  1. Slightly off-topic, but if you'd like to see and hear a Chieftain Mk10 in Berlin camo, check out Mr Hewes YouTube channel (he buys and restores mostly ex-British Army equipment from the Cold War era).

In this episode he takes the Mk10 to Catterick Garrison - Chieftain starts around 6 minutes in:

Turn up the volume and enjoy :)

  2. The Italian tankettes were themselves derived from the British Carden Lloyd Mk VI carriers (Italy imported four of these in the 1930's and then copied them to form the basis of their own designs).  The suspension is a real give away:

See also this recent Tank Chat video from the 'Boys at Bovy' that explain the history of the Italian Carro Veloce tankette (the suspension on which has evolved quie a bit from the original Carden Lloyd design):

  3. Hi Hetzi,

here are some photos I took of the M60A1 at Tankfest 2019, in Bovington, Dorset which may be of interest in your quest for the correct colour scheme.  I can't swear that the scheme is 100% accurate, but I know the museum goes to a lot of effort to preserve their vehicles in as authentic a condition as possible.

Note - the M60 really is a lot bigger than a Churchill tank... ;)

  4. Sorry MJ, I don't understand why they're not visible to you :(   Based on the feedback from Vacilllator and Baneman, maybe you have to be in the UK to see them.. ?

[If anyone more technical than me can advise what the problem is I'd be grateful.  My photos are hosted on Dropbox - I've copied a link to each photo and pasted it into 'Insert image from URL' option under the 'Other Media' drop-down list; I've then replaced the -0 at the end of the Dropbox link with a -1 so the links embed the image rather than taking you to Dropbox.  All advice gratefully received!]

  5. Wasn't the PT-76 the first combat victim of the TOW missile (in Vietnam)? I think the key advantage of the PT-76 was it could swim / float - other than that it was a fairly basic vehicle with thin armour and a modest gun (effective range 600-700m?).  They used to display one at Duxford as part of the mini-tankfest events they organised to coincide with Father's day - very dusty affairs!

This time with added dust and showing off it's 'mega hatch' to good effect:

Since comparisons have been made with the CVR-T, here are some shots of a Scorpion and a Sabre (a hybrid vehicle that mated a Scorpion chassis with the turret from a Fox armoured car to produce a Scimitar-like vehicle).

  6. OK, I've hosted the photos on a different platform and tried a different way of linking to them - hopefully second time lucky .. 😉

Note the coincidence range finder on the German Leo (in it's place is a rather fetching Mapple Leaf emblem on the Canadian Leo):
