Speaking of the tough Char I just saw a Battlefield documentry from the France Blitz,Aye, they're tough little nuts to crack but nevertheless.... he must die
there is a Char B getting hit from the side by unknown german gun the crew is seen evacuating shortly after! It seems the germans had something
at the front to bust them!
God bless your troops

Thats what I do,put "advance" and "shooting" on hold, I have had enemy tanks sitting 15metersI agree 100 percent,,,In tow u cannot rush out without sending scouts first,,,I usually hide them in a bush with the hold position and hold fire commands this also gives u time to pause and go into the First person view and see what terrain (as Normal dude suggested) features give u a better shot at the enemy.
from my scouts without spotting them, thats when I realised there was nothing wrong with the LOS in the game,I just hope that the arcade gamers don't get all their wishes because it will make the game dull and easy
God bless your troops

Well because of this I would like to see a "MISSION RECORDER" implemented, than we can share all this stuff just like in IL2.This is the kind of stuff we'll need for the upcoming video contest! TOW lends itself very well to heroic actions like this, where one man does make a difference.
God bless your troops!

If you use hard level the game ups the Waepons ballistic,s also I could have retreated and probably safed 3-4 tanks,I just wanted to see
how this would play out,so i just sat back
and watched the action, its the 3rd german mission in the campaign, also the early war
german tanks where no match for the 76mm russian
T34s I just wanted to see if the gun vs armour
rating bear any ressemblance to historic accounts
I think game devs are not to far of the mark!

I just ran into this over at Simheadquarters :eek:Alright folks... you have rights to opinions, and rights to disagree... but because your banned at battlefront, does not give you the right to come over here and slander other people, other sites, other mods, and other admins.
Please talk about the game...your likes and dislikes, you can even say Battlefront is not showing good support for this game, but personal attacks on people will not be tolerated here... maybe getting your own forum or web site for that kind of stuff is needed.
Thank you for your time and postings.

What I do when I am in setup,I try to use the terrain features to concel my troops and tanks,
also spread your infantry out to reduce arty
casualities. When I start a battle I usually send
2-3 infantry scout to survey the enemy positions, because of that I dont have to many
nasty surprises, also I dont have a problem with LOS I usualy know where the enemy gun positions are, this in turn allows me to plan accordingly.
I love this scouting its part of the fun for me anyway,I am sure all waring factions during WW2 where using so called "Forward Based Observers" prior to any engagement, also of course great value was given to Areal Observation.
Anyone using sound military tactics
schould get good results on the battlefield with fewer loses,at least I do in this game.
God bless you troops!

There is a lot more involved to successfully playing the scenarios than I first believed and you have to use a wide range of tactics and strategies to pull it off successfully in veteran mode. It took me a while to slooooowww way down and really focus on what each unit was doing to be successful. It was HARD! and very involving. Love it. thanks

I did the Chern Station battle a few days ago,
as axis here is some of the events that occured.
I did my usual scouting to locate the heavy russian guns and get a feel for the land, once the guns where out of action due to arty and
concentrated tank fire.I decidet to use all 6 of
my tanks to advance on the first set off the russian trenches to mop up remaining enemy, that
accomplished I withdrew slithly into hull down to provide cover for my infantry that started to
move into the trenches and settle in,all with no
casualties.Again I ordered scouting partys to
probe the enemy,this trigger's 2 T60,s to roll
out in the open at the farside forest, alarmed
at losing my scout's I ordert all my tanks slightly ahead to knock out the T60's the first
burst in flames crew did not bail!! the second
came to a halt in some bushes crew bailt and rushed out of sight,I pushed my scouts a little further no enemy to be seen,by now the battle
looks like a stroll in the park, the main objective looks like easy picking, spirits are high.So I order my 6 tanks to advance towards
Chern station, infantry will follow up when
enemy resitance was dealt with by my tanks!
As I am halfway across the opening this T34 appears amongst the trees in front of my tanks
at about a 45deg's angle to my line of advance, I am completely cought in the open, retreat is no more an option,so i order my tanks to open fire.
This is the beginning of a 15 minute standoff
that almost cost me victory!
One of my early rounds knock's the left side
track of the T34 tank,by now my tanks are showering this thing with shells the russians decide to duke it out,one by one the T34 dissables my tanks, and starts knocking them
out,not only that,it also suppreses my infantry!!
This dont'look good anymore,fortunately I still
got my 2 german reserve 50mm pak guns hiding behind the hill near the setup area I order them
forward into positions that will enable them to engage the T34 at long range, the move up takes
what seems like ages.By now 10 minutes have passed I got 1 immobile tank left half my crew is dead and we are low on ammo, trying to knock out the russian tank.
However the T34 looks badly beat by now,the auxiliary fueltanks have blown off toolkits are hanging by their last bolt, bits and pieces are
scattert on the forest ground its had better days!Finaly my pak guns are starting to fire and zero in on the T34,one shell penetrates the hull
the driver decides to live and fight another
day,he bails and runs off into the forest,to my dissbelive the T34 scores a direct hit on one of
my pakguns and destroys it,now we are left with
1 50mm packgun 6 rounds of ammo hopping to score a good hit at long range, two shots later my pak
scores a good hull hit and sets the T34 ablaze, guess what the crew finaly decides to abandon the tank and run off into the forest.
I was almost in tears by the drama i had seen
unfold on my monitor. Its this deep modeling of
equipment damage and crew behavior that realy
set this game apart from anything i have ever
seen in a wargame, I am a happy camper here.
I sure hope the dev,s manage to built a recorder
into this game so one can archive some of these events.
Oh did I win!! you bet.

