  1. Unfortunate. I quit playing this because work took over my life. Now I seem to have more time and was hoping to get back into it as the demo rekindled my interest until I tried multiplayer. I even just tried playing CM1 and found that it doesn't display right and I can't end my turn after watching the video so I guess I am screwed :( If the camera was more like the TOW camera I may have caved but unfortunately that isn't the case.

thanks to all that tried to help me get the demo going.

  2. Nah not interested in hotseating. I have neck and back issues so the way my pc is setup is the only way I can even play also I don't have the patience :P I have had to give up a lot of gaming due to health constraints. I am basically in a recliner with no table so I thought CM2 was going to be ideal. i have trouble reading a lot of what is on the screen because of the distance I have to be from the TV in order to play anything. I can get around it in turn based as I have more time to try and decipher what I need to.

I am a bit puzzled why they took it out. They already have a real time game with the Theater of War series. The graphics there are much better as is the camera but I really missed the control I had with turn based.

That actually surprised me because being a huge Close Combat 2 player I loved the real time there. However it was overhead and smaller scale. Also the game speed was much slower so you weren't in a frenzy to react like most RTS games.

I really wanted to buy this game. I hope they do something to address this.

  3. I was going to pick this up and it appears you have done away with the turn based TCPIP? Unless I am missing something? (hopeful)

I really enjoyed the strategy/control of turn based. I thought I would like real time but it just isn't a fit for this game at least to me. I am too spoiled on playing the way it was originally designed. I find I am spending way too much time fighting the camera and losing all the control I had over what is going on. (Theater of war camera works much better)

I even went back and looked at the shock force demo but it appear that it is the same way. Very bummed at this point as I was hoping to play with my son.

At what point did this cease? Any chance of adding it back in ? :P PBEM just ain't my thing I don't have the patience for fooling with that.

  4. Now I have the screen resolution kind of resolved I am really considering picking this up.

However, I need to know if I can have the game running on two machines in my house. I would like to play my son occasionally but really don't want to pay for two copies as he probably won't play much and it isn't worth the second copy. Most games allow you to play on a lan without the purchase of a second copy can I do this with CM?

    thanks

  5. I am running a GTX 460 SE. I ran into the same problem with my 8800 as well. I have seen it happen before so I agree I think it is the PC/TV combo but I have seen other games do it correctly so I know it can be handled with code. Most games seem to handle it OK. I ran into the same problem on some of the versions of Civilization and some of Total War. It's annoying to say the least as there are games I definitely can't play. Due to neck problems this is the only way I can be on the PC though.

I will have a look at the TV again tomorrow and see if I can locate the manual. Maybe there is some way to get at the aspect setting as was mentioned. It isn't coming up readily though that is for sure :(

thanks for all the help guys. The demo definitely brought back some nostalgia

  6. Thanks for replying. No there is no aspect ratio on my TV unfortunately. It seems to me there has to be a check being done in the code to look for specific values or minimum values since it is overwriting values in the file it doesn't like. I am hoping they are going to address this or offer another workaround. Was having a decent time in the demo but it was frustrating not being able to see and use all the menu options.

  7. Hi,

I was thinking of picking up the latest Combat Mission however it claims to support my desktop resolution and it doesn't work. I have edited the display file and that doesn't work either and when it runs it overwrites the values in the file by placing a zero in the fields it doesn't like. I have tried a couple different settings to try and force my resolution and it makes no difference.

I have my desktop set at 1168 x 664 x 60 HZ when the game displace it cuts off half the compass and the bottom/side part of the screen making it impossible to see the command menu's completely. I am using a television as a monitor. Most games handle it ok but I have seen other strategy games do the same thing.

I tried running in 800x600 to just to see if it would take the low width value but really doesn't seem to like it. 1168 x 664 is the only way my desktop displays properly on the TV where i can read it. I have the Theater of War series and I don't play them for the same reason and unfortunately I found this out AFTER buying them.

As far as the camera scroll speed is there a way to speed this up as it is way to slow & cludgy for my liking

Any help appreciated. As I said if I can resolve this I will probably pick the game up but no dice otherwise.

    thanks

  8. Hi All,

Been a long time since I have been here my old login from when I played the first combat mission seems to be not working or tied to a defunct email addy.

Anyhow bought this game and I am really loving it this is the first real time game since close combat 2 that I have enjoyed this much. I do have a licensing question though. I want to play my son on the lan do I have to buy two copies to do this? Most games will allow you to play lan with no trouble so I was hoping it was the same here until i was sure he would stick with it...

    thanks
