Thanks again to all the players, and especially Sly for an unimaginable amount of work in designing & organising the tournament.
I'm pretty amazed I scraped a 4th place, but maybe that's because of the weighting system, and that as a newbie (like 6 months or something) I noticed a definate improvement in my play from the 1st round to the 2nd.
Great experience - many thanks. When are we gonna do it again?..
-
IT'S OVER - YAY! (and BOO... )
Finished the last turn with Mikado. I'm just about to send it in to Sly. Great scenario, although as the Allied attacker, I felt like I was in a stranglehold. A real headache - I loved it!..

I think the fact I got almost my entire infantry force in the town (making *me* the defender) before Gort managed to even probe with one platoon made an infantry battle impossible for him.Originally posted by dinga44:Trust me guys, from a defenders perspective it was VERY hard.
As for his infantry reinforcements - they appeared at the map edge to be instantly surrounded by an entire company and received crossfire from at least 2 Greyhounds. If the Axis re-ups had arrived earlier while I was still trying to kick out his first foothold then I think things would have been more dicey for me.

And yes - great scenario & map. Very enjoyable and a nice change for a ME to not be the usual head-to-head clash, but the opposing forces having a perpendicular advance.

My plan, which went surprisingly smoothly, was to get the infantry into town ASAP using the scattered trees/brush cover as best as I could. 2 Greyhounds I raced down the road to town. 1 died at it's edge, but the other survived to become a pain in the ass to Gort later on
The other 2 I advanced towards the ridge (carrying a .50cal each) but they both got taken out by Axis AC's or HT's in the trees on the high ground eventually.
- I spotted the AT gun & killed it almost immediately with arty.
- The 4 Greyhound reinforcements, I advanced 2 again towards the ridge to hassle Gort's remaining vehicles. The other 2 headed to town using the causeway as cover.
- Gort never managed to gt any vehicles in town, due to unusual accuracy from my advancing Greyhounds hitting them in the side. And my infantry was enough to hold his at bay. He never got a foothold in town except on the extreme edge of the map.

Just sent the orders for turn 31 of 35.
Couple more days guys... Sorry.
(Come on me! Just need to squeeze a win, or even a draw to clinch 2nd place maybe?..)

Aiaiaiaiaiaieeeeeeee, it looks like I'll be Jonny-come-lately then.
-
7 turns left for me & Mikado (I put my hand up to the delay, sorry) It's gonna be an interesting finish but he's got me in a vice...
Hopefully won't be much more than 1 week.
-
Sorry. ....zip.

Really - are you playing Allies? Because it seems to be loaded in the Allies favour...Originally posted by Bert Hamoen:Scenario F (very unfair: Dinga just got some reinforcements; like he did need any ! I have to suffer this one a few turns more.): turn 22 (from 30).

My last game (scenario D) is on turn 23/35.
Just need a about 5 more FO's for smoke & some platoons of fast armour & I'll be victorious...

Can't see how in 'real-life'...

Haven't been playing CM long enough to know how or if it could happen in-game though. The 13.(Tiger) Kompanie, of Panzer Regiment Großdeutschland, reported on the armor protection of the Tiger: "During a scouting patrol two Tigers encountered about 20 Russian tanks on their front, while additional Russian tanks attacked from behind. A battle developed in which the armor and weapons of the Tiger were extraordinarily successful. Both Tigers were hit (mainly by 76.2 mm armor-piercing shells) 10 or more times at ranges from 500 to 1,000 meters. The armor held up all around. Not a single round penetrated through the armor. Also hits in the running gear, in which the suspension arms were torn away, did not immobilize the Tiger. While 76.2 mm anti-tank shells continuously struck outside the armor, on the inside, undisturbed, the commander, gunner, and loader selected targets, aimed, and fired. The end result was 10 enemy tanks knocked out by two Tigers within 15 minutes" (JENTZ, Thomas L.; Germany's TIGER Tanks - Tiger I and II: Combat Tactics; op. cit.). -
Hi Sly,
Mikado & I are on turn 18 of 35 in Scenario-D. I'll try my best to make the deadline but it'll be an uphill struggle - much like my attack
Both other scenarios are finished.
-
Mikado - have you received my latest?
-
Now finished E & F...
Just got that (literally) uphill struggle against Mikado to finish. He's taking me apart...
-
Will have a look. I've enjoyed Slysniper's 'Out Of The Dust' tourney so far. Definately a good way to experience CM...
-
Just about to finish Scenario-E with Walker.
About 2/3rds thru with Gort on Scenario-F.
A bit behind (round 17 I think) with Mikado on Scenario-D...
-
Yes, I have. Sorry Gort - got a lot on right now. Will try to get back to you today...Originally posted by Gort:Jonny, are you receiving the file I've been sending?
I tried again tonight. Let me know if there is a problem.
-
Jonny, please let him know that I need that file from him, maybe he is not getting my emails, I would appreciate your efforts </font>Originally posted by slysniper:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr /> Yep, he sent me his latest turn on the 4th Jan...

Yep, he sent me his latest turn on the 4th Jan...Originally posted by slysniper:I know that Fiaros games for shellshocked and Bert
have been taken over now by McCobbler, you should have been contacted by him since he informed me he sent out the next moves last night. I still have heard nothing from Mikado, he also has a game with fiaros, I need him to get me the game file so he can also proceed. has anyone heard from him in awhile.
-
Speaking of which, Walker - where's the file you owe me?...Originally posted by Walker:If Bert is right, a short 'sorry, but...' mail from Mikado would have been in order.
-
Mikado is back on - he has had ISP problems.
I expect his other 2 opponents have received files too...
-
Mikado - did you receive my latest file? I re-sent it yesterday...
-
1) Not sure
2) Not sure
3) I'm guessing it has more to do with game balance than simulating numbers of tanks available on the battlefield
4) 'Withdraw' differs from 'Fast' or 'Move' in that: you can only withdraw back towards your starting axis, it has no command delay (unit starts running immediately) & inflicts a higher chance of the unit panicking or routing

Can't believe I'm the first to answer AGAIN?? Havent been on the board for a while as have been without a computer (and pretty much a place to live) for the last couple of months.
Sly - I'm more than happy to put my name down for another tourney. Might be another month or so til I'm Pc'ed up again though...
