  1. Hi all,

Just picked up the Special Edition of CMBB a few days ago and I can already tell this is a special game! Can't believe it took me this long to pick it up...

Thing is I don't mind single-player but I would like to play some multiplayer games with someone who knows their CMBB so I can ask questions. Seems like I could learn things so much faster instead of slogging through this manual in my hand. Plus, you always learn a lot when you get completely thrashed in a match.

    Any takers?

I didn't see anyone say anything about this yet.. but you can get the new E4300 at around $160 and with VERY LITTLE EFFORT overclocking it can basically match a stock X6800 in performance.

The only C2D you should buy right now other than the E4300 is the E6600 for its extra 2MB cache which gives you a slight performance boost with some things. But since you are on a tight budget you can't get better than the E4300 for price/performance.

Someone can explain it better than me, but in my understanding the E4300 FSB is set lower and therefore better suited for you b/c you don't have to spend a lot of money on high performance 1066mhz RAM to get good overclocking results.

Blown off threads are shown (including some nice animations), but like blown-off equipment (shovel, ammo boxes etc) they disappear after some time to not clog up the map.
Is there an option to turn this disappear function off (or modify time)?

    Multiplayer questions:

    1. Will we be able to pick which units we fight with before the fight or are there only set- unit scenarios?

    2. How will players find games? In-game browser or someother way?

    3. Are you able to designate teams for multiplayer? ie 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 1?

    3. Can you pick your 'side' regardless of your enemy's side? ie German vs German (yea I know it doesn't make sense but more freedom is better, almost always)

    4. Are the end stats of the multiplayer games exported at all? If so, what will this include?

    5. Have there been any serious 'shortcuts' or 'gameplay modifications' that have been changed in MP compared to SP?

    6. Will MP be supported in patches as much as SP? (please please please) smile.gif

    7. Will the 'pause' function exist in MP? If so, how will it work?

    8. How many maps will there be for MP?

Thats all I can think of right now. Hope I can get some answers, thanks!

So the game went GOLD (russian version). Shouldn't my questions be relatively easy to answer by now?

Although the game does look wonderful, I think a little more "oomph" in the graphics department would have turned what is probably a wonderful game into an outstanding game. That was all I was saying.

yes is almost always necessary in 'the real world' unless your Publisher is EA, THQ, Ubisoft, etc you get the picture. Point is there will always be sacrifices. If you start a game project with gameplay and realism more important than graphics then the first 'sacrifice' is obvious. Developers do not have unlimited money to do what they want with. And unless you get EA or someone to publish a game with gameplay/realism over graphics (wont happen ever btw) then there is a possibility for un-matched graphics with un-matched gameplay and realism.

Also, the target audience for CM, CC, and (imo a lesser exent b/c the graphics to me look great) ToW are more forgiving in the graphics area b/c they understand this. Like others said this audience on average is older and I would wager more have older computers than the FPS audience.

Medieval Total War 2 demo just came out and doesn't support AMD Athlon, AMD Athlon XP/MP processors. How many people here have one of those? Probably more than you think. With this genre you get less of that crap.

  6. Couple things to remember before you judge..

I believe this game has been in development since early 2002 (or before) and has switched hands at least once.

In a game that puts realism BEFORE eye-candy you can't expect it to have the best graphics. The way you describe the graphics "a bit below-par" is EXACTLY what you should expect from developers that care more about gameplay than graphics. If you expect anything more, your opinion will not be respected by anyone here.

I used to own 3, thought it was ok.

Looks like 2 is on some Abandonware sites so i'll check that out too. One thing, is there a way to see what height a piece of terrain is at?

Yeah well I joined a few weeks ago not to be picky but I rekon 100% hit probability is utter rubbish.

Sure the optics are great but you need to consider the person using it and also the environment. </font>

  9. btw guys I was joking if you didnt catch it. I was mocking WindyCity's degrading attitude by showing that someone could say the same 'clown' crap to him about HIS opinions about HIS perceived 'quality war gaming'. Everyone likes something different...

And noone's saying you can't voice your opinion WindyCity its just you chose to try and degrade someones elses opinion with name-calling and poor attitude, instead of just stating it.

WTF do you know about a quality war gaming, aren’t you the clown that has spent your free time modding Panzers.

hmm afaik Faces of War does this. Just have to tweak the speed and tracers a bit to make it look more realistic.

I dream of soldiers tanker and AT gunners with their own ability to think and resolve a situation properly...maybe even randomly.

then what will you be playing the game for? :D

But man...the coding would have to suck. Wouldn't you think? ;)

kinda sad because all these things are possible with todays hardware, but we won't see them for a while b/c things like those dont even exist on the design list (and are at the very end for games like ToW for which I assume has a smaller budget than most big commercial games)

Ordered list of importance for X new game:

    1. Eye-Candy that suits the masses

    2. Box-Art that suits the masses

    3. Marketing that suits the masses

    4. Game-play that suits the masses (probably a lot lower)

    5. etc..

    bleh

but that makes games that actually try (ToW) that much more special I guess. All this new hype on Physics hardware/software will help push some of your dreams forward faster too. Heres to the Dreamers!! :D

side-note ~ well its very hard to do anything when the nation is split 50-50 and Bush's buddies control both House and Senate (hopefully changing soon -- har har, had to say it) tongue.gif

well I assume you are talking about MP team communication. If so, then wouldn't all communications between commander (you) and your units have to be modelled under this system also if you want to be realistic? This starts sounding more like a battle movie and not a game. Get your popcorn and watch the nice ww2 show! :D

I know you probably didnt mean that severe but then what kind of system are you thinking then? I personally want to have as much control as I can and a good morale system should take care of the rest. Too much 'no control' makes frustrated gamers. ;)

I think the system you invision would make more sense if each player only controlled one squad or other small group.

thats from the German website (babelfish'd), the 8-player thing is interesting.. probably old though.
