federation Freighter and then against two Federation Akula-class destroyers, one with a Bird-of-Prey escort. It also features a Quick Battle feature where you can pick any combination of Klingon Emperor-class Heavy Battlecruisers and Federation Excelsior-class Heavy Battlecruisers. The Emperor-class is the ship that is featured in the third screenshot above. The full version's Quick Battle will allow you to pit any of the 40+ ships in the game against one another. Interplay has taken all customer input from the dissapointment of Star Fleet Academy and has made the *ultimate* Space-Combat Sim to date! *Hint, Hint* My signature comes from the game's intro movie. ------------------ "Cry Woe...Destruction...Ruin and Decay. Besides, I figured that instead of going insane waiting for CM, to just go and do/play something else. Just like Steve said in another thread. ------------------ "Cry Woe...Destruction...Ruin and Decay. The worst is Death...and Death will have His day."--Gen. Lee
Interplay also did a fantastic job on Star Trek: Starfleet Command. Kligon Academy is more like a first person perspective with you on the bridge and handling the controls yourself. While Starfleet Command has you commanding your ship (or even fleet) from a 3/4 overhead perspective (you can zoom and adjust the camera much like in CM) while you issue orders for movement, firing weapons, sending boarding parties over to attack the enemy's ship, repairing systems, etc. Klingon Academy is like a flight simulator while Starfleet Command is like a tactical starship wargame. Interplay makes the best Star Trek computer games and I'm looking forward to trying out Klingon Academy.