How realistic was it, in the WWII, to send a couple guys, way ahead of the pack, to check things out, unless they had a radio?
-------------------------------------------------
General Custer didn't scout either the outcome
is history.Do you realy believe any prudent commander would rush his troops blindly over any
hill, peoples lives are at stake! How would you
like to serve under a commander that order you
and your squadmates to simply charge of into the unknown!!

PS I like that this game has no LOS/LOF lines, I think we all got spoiled by CM in those regards. Although in a large battle it might be necessary with so many units. Maybe something the scenario designer can toggle on/off?
-------------------------------------------------
I totaly agree I also dont want any more palying aids, all these, pointers, healthbars,
arrow indicators,targetboxes,enemy highlighters,
LOS and LOF indicators, waypoint indicators would totaly ruin my Gaming atmosphere.I purchased this game for its ability to simulate WW2 ground
warfare,in a visually appealing 3d environment wich I think it does quiet well!
I dont want the game to become "Battlestation
Midway" or "Command & Conquer". For that matter
I didn't notice that the game had a brocken Camera or LOS system, what else did I miss!!

"This is one the best things that you can do and will reduce your casualties dramatically. Most games really skimp on the pre-battle scouting, which is arguably one of the more important elements to a battle!"

Unless they had a radio, how are they going to transmit the info back to the rest of the troops?
-------------------------------------------------
You answerd this one yourself the WW2 scouting parties used powerfull optical aids and radio transmitters to relay information to there
respective headquartes. The russians even went further, they would dispatch commandos at night
to capture sleeping german guards to be interogadet at the russians bases,I would imagine that the captives where rather cooperative!!

If something is firing at you and you can't see what it is..get the hell out of dodge. Don't keep sitting there saying if I can't see him he shouldn't see me.
You can look for muzzle flashes if you dare stay around but it's best to leave, back out if you're a tank ..and scout whats firing at you out there. It could be tank, an AT, or a howitzer.

HardRock has a good point here!!

I have played most popular wargames Atomic CC, Talonsoft CS, B/F CMBO, CMBB, CMAK I look at
them each in its own light, and enjoy them as such. Now we have TOW giving us an RTS go at WW2,I had this game for a week now, once I discoverd that playing slow and careful makes for a great gaming experiance I started to realy like it.I hope that C1 will develop this title
further I feel it has great potential.
The game has far less problems than some people
will tell you.
Here is some things I would like to see implemented in the future if possible.
1.Playback recorder
2.Make the mission editor Interface simpler and more User oriented, example the trigger generating
process looks like a real serious hurdle for the
average program user.
3.If game becomes commercialy viable create an african theatre addon.
4.If possible add a binocular view to the cupola view of tanks and heavy guns(that would be realy
cool)
I feel if its easy for the customer to create
new missions and Campaigns,a lot of content would be created to share with others and it
would generate more interest in the game.
Anyway the game is a blast as it is,it can only
get better.

I usualy scout ahead then use armor and infantry
to slowly move ahead, often I have almost no armor
loses and 75 ~ 80% of my infantry left after the battle.I never rush anything, the thing about TOW
I like,is the fact that the game is RTS but lets you play at your own pace, because of this you have time to think and apply whatever strategy you wish.
