OK- just installed latest (Jan 15, 2008) catylyst driver set and can now open and run the demo. Although my mouse doesn't seem to be working very reliably now. But Ill see how that goes.

So can anyone tell me if there some kind of newbie scenarios for CMBB, which lead me from the basics to advanced skill level?

Right now I’am happy like a child on christmas, when I destroy an enemy unit :D

    Thank you for your help.

JasonC put together a set of tutorial scenarios to show how to use Russain forces in the game. Some of them are hard to win, but play through them, then read the discussions on the forum about them and play again. I played a few of them many times before being able to do what was described. I think they helped me understand some things, though they haven't improved my armor game at all, they have helped with my infantry game.

    That's why I bumped it.

As for your question, about "die roll macros"? I am not sure what your question is. Sorry.

I was mainly wondering how to use the spreadsheet, if I didnt have the toolbar button for rolling the dice, but I see that I do have the macros, and I can simply run the die rolls from the menu if I need to roll them.

    Thanks,

    Rick

  5. OK, first question on the ROQC campaign generator. I'm using Office 97 (Excell 97) for the worksheet. However on page 13 of ruleset, it indicates there is a customized toolbar named ROQC (which contains access to two die rolll macros.

This does not appear on in my spreadsheet.

I tried double clicking and left clicking. I did get the menu showing the available toolbars, but ROQC was not listed.

Any suggestions? Or can I do this without this toolbar?

    Thanks,

    Rick

    Blazing,

Not sure why you bumped this thread, but thanks anyway. I'm relatively new to CMBB but the idea of campaign is always a draw for me.

I've gone to the Robert Olesen site (quick campaign), and I've downloaded the info there. (spreadsheet, rules, campaigns, and maps).

I skimmed over the rules, and will read them in more detail later. Sounds like a pretty neat idea though, and it looks like it took quite a lot of work to put together. Do you know if ROQC's is still being supported by Robert (or anyone else).

In any event, thanks for bumping the post, else I never would have seen it.

Thanks and hopefully we will get some info soon.

Havent heard anything from him yet, I'm not really expecting to at this point. Shame, I really wish CMBB covered the 1939 Polish Campaign.

I jump about from bit to bit, to keep my brain fresh, but it's all getting there.

One of the intentions, when it's done, is that even a total noob will be able to participate. I like stuff written for me as if I'm a total moron, it makes things so much easier, and I try to extend the same consideration to others. There's nothing worse than reading instructions written by somebody who has clearly assumed you already understand half of everything before reading the first sentence.

And not every commander was born with command experience. ;)

Currently I'm working on complexifying (I don't think that's a word...so much for being easily understood) the resolution of combat on the strategic map. Basically it'll depend on how good your win was as to how far up the next CMBB map you'll start, how many flags you'll already have behind your line, etc. I'm quite excited about it actually, because the game-play ramifications, when tied in with a bunch of other components, are pretty slick.

The entire affair is about bringing the individual CMBB combats to life, in more ways than the purely physical. Tying them to an external strategic map, in a meaningful way, has huge psychological impact (guess why CMC is going to be so popular!).

    Anyway, I'm going on.

Both my site and forum are down at the moment, my host has transfered everything to a Linux box (to hopefully fix the forum email problem), and they said it'll be a few hours before everything comes back online.

Thanks for your interest guys. smile.gif

Sounds good, maybe by the time youre all the way ready, ill have a little more experience.

I've found a handful of sites, most without even a rudimentary forum, some with pages that were last updated years ago...what's the deal? I thought the CM series was where turn-based tac was at. Instead it appears to be tumble-weed central. I thought the flight-sim community was moribund, but this experience is setting a new standard! :(

I'm a fairly new player of CMBB. I looked at your site yesterday, and have read most of your posts here. but I couldnt find info on how to actually play the war you described. I decided I was probably too much of a newbie to particaipate, since I didn't really understand just how it would work.

I actually came in today, and was going to post some questions about it.

One thing I think I sorted out was that the play would "live", rather than PBEM. I'm sufficiently new to the game that I dont know how to do either of those.

So maybe there are more out here than you realize.

I also read through the forum you set up. Another forum of course it the Strategy Zone online forum that also seems to be somewhat active.

THanks for that link. I posted a note in that thread and emailed patboy as well.

  11. Just finished Russian Trg. Scenario 112. I made the mistake of not calling for artillery until I saw the trench appear. this was turn 7 or so. The delay indicated for the spotter was 23 minutes. Needless to say, I had to go it without artillery support.

