  1. Our tradition is to release 4-6 weeks after pre-orders have started. So use that as a guide for roughly when we will release.

We don't set a specific day to release the game in advance. We let it loose the day that we think the game is ready for release. :)

Awesome. Thanks for the information. I should be financially ready for a purchase at that point :].

Can't wait to experience Black Sea.

  2. I see some scenarios as being designed to be challenging but achievable first time through. Others are designed as being something you have to play over and over to win. The second lot I have alone/hate relationship with - frustrated that I am getting slaughtered each time - motivated to find a way to beat it. I couldn't count the number of times I failed on the second Troina mission, which I think clearly falls into the second category (I think it's the second anyway - the one with the three bunkers on the hill). I was really pleased to finally complete it

    SPOILERS******

(but slightly put off by the 'gamely?' solution of using far right flank, although I am sure this type of slaughter happened all too often in real life).

    END SPOILERS******

I was so traumatised by that mission though that, having had a look at the map on the next mission, I haven't even attempted it.....

So don't feel too hard on yourself! load it up again and try a different approach. I think you learn a lot more through failure than you do through easy wins.

I just try too hard to use infantry. Needs to just be patient and root out all enemies with arty.

Patience is my real issue here.

  3. Literally!

I thought this would be my favorite CM, but I absolutely suck at it! To the greatest extent!

Please, tell me, when a hill is a 60 degree angle and the enemy is sitting right over your starting area, how you proceed!

I tried to move to their flank, but I just created a new axis for the battle.

I tried to create a base of fire, but my men were too exposed and gunned down.

This is the second and third mission, btw.

I won the first, but it made sense to me.

The disadvantage is very strong here.

  4. lol the ongoing debate RT versus wego - which is more realistic...

I am still on the wego side precisely for the example above from @placebo - when that mortar round drops all the RT guy has to do is pause and reissue orders. The Wego guy has to just wince and bear it. As to the dumb moves, I am gonna do those in either mode. There is no cure. What's the expression? You can't fix stupid. :o

That's exactly why it's unrealistic. If I'm the master sergeant(or whatever it is that oversees an entire squad) and I see arty coming down right where my squad is heading, I will IMMEDIATELY yell at them to fall back. There's no way I'm going to wait 58 seconds before I say something.

WE-GO is a great representation of there being no human reactivity.

  5. Did you install the correct patches? AFAIK there are three versions of the patches up to and including 1.20: the battlefront.com, the paradox and the gamersgate version. Maybe you DLed the wrong patch for your game. It is a bit speculative, but that could be the reason for your key not working anymore.

I only see 1.10 and 1.20 leading up to 1.20.

  6. Heh heh. This one continues to upset people. It got a lot of hate on release. If you hate it now, wait 'til you play 'Crescendo of Doom'. :)

The Cameronians are generally regular experience with Normal motivation.

The ASH are generally Green experience with Normal to High motivation.

Both have good NCOs and leadership.

There are actually a few, very good units scattered about in both infantry formations.

Churchills are definitely a bit crap when compared to Shermans and are certainly NO MATCH for Panthers. However, the OBs and match-ups in most of these campaign missions are about as historical as I could make them. The Brits didn't do very well 'Going to Church' either. The 7th and 9th RTRs were both equipped with Churchills and they did do battle with some Panthers along the way.

Yes, it's a long campaign. That's just the way I make them. It could easily have been released as two separate campaigns, one for the Cameronians, 'The Road to Grainville' and one for the ASH, 'The Road to Gavrus', but two core groups is pretty much how I've been designing campaigns from the get-go. (Hasrabit had the Republican Guards and the Special Forces)

Hi! I meant no offense, or that it's bad. I enjoy LONG campaigns as well :]. It's just that I found about every third to every other mission to be extremely difficult. I can probably come back to this when I'm a higher skill level and do a bit better. Or maybe even just immerse myself in the inferiority of the british forces and enjoy that.

  7. I found that with the Brits one has to have arty and/or HMG's in support. The brit inf squads just can't go toe to toe...

The tanks seem pretty useless in tank battles as well. Had to assault a village with two Panzer VA in it. They wiped out my churchhills over and over again. I hit them from the side, I hit them from the rear. I got the bead on them first, fired first, but to no avail. Isn't a 75mm shot enough to take a panzer from the side?????? I swore it was :/.

I'm so frustrated with this campaign that I think I just can't finish it. I do not have the willpower. Panzers will take my churchhills all day long, and they will take them in ONE SHOT, whether from the front or from the side.

  8. Just finished the third mission with a major victory. When I saw the 2 Tigers and what I had to fight with initially, I thought it would be a ball buster, but I managed to kill both with PIATs so when the cavalry appeared it was basically a mopping up operation.

The Germans managed to occupy Grettle, but I had plenty of artillery so I just pummeled it until nothing was left.

Had I not been able to kill the 2 Tigers with my infantry it would have been a different story.

