  1. For the record, Grogheads.com takes no official position with respect to Battlefront one way or the other. However, our members possess a variety of opinions that we encourage them to express, be they positive or negative. Wargaming is a subject we are all very passionate about obviously, so sometimes, some people have difficulty expressing their views in a rational, calm manner. I know I'm stating the obvious, but I just want to go on record by stating clearly that the opinions expressed in our forums belong to those of the poster.

Personally speaking, I have every CM game ever released. Yes, I've been frustrated with the DRM and licensing and the delays, but it never has, nor will it ever dissuade me from buying a game in the series if it appeals to me. Shock Force 2 is eagerly awaited.

I encourage anyone here who strongly supports CM and Battlefront to hop into our forums and represent. You are all welcome.

  2. That's a bit unfair (no offense meant to Jarhead!) also to say EoS is a modernized version of Empire Enhanced, as I believe the author of the former (Brit) has done the code from zero. This would be like saying it is not normal to pay full price for a WW2 game by 2B3 because Paradox did also a WW2 game (or Hubert Cater to name a dev from Battlefront).

The guy (Brit) surely put several thousands of hours into his code, so (as a dev myself) I particularly understand why the game is charged full price.

Beside... it is really old ugly Empire on steroids: nice graphics, slick interface, WEGO system, LAN/internet play and ladder, Tech tree, one hundred units, modding... just to name a few features. It deserves the full price.

And 45$ is not that much Euros! (tease on you, American friends :) )

I'm on the same page with you Pocus...I agree with everything you state. I know the developer poured his heart and soul into writing this game. However, regardless whether it is an accurate assessment or not, many gamers do and will associate EoS with the Empire games.

I keep hearing people say EoS is a lot different from Empire Deluxe...that it adds a lot of features and plays a lot different. But I don't really see people substantiating these statements. I want to know what is different...what is added...how substantial are the changes? More blank comments devoid of substance by those who are posting in these forums will not sell more copies...Details I say, we need details! It is detailed impressions that will serve Brit best and help get the word out...

  3. I think most people are put off by the price. I know I am...

Regardless of how slick the game looks, it comes across as just a modernized, redone Empire Deluxe. I realize this is most likely not the case but this is how EoS comes across. So, $45 for DD and $55 for hardcopy for a remake of a game that has been available for free for the last 15 years is a tough nut.

I'll also add that a lot of great games have also recently been released...Armada 2526, King Arthur: The RPG, Solium Infernum, etc. So a lot of strategy gamers had to make decisions as to which games to buy and how to spend their money. Some of the other games 1) were released before EoS was available and 2) appear to offer something more unique than EoS does at first blush...

    Just my .02.

To generate more interest, I would suggest some of you who have the game put together some detailed impressions, or post a creative AAR with screenshots.

  4. it is really great. there are a few things that bug me about the game play though, when panzers see an enemy in the distance they seem to want to run off an rush the enemy even when i click hold, and defend they still do not listen. infantry combat is really cool , but lack of cover means your grunts get chewed up pretty quick.. unless you play smart.

also one thing i dont like is the super sniper ai that seem to shoot my infantry from 1000m away with m1 garands and Mg's that is sort of annoying as well.

and multiplayer seems to not be working yet.

other then that this game is one of the better RTS's ive played in a long time.

So let me see if I've got this right...the AI sucks, some of the units are unbalanced and the multiplayer is broken, but you still think, other than that, its the best RTS you've played in a long time? I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, I'm just trying to understand the severity of some of the problems.

  5. I would think anyone who actually served in those Regiments would find a difference between Regiments. My understanding of the British Army is that historically, it revolves around the Regimental system...operationally, is anything different? Perhaps not...but to say there are no differences, is with all due respect, pretty narrow minded. flamingknives, you appear to be English and have a good understanding of the mechanics of the British Army TOE, but I'm quite surprised that you don't believe there are variations between Regiments. For me, if anything, there would be an immersion/authenticity factor associated with the inclusion of specific British Military units.

  6. What is the Infantry OOB going to look like in the British Module for CMSF?

Is the module going to comprise a British force with a set Regimental composition. For mission editing, will there be various Regiments to choose from? Will there be Royal Marine Commandos? Etc. etc.

Sorry if this question has already been asked.

  7. Quite frankly, I do not see how any game dealing with the Pacific Theater cannot have a dedicated Marine unit. US, or Japanese. These are crucial units and they should be modeled. using Special Forces as Marine units is not going to cut it for me.

    This is a deal breaker.

  8. When I try to install the module I get an error message similar to the following during the actual install...

    "

    C:/program files/battlefront/combat mission shock force/cm shock force.exe

An error occurred while trying to copy a file:

    The source file is corrupted"

Then i get the option to skip, ignore, abort. I've tried skipping. The install will continue but upon completion, it doesnt appear to have installed and when I run, SF, its still v. 1.08 and no option to run Marines.

I've tried redownloading the module and deleting and re-installing CMSF. nothing has worked. PLEASE HELP!

  9. I've been keeping my big mouth shut and waiting...and waiting...and waiting. I have the patience level of a flea, but I've been really good this time around! Battlefront, you do realize you're now irritating a bunch of Marines...the meanest, baddest, and filthiest bunch of animals around. Not the wisest PR I've ever seen.

Battlefront, if you don't release this module NOW, I'm coming for you...

My friend, you have no idea...I swear I developed carpal tunnel typing up that report! And I narrowly escaped a vertical envelopment maneuver conducted by my wife, irate over the fact that I was busy in front of the computer on a saturday night. We staff writers at wargamer deserve combat pay!

I had no problem moving infantry through that breach...This is clear from the screen shots...I ordered them to assault those buildings in the barracks complex and they charged right on through. You will notice, however, that I did not order any Strykers through the breach in the wall. When playing other scenarios, I have had difficulty moving armored vehicles through breaches, but since I did not attempt it in this scenario it was not a problem for me.

I am the author...its not a REVIEW, its an After-Action Report, why would you expect details with respect to technical difficulties or bugs? Those observations are for a review, not for an AAR...In any event, I played this scenario and wrote the AAR prior to v.1.02 being released, and I haven't experienced any of the problems you or John Kettler are referring to. The scenario ran smooth and I don't recall coming across any obvious or game stealing bugs.
  13. Hey...I purchased the pre-order special on 7/24/07...On the release day, my download link went active and I've been playing since...GREAT GAME!

But I still have not received the hard copy in the mail...how long is it supposed to take and will I even receive any notice when it ships?

    Thanks

    S/F

  14. Now I'm pissed...I've tried everything suggested to get this stupid license installed all to no avail. I can't even generate an off-line code. The stupid elicense website keeps telling me:

    Error Occured:

Order ID or License Number was not found.

Please check the Order ID or License Number and re-create the request.

What the hell!?!?! I'm following your directions to the letter. This unacceptable.
