In fact I find it concerning that people are now speaking of "mobiks" as if they are somehow subhuman and that it's funny they get massacred.

Especially when it comes to Ukrainian propaganda videos where they add clown music to gruesome videos of Russians getting blown to pieces.

Every time I watch a video like that, I find myself thinking "Are these really the people we are supporting? Maybe we should just let leave them to enjoy this war that they seem to find so funny".

How is the view from that high horse? Against their will or not, the mobiks are still invading Ukraine as a part of an army that has been shelling civilians and committing crimes left and right. I imagine the average Ukrainian serviceman is far too desensitized at this point to care about the feelings of their enemy.

So the most likely expansion countries seem to be Eastern European NATO forces (realistically Poland), the larger Western ones, and some of the smaller NATO partners thrown in ala CMSF NATO.  I think Turkey got mentioned in rumblings, although given current events, unless it was already in production seems less likely now.

    Maybe VJTF as well?

  3. Indeed, the only armor in the NATO force is the light armor in a single Stryker battalion, which is credited with having deployed from Germany during the crisis buildup prior to the conflict.

Where was Scouts battalion and the APC-borne reserves (probably battalion size as well) during all this?

Great thread by the way, a very informative as well as entertaining read.

  4. What human wave? It is a frontal assault with tank support something which was very common in the mentioned battle. If you compare the german and soviet casualties and read the memoirs of people who fought there, all of them pretty much describe the same thing - a massive preparatory artillery barrage followed by a combined frontal assault. The soviets did not manage to break through so they tried until they bled out. There was an decent amount of military personell involved in the production of the film including the guy who wrote it, so i wouldn't write off all the things you deem inapropriate for a "tactically superior 1944 red army" as ignorance.

  5. I would like to be able to target buildings with the javelin though. Too bad there is no direct attack mode in the game. I had a squad armed with a javeline come under fire from a full squad in the 2nd floor of a nearby building. Would have been nice to pop smoke, split off an armored team, move it over and out a missile into the window

I've certainly seen my infantry engage a building with Javelin direct attack mode, happened in Objective Delta a few days ago.

  6. Hehe... No offense Kuri; but if you really believe what you have written here and not just trolling... you might be "a little late to the party". As I've said several times on this board - Geopolitics are not about doing what's right; but rather "what's right for you". The Russians play that game well, but they are still "small fish" compared to how we (US) embrace this notion.

In retrospect my post does seem naive, got a bit carried away.

  7. Shouldn't it be up to every country to decide for themselves what they want though? The Ukrainian people have clearly demonstrated what THEY want for their country at the Maidan and afterwards. What gives Russia the right to bar them from it? Spheres of influence be damned, Russian agression in Ukraine is completely unjustifiable.

  8. 25 millions? o_O

Census data on Ukranian SSR population:

    1926 - 23 millions

    1937 - 29 millions.

But between 1926 and 1937.... somehow.... 25 millions were dead due to starvation.

Yeah... i've seen a similar argument with census data from Holocaust deniers.

And the bit about being inherently suspicious/afraid of "the West" due to some historical invasions, well that is just a convenient excuse, by that logic i suppose i should fear the Germans, Poles, Swedes, Danes, Russians... But interestingly only one of those countries gives cause for concern.
