  1. Anyway,

Trying to put an excel sheet into this format sucks but you get the drift. The upgrade to the unit would be based on a relative factor depending on how important that feature was to the unit. So a veteran upgrade for a sniper or FO will be more expensive than a veteran upgrade for say an XO.

The system I am working with uses drop down for your selections and solves based on the exisitng table.

It will not factor in 'actual' weapons nor 'actual' ammo count as these numbers lie within the 'excellent' equipment and 'full' supply.

  3. I think I found out the hard way in designing a scenario that this guy is terrbile at calling in Artillery. I think I waited about 10-15 minutes for the rounds to fall. I went back and looked at him and realized he is used for calling in air support not artillery.

So if I have scouts and snipers linking up with a platoon later on, what it the best way to get an FO with the snipers and scouts.

I am using the Stryker Infantry Battalion group....

So is the JTAC only good with Air Support and not Artillery and who is my best FO out there...

  4. Not sure how to share an excel sheet in the easiest format...

    You can e-mail me at

    phillip.wight@WellsFargoAdvisors.com

if you are interested in sharing ideas on an excel sheet.

Basically I am using tables with the Vlookup function to take the data from that table and pull in the unit cost and upgrade costs from a different table.

The thing is that A Sniper team has different upgrade values compared to a HQ team. Experience and leadership play a heavier role for say a HQ unit whereas a sniper unit has more expensive upgrades for equipment, supply and the like.

A sniper with 'severe' supply comes pretty cheap whereas an HQ unit with 'severe' supply only has a marginal difference in cost since their ammo is not what they are all about.

Hope that made sense.... e-mail me to get a better idea.

It would be great if there was a neutral spot to host our excel data....

  5. Steve,

We all know you are too busy talking about bridges so the thought did not cross my mind...

Seriously I think everyone knows it is a big ole can of nasty worms to think we'll develop stats on some 500 troops...

But what a good challenge to hone down some excel skills and learn more about the game units and their functions...

The added benefit is that 'some' of us might get distracted long enough to alleviate some of the "But I really really want to blow up bridges..." comments.

I see it as a ramp up project to carry us into the release of the Nato module and Normandy....

  6. I'll try and put something together this week...

I like some of the functions of Excel 2007... tabling, indexing, groups etc...

You know we could get really anal about this if we start excel... range... ammo....all of the little nuances that people want to know...

I'm going to have a go at the on-line manual and see if I can copy/paste export some info from there.

it would be really handy to have it open to some fellow comrades to help post/update as needed.

  7. You guys and your bridges...

As Miley Cyrus would say..."Build a bridge and get over it..."...

(Oh God let the hate mail cometh....)

No exploding bridges is fine by me just as long as they are easily enough to model in on the scenario builder without making huge hills to accommodate them...

  8. Whatever you want to do is good with me. Just provide a link to it.

I have a hard time building scenarios sometimes since I have no idea if the forces are balanced.

A point system, although flawed will partially alleviate that.

I'd be happy to share ideas on the system.

Don't think we even need a 'blessing' on the idea as long as it is functional and practical for those wanting to play with it.

I'd love to have a 'export' ability so the stats and points can be moved out to excel...

  9. Steve,

While understanding your points, every game out there has some form of a point system. Take the Total War series. I have to spend gold (points) to purchase my units and more gold (points) to upgrade them and the like. I don't believe that anyone ever stopped and said hey wait a minute those crossbow men should cost such and such gold.

...well they may have but you learn to accept the unit cost and drive on...

Though I understand there are a lot more Grogs and the like that haunt this forum and will cite archaic transcipts from a German officer during WWII that his Panzer deserved a better showing...

Anyway, shying away from points is like shying away from choosing a 3-d model of some tank because people won't agree with your depiction.

Fear of people not agreeing with you has never stopped you yet...

Though it is good that there will be some form of system for the Normandy game.

  10. This could be done in excel easily enough. I'd build a rough draft if you are interested. You could post the raw data here and people could agree/disagree with the stats. I use Excel 2007.

The problem is getting all of the names of the units imported into excel.

From there you could pick your army and it would do the rest for you.

Not by my CMSF right now but you would need to assign points to a unit like.

    Sniper 15 pts

    Elite 4 pts

    Excellent equipment 3pts

    High Motivation 3 pts

I forget what the options are but you get the drift.

We could have a thread for each army and list the points there wilth an open discussion...

    Just my thoughts....

    Joebloggs,

You asked for it so here is another for you.....

    Seriously,

understand you may be disappointed but there is no other place where the Devs would post some couple thousand posts answering people's questions even if someone else just asked the same thing or had the same gripe.

If you are truly upset and not just ranting, chalk it up as a mistake and drive on. Can't tell you how many gamess i bought that are less than spectacular. I learned to do a little research before buying something and keeping my expectations in check....

  12. GSX,

    Perfect sense....

I'd hate it if we all agreed all the time and the wazy BFC defends things makes you understand the underlying reasons why it is so.

Owning/playing hundreds of games i have never seen a baord where the devs and betatesters are so active.

I think Steve loves a good arguement and it has been a great passage of time seeing the banter back and forth.

I think everyone wants a good infantry rendition but the +/-s don's work to their favor right now. But we can still moan and complain about it and they know gamers are never going to be happy....

...in the end, they may even listen to us and throw us a bone once in awhile....

  13. Wow...having a bad day or something???

Not sure if you are on the same board or not but this place is pretty tame compared to most and most of what Steve and Moon have said in support of the game to the naysayers has been a pretty good tit for tat...

I'm surprised that no one has nailed you to the crucificial wall for being a Fan-Boy yet...

Love the game, the devs and beta testers.... hate the pedastal...

    You can step down now....

  14. One of the beautiful and about time things they have done is raise the life insurance on GIs. When I was in it was $100K. Now I think it is $400K. So yes, the 'bean counters' finally can agree that taking out someone aimed at killing our troops is cost effective.

I'd hate to think of the cost of an IED killing a couple of our troops and maiming some more and blowing up a Humvee or whatever.

Cost of the Humvee+Death benefits paid+medical costs for survivors+disability pay for the rest of their life+counseling costs+hit to unit morale+logistics cost to evac the wounded etc etc etc....

Cost of one Hellfire wiping a Baddee off the face of the earth....priceless

  15. OOooohhh.. They made that so easy even my men can figure it out....

    Reminds me of Monty Python.....

WHAT is your favorite color....Red..No Blue.... WHHHAAAAAAAA !!!!

    Modern day scit....

WHAT is the safe color for the mines..... Red....No Green...BLAAAAAMMM!!