It actually turned out ok. I suppressed with HMG on the trench, along with mortar on the trench. When I recieved flanking fire from machine, I switched morter to area fire at the sounds.

knocked out or routed most of the German Platoon around T15-T18, MG was pinned by then. Rushed trench on T19-T20. Won on T20.

After I finished the scenario I went back and re-read the artillery scection in the manual. Needless to say, I hadn't quite absorbed it the first time I read it, but now I think I understand.

Question - Is the delay a constant value for a given combination of spotter experience, organization level of artillery, and los? i.e. does a Russian conscript calling corp level artillery on a los site target always have the same delay?

Follow-up question, is a listing of these delays available anywhere?

    Thanks,

    Rick

  12. Jason, or others,

In one of your posts about RusTrain111, you mention being able to transfer a squad from one platoon to another, 'if you use the Co. HQ correctly".

I've read the manual, but didn't find anything in it about trying to transfer a squad to another command, other than a reference to a Co. commander being able to take command of a squad if the platton leader is killed.

On a related matter, I'm trying to locate an electronic copy of the CMBB manual, since I have a CDV version with no PDF anywhere. I'm looking for electronic copy so I can look these things up easier for myself.

I did start the 111 trg exercise, but apparently I didnt learn my lesson very well in 110, I'm getting hosed pretty much and its t17 and I still only have sound contacts.

    Thanks again.

    Simple as that.

    Bonxa,

I've rechecked my CMBB directory, it does not have a PDF manual. It has a readme, that listes what is on both CD's, but doesn't mention a manual. I've also checked the sub-directories and no luck there eitehr.

The boxed version of CMBB I have came with v1.03 of CMBB along with a 2nd CD of mods.

Perhaps this version didn't come with a pdf manual?

    Thanks,

    Rick

  14. I saw a reference in the the large thread on CMBB to a copy of the CMBB manual in pdf format. It said this was on the CD.

I have the CMBB special edition version, and can not find a pdf manual in either of the CD's. I do have the hard copy manual, but I would still like a pdf version. Does anyone know where one might be found?

    Thanks,

    Rick

  15. Well finally success

I finally got a win on RusTrain110, with straight all green, no leader bonus. THe win came on turn 17.

Now on to some other training scenarios. This struggle did give me a chance to finish reading the manual, at least up to the Editor Section.

I'll do some reading in that section as well. I've already dug out my old Squad Leader and Squad leader modules, and I'll probably play around with some of those short battles.

    Rick

  16. Folks,

Well call me stubborn, I've been stuck on 110 for several days. Yesterday I went in and edited the scenario, I made all 4 squads regulars, l;eft the leader green but gave him a +1 boost for all morale, combat, command, and stealth.

Went in and played scenario and won it handily in 15 turns.

I then edited to set squads back to green, leaving all leadership mods as +1. Again, pretty straight forward win around turn 15.

I next left units as greeen but only gave leader a +1 for morale and command, won this one on turn 13.

By this point I was feeling better, I edited again, and dropped the command bonus leaving me with 4 green squads and a green leader with a +1 morale bonus. Back to losing now. But I'll give this one another shot, and if it doesn pan out, I'll add in the command bonus, and take out the morale bonus.

Thanks for all of the play tips I've seen posted here, If I evert get around to playing by PBEM, it looks like I'll like fish in a barrel.

    Thanks

    Rick

  17. Well,

I've started this boot camp a little later than most of you, just got the game for Christmas. I had no problems with first three scenarios, but I've been totally defeated on 110 four times now.

From one of Jasons suggestions, I've just gone in and adjusted units to regular and added +1 to platton leader command and morale. I'll see what that does and try again. If I hadn't read here that a number of you have made it through this one, I'd probably just give it up as unwinnable, but that's clearly not the case.

That's one great thing about this training series.

One question, a number of you talk about moving in 10-20 meter "jumps" with I'm not sure I understand the mechanics of how this is done. I've been setting up movement with 3 or 4 waypoints from the start line to the shell holes. I got two units to stop by inserting pauses while the other units kept going, then I would pause them. apparently this isn't the correct way to advance?

    Thanks again Jason.

    Rick

  18. Jason,

I see that your training scenarios are very popular. I tried the 110 lesson this morning. I was recieved a total. I advanced one squad to houses on right, by bounds, one squad up to shell hole in center and one to house on left.

The only contact I had with enemy was by sound. He broke and routed my entire platoon. I'm going to give it another shot and see if I can improve. I tried doing some area fire, to try and suppress, but all I accomplished was to run one of my squads out of ammo.

By the way, I noticed that the name on the battle was RusTRain200 while playing, rather than 110, which is what I loaded.

    Thanks again,

    Rick