It's interesting how it happened that way for you. My AT guns were pointing right where the enemy tanks came from. My main problem was the arty barrage and mass assault on the right flank. My AT gun couldn't get a hold of the 75mm halftrack, so it wrecked my forces until my tanks arrived. I really enjoyed that level.

I'm still on the british campaign. It's extremely long. I'm really looking forward to the CM german campaign.

  9. I think I know what mission your playing... is this the one where you clear 2 towns and exit half your force? Are you talking about one of the first buildings you attack in that mission?

Either way I found that with the bits it was especially important to get a lot of angles to the fire. They seem to rely on, um, unimpressive small arms firepower to get thier jobs done. I think the plan was to win with their rifle marksmanship. So to get the critical firepower output I needed from them to break positions in a timely enough fashion to not run out of ammo, I worked extra hard with them to get those big angles of fire. even highly motivated toops dont like bullets bouncing off the ceilling from all or half the directions at once. You just need them to flee. I used my bren carriers to suppress at long range while a moved my infantry up and around to shoot from all over. You might be on a harder level than Im thinking of tho and you been flying through these campaigns you might be better than me already.

That's the one! I've been trying to completely avoid using B company. Trying to be precise and keep C company alive.

  10. Boy, I'll tell ya. I'm working on the british campaign, and the german youths are the best of the best. One or two of them will sit in a building with an MG and take my men out 1 by 1 while I waste rounds not killing them all day.

Two squads and a LMG have been firing for two minutes straight and haven't cleared the second floor of this building. I'll run out of ammo before I even take over the first objective.

What am I missing? If I have no heavy guns, I absolutely MUST assault?

  11. Read some WWII histories and you'll find these things happened all the time. Units would mistake enemy vehicles for friendlies in the night, and sometimes even fall into formation with them! I'm not saying that CM explicitly models this misidentification. But I *am* saying that the effect in either case is exactly the same -- a failure to engage a close enemy that "should" have been shot at. So lighten up and loosen up and remember this is messy and chaotic *war,* not a parade ground exercise or matter of charts and penetration tables. The more you approach CM in that spirit the more you'll like it. Embrace the suck.

That's pretty interesting information, really. I figured that their eyes would have adjusted to the darkness after a few minutes. I guess that would be highly dependent on the situation and the light that the moon is reflecting.

  12. I would like to know which kinds of 'Orders' the AI uses in either QB's or Scenarios, and which 'Orders' are used under what circumstances?

This is, because I would like to only use the same 'Orders' the AI uses and nothing more...I simply want to have an equal advantage with the AI.

ex; Does the AI use 'Run', 'Hide', or 'Covered Arcs'.

In addition, It always seems in a Meeting that I will get to the Objective a couple turns before the AI ( usually, because I use the 'Run' for Inf and 'Fast' for Vehicles )...Should I wait a turn before moving to better balance the game ?

How does everyone else handle or balance their QB's or Scenario's against the AI ?

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Joe

I treat the AI like I would treat any player. It's hard enough, in my opinion. It seems to detect my weak spots and takes advantage accordingly.

  13. If one did all the scenarios and campaigns, and played at 15minutes a turn, I did a rough estimate that there was about 1000 hours of play time in the series, without any Repository material and without the issue of QBs, and that was before CMRT came out. That is half a standard work year. And that is if one only played a scenario/campaign once, and many seem to be designed to need several attempts before obtaining a victory.

Maybe you can do faster than 15 minutes a turn. But I also probably put several hours of (pleasurable) thought and analysis prior to starting a battle, and periodically the same amount of time at points during the battle.

The down side to that is that, in effect, very few people are actually playing the same CM2 game. I tried to start a scenario-specific thread for comments, but, except with some notable exceptions, most CM2 players are not going to be playing, or even have played, the same content. Add in the periodic engine version upgrades, and the variation in experience among players is amplified.

I do not take 15 minutes per turn. That could be why I've drawn or lost most campaigns I've attempted. I don't necessarily let that get me down, though. I'm glad to go back through and play them later, and I often find myself saying "doh!" and learning from stupid mistakes.

  14. No issues!? Are you joking? This game has more issues than the New York Times! I have ridiculous LOS issues in CMFI and I won't purchase any more CM games for all the problems associated with this platform. I've had a team right behind an AT gun next to a building (3m with no obstructions) that couldn't see the gun! WTF! And on several occasions have had teams assault tanks next to buildings that were 5m or less right behind the AVF that were unable to see it! No excuses can explain away these egregious examples of soldier's inability to see a 30 ton vehicle in plan site with zero impairment. Those are just a few examples of hundreds of questionable LOS matters I have experienced. I could write a dissertation on ways to improve this game and I'm not the only one. Spend a little time reading the CM forums.

Glad to hear it's not just me. It's really a turn off. I had a bren carrier today that was about five feet away from a german halftrack. It was the dead of night, and they apparently couldn't see it.

    ...

Apparently they couldn't see a HALFTRACK WITH DESERT CAMO.

It's quite frustrating at times. Day battles don't seem to have nearly as many issues.
