  1. OK Everybody... Kumbaya, Kumbaya....

The best way to deal with the moaners is to ignore them. Think of how you feel when you post a well thought out constructive argument or helpful suggestion and it GETS TOTALLY IGNORED BY EVERYONE!!

How belittling, how insignificant you feel, how soul destroying, does anyone care? Hello is there anyone there....? Hello...? sniff, sniff

They will soon go away to seek their gratification elsewhere.

There will be patches and mods I am sure so it can only get better. It's a PC game after all. So far my limitation to full enjoyment is my old PC so I have yet to explore the game to the full extent.

That being said I can see both sides of the argument. I do not feel it's a waste of my $. There are some things to be fixed. I'm not getting my cammo underpants in a twist, like some posters in this forum, over the game's faults.

you should actually read that thread rather then just the title of it. It is most enlightening ;)

Not specifically referring to your post KA4, which I did read ;)

The general level of dissapointment that some express is, while understandable to a degree, due to a lack of familiarity and not as a result of enough hard work or even trying it seems.

  4. Your little AAR 'River Rats' BHBigHart is great.

The few training missions I've done so far have shown that proper tactics are rewarded. Knowing how the controls work and the application of sound combat tactics go a long way to ensuring a successful outcome.

These little boys who post 'I can't win this mission, the game sucks' threads are nothing more than quitters. They don't deserve and will not find a spot in any company I want to be part of.

Your perseverence is most admirable and this AAR should be read by all.

  5. My download took 5+ hours on a 8Mbps cable modem avg D/L speed of 130KB/sec.I am in Canada. My ISP could find no problem with my D/L, no limitations or other problems here at our end. I also had 5 file errors mostly, I believe, hope, pray related to the campaign portion. I used 'ignore' as 'retry' didn't help. The install was problematic too as a result. Two BSOD after which I copied and deleted the demo then reinstalled my video drivers and tried install again.

But I can play the game, so far. I will wait untill my CD arrives before I try a campaign or anything more involved and do a complete re-install like Tooz.

  6. After having played this mission a couple of times I don't think winning as the Russian is the point. The default defensive position is not the best, not being able to emplace the AT guns is unfortunate and you are at a disadvantage number-wise.

The APCR rounds for the AT guns do work. I knocked out the PZIII's early on my second go at this, on the first I let the battle run it's course with little input just to see what would happen, you men were correct the Kraut's very accurate at tank gunnery. The ATR's do disable the PzII's , they were not too happy to attack the trench without the PzIII's untill the ATR's were gone or suppressed.

The Russian's lose anyway, it sucks but there it is. The mission briefing is quite specific, it doesn't say knock out the tanks or kill the enemy infantry it says in effect fight and hold the position, you die in the process, but War is all hell as Gen Sherman says.

I am a long time ASL player. If the setup was the same I think I would have a decent chance as the Russian playing this mission as an ASL scenario. The rate-of-fire and armour penetration of the APCR rounds of the 45L ATGs would take care of those Panzers pretty quick. Two sections of German infantry against a dug in Russian squad supported by two AT guns and two ATRs would be a tough nut to crack without armour support. But this ain't ASL.

No, its a brand new computer war game we all have little experience with. The modding community hasn't had a crack at this one yet. So fight this mission as best you can, learn a thing or two about the controls and how the game works and carry on.

  7. I too have had a sloooow D/L experience. Even with a D/L manager DAP in this case the D/L speeds were ridiculous at 10KB/sec. I have a cable modem and should get lightning fast D/L speeds. I am waiting to get access to the link to try again, I tried and quit several times and now the link has dissapeared, contacted the elicence mail to regain access, hope it works...

I dunno, I dont see how the brits will manage against panthers without a firefly sherman or the 17 pounder. The 17 pounders made up 50% of the British ATG force and were mounted on 25% of their tanks by Normandy, I don't quite get why it would not be included.

I don't have a problem with flanking the panthers, but it will be harder to battle them then it should have been. I don't like having a limitation placed on me that was not historic, and to be honest given how the fireflies were spread among the British tank forces, they were very much present in most battles in Normandy and beyond.

Quite right, one per troop in British and Canadian squadrons. Hopefully they will be added.... someday
  9. Lacking a Flak 88 or it's later AT equivalent. The out gunned commander will have to rely on manouever and use what assets he does have to accomplish that hard kill on the monster whatever lurking across the field/road/village etc.

The Germans get their Panzerfaust and Panzershrek, the Yanks a Bazooka.

Where pray tell is the PIAT for the Brits and

    Canucks?!

As well as the handy dandy Demo-Charge for those brave squaddies and landsers seeking up close and personal involvement, hmmm... Inquiring staff officers want to know as well as senior NCOs..

    (pardon the poetry)

  10. First Post.

I'm 54. A long time WarGamer, short time computer gamer although I've played CM and CC on and off for a few years. Looking forward to ToW to see if it will live up to it's promise. Hope to see an active and successfull modding community around to enhance and build on what seems to be a great game.

I also enjoy the level of mature discussion here from what I've read as a lurker since last fall.
