  1. I have more money in computer games than I will admit to. Yet this demo of EoS has me hooked! I love this game and I can't wait for the final release. This is the type of game I have been waiting years for. If you had Pre-Order I would have bought it by now. Thanks!

PS: A lot of that computer game money has gone to Battlefront too... ;)

  2. pzgndr: Excellent explanation. Thank you very much. Now it all is making sense. I have been playing this series off and on, and I own all of them including the expansions. SC1, SC2, WaW, Patton, and SC3 Pacific. When I finally used Operate and also read about it in the manual, I was baffled. I had previously used Operate but never noticed the morale hit. Again, I was not paying attention to detail like I should.

I will check out the events for changing this to a lower point if it becomes bothersome. However, now that it makes more sense, I may just leave it alone.

    Thanks to both replies! :)

  3. What is the reasoning behind losing 25% or more morale when using Operate to move? It already costs MPP units to do so. I don't understand why using a train or pavement would cost such high morale points?

I have tried to figure out what the ramifications would be in a non-fictional situation and using a train or pavement seems like it would boost a troops morale if anything.

    Please explain.

  4. Excellent! I'm really in no hurry, just curious. I bought the full package so I am not held up in playing. I just did not want to print out any of the manual since the physical one will be coming soon.

Blashy: Yes I have the download. I learned the hard way a long time ago... don't save a buck by just buying the physical copy. Otherwise I go crazy with waiting to play! ;-))

    Thanks to both of you.

  5. Hey Larry.

Have fun, once you get the basics of SC2/WaW/PDE down it's a real blast! And the AI is a booty kicker for sure!

Hey AZ! I keep getting found over here. Well you caught me. I bought SC2 and both expansions and I have been trying to learn how to play this game without getting creamed every time. So far it's not happening, but I am also playing as Axis.

I liked SC2 so much I bought SC1 and enjoy that too. Also have Tacops4 and all Combat Missions (4). All great games! However I'm tired of getting beat in SC2. :(

  6. Ah, if you are playing with FoW off then all bets are off as the AI can see just as much as you can :)

    Happy gaming

    Hubert

I should have stated that at the start, but I goofed. I'm sorry. Well, it's my fault again like usual.

So when playing with FoW off, silent mode only causes the sub to NOT hunt then. Not to be silent as far as being found. OK. Now I got it. I will start over with FoW on. ;)

  7. For a simple test, and anyone can repeat this, under WaW I played Fall Weiss and moved the at start German sub in the North Atlantic to tile 51,13 (which is away from the Convoy lanes) while in Hunt mode. Played several turns and sure enough it was never attacked. I then switched to Silent mode and moved it to tile 51,11 which is directly on the Canadian convoy lane and it was not attacked playing through several more turns. I then switched back to Hunt mode and sat in position and it was eventually attacked by the expected Destroyers.

    Hope this helps,

    Hubert

    Hubert;

Thanks for the detailed reply. I printed out all you said and I will try what you said. Maybe a big difference is that I have also been playing with FoW off? I am trying to learn this game and having FoW off I thought may help me see what is going on more. Maybe that's the wrong thing to do?

I have a lot of war games, most from Matrix but quite a few from Battlefront, but I have never really sat down and tried to learn SC2 until now. It's very different from what I am used to. It's much harder than I thought, even on the easiest level.

Any tips would sure be appreciated. Yes I have read most of the manual. :P

  8. It still seems like a broken option. No matter how I use silent mode, the enemy ships zero right in on me and I'm dead every time. Every enemy type ship and not just destroyers. As a matter of fact, subs in this game almost seem worthless.

I have a German sub off the coast of Canada and I have it in silent mode. Next turn the British ships zero right in on it and even when it dives, it's destroyed. The only place I can have subs last is in port.

    Thank you for your reply.

  9. I have played SC2 Blitzkrieg and the Weapons & Warfare expansion and in both games my subs in silent mode got sunk. I mean the British went right over to them and sunk them. Whether in silent mode or attack, it made no difference?!

When I had them in attack mode, the British ships came right over to them and pounded them. So I put them in silent mode and scooted off as far as my allowable hex travel would allow. Next turn, the Brits went right to them and sunk them.

    Is this feature broken?

  10. Errr...can anyone send me my mod? jbunnelle7__at__yahoo.com. Long gone from a harddrive crash from ages ago. Glad to hear it's still floating about. Just reinstalling this great game.

Finally hear from you. I tried to email you through Matrix but it was a dead link. If you get your mod back, can I get it from you?

    Thanks! :D

  11. Thanks for the reply Sea Monkey as it was a thoughtful response....I do not look at it as a regression. Remember, that there might be people who stumble on RTW without even knowing SCWAW even exists, and if they enter the wargaming community through that door, then that's great..in time, they may find SCWAW and have a new way to experience a strategic WWII game, and be all the better for it.

The portal through which someone enters wargaming can come from any direction, and while some may want all roads to lead to SCWAW, a sign post like RTW, can be a good guide.....

I'm not taking sides here, but I want to say that I really admire the way you think along these lines of gaming. Games are like women. Everyone sees them differently. Some like their women heavy, others like them slim. Shapely or not so much. Same with gaming. Each gamer has their own liking and no game is better than another just because some say it is.

I have about 80 games installed on my main PC and another 75+ in boxes. I have owned maybe 250-300 games since the 1980's. I never know what I will feel like playing one week so it is a good thing I have a wide variety.

As far as Battlefront games, I own all of the Combat Mission series, SC1, and SC2 with both expansions. I also have over 30 games from Matrix. I enjoy all of them at one time or another but they are always there when I want them and in variety. ;)

  12. Sorry Larry, SC1 has long left my hard drive eons ago.

But you know where jbunnelle is posting, you're in the right thread over at matrix, perhaps he still has those gems stored.

So Larry...are you playing RtV? Seems to be a very rough cut of SC, but maybe in about 5 years it'll get somewhere close to where SC2 is now.

Course by then, Hubert will have moved ole SC down the road another quantum leap.

Might as well "smell the coffee" this is where strategic gaming is at and likely to be in the future. So why are you messing with SC1?

I tried the SC1 demo last night after reading so many posts about comparing it to RtV. I wondered how it played. I liked it and bought it. I don't really like SC2 better either. Not yet at least.

I also left a post at Matrix in that same thread so maybe jbunnelle will answer it.

Yes I'm playing RtV and like it a lot. It's catchy little game that plays well.

I also have SC2 and both expansions. I play it some but there are a few things I don't like about it. One of them is I wish Battlefront would incorporate ToolTips in their games. The rest don't really matter so I will shut up. :o
