  1. I just wanted to chime in with my view about this. I have really enjoyed every scenario I have played in this game so far EXCEPT for the naval battle one. That one I found as dull as ditchwater - highly unrealistic, I think I sank every one of the German ships and only had about four ships of my own left at the end; there are no tactics to speak of just massed firing and retaining line of sight; no sense of a real naval engagement whatsoever really.

This game works well for land battles, but the sea battles are terrible! Paradox does them much better.

  2. Well neither of those answers my question about getting more challenge out of the AI and what level I should play at. I dont really play online games, cant make the necessary time commitment etc.

I was more hoping for a explanation of what the difficulty level actually affects and whther I should change this and/or the AI experience slider.

Besides with Gallopoli it seems that its more to do with the enemy forces being in incorrect initial locations so that they cant trap the Allies on the coast.

  3. I am interested in getting Global Conflict + the two new Communism and Democracy expansions but there doesnt seem to be a way to do this as a bundle. And news on when I can expect that?

Theres no way I can afford to buy them separately for $75 and I dont want to just buy Global Conflict on its own because it looks like its too high level for me.

  4. Ive bene enjoying plalying this game starting with the scenarios as the Entente, but I have found most of them to be a doddle. Gallipoli for example where I didnt meet any resistance at all when landing just later on around the towns, what happend to be trapped on the coast? And then the Jersulame one and the next Lawrence of Arabia one - they were both very easy as well.

I started playing on Beginner then moved to Intermediate difficulty and havent found any noticeable change.

So what do others play these on - Expert? What do these difficulty levels actually affect?

And what about AI bonus experience? What do people play with that set as generally? Does this just increase the quality of the AI troops?

Because so far the only game I have played that was anywhere near a challenge, where I actually got beat in it, was the Somme. In fact in that game the Germans broke through my lines!

What I want is to play the game on as close a historical footing as possible where I am playing at the accurate difficultly that the battles were fought in real life. So what difficutly would be best chosen for that do you think?

But some of the scenrios like Gallipoli make me wonder if the forces are arranged correctly at all? werent the Entente forces pinned down by infantry in the hills overlooking the coast and constantly bombarded by artillery etc? Where is all that in this scenario then?

  5. Is there any way to find out what my objectives are during the game itself? I get told what they are at the start of each campaign in those annoying screens that disappear after a few minutes, but I can never remember. Surely there must be a way of pulling up this screen again during the game, but I'm damned if I can find it! It's an absolute must have for a game this complex so I am surprised there are no obvious buttons for it on the right hand side menu.

And can we have a button to get rid of those briefing screens, instead of them just disappearing? I often am only half way through reading them when they vanish. Its really frustrating, I find I have to restart the same campaign several times just to read the briefing properly.

  6. For the Japanese/Chinese war and the Pacific, this would be the best bet:

The list of campaigns included is here:

Though as it's an older game in our series it doesn't have many of the new features that have been introduced since, but it's still fun to play, and with the latest patch it contains quite a lot of scenarios.

Thanks for that - any plans to update the SC Pacific game at all?

  7. I am interested in Global Conflict + Gold but I cant see any information relating to scenarios. There are loads of smaller scale scenarios in the WW1 game but the website just mentions the global war (with different entry points) for the Global Conflict game.

I know with Paradox's HOI2 and HOI3 I have been meaning to try playing the Japanese/Chinese War and the Pacific War, and I really enjoyed playing the Desert War and Battle of the Bulge scenarios in those games. So I was wondering if there were any of these sorts of limited smaller scale conflicts in this game.

I dont really enjoy playing games on more than one front/one region is the reason (gets too complicated). I like the idea of the smaller scaled conflicts in the WW1 game thats the kind of thing I can really enjoy (like Operation Michael). So are there any in this game, I just know I probably wont be bothered to play through the whole of the war with all its various fronts!

  8. Been trying the demo got about 2 minutes into the Russian Civil War and it crashed. Not a good sign.

But I have been impressed with what I have seen so far, these are more like my kind of strategy games compared to Paradox's games. But they are a bit expensive, are there any sales on here at all? I would like to get his game but I dont think I can afford it for the moment.

One thing I dont like in either of the WW1 demos is that the overview map looks all squashed - was this fixed in one of the patches?

Also the zoom view looks a bit useless because you cant really make out the units very clearly when you are zoomed out, you really need to zoom in to play the game I find. Is this still the same in the full game? Also the zoomed out view is just a bit too close, its practically no different to the completely zoomed in view, it would have been better if it had been a bit more zoomed out.

Still I might have to get this game because it does look quite outstanding. I was loking at Slitherines WW1 game but tht just looks like a Panzer General game - too small scale for a WW1 game I think. This game looks better.

Is this a relatively new game - where are all the forum posts?
