  1. Zanadu, that is actually a seperate issue. In your case the game actually completes and you get credit for all your kills, etc, and your other pilots have their fatigue reduced. The only thing that doesn't happen is the 'score' screen doesn't show up at the end of the mission. I've had a few of those here and there as well, but they are nowhere near as bad as losing kills to a game that never completes but still having to eat the fatigue.

  2. "Strato-matic lost me as a customer with their intrusive copy protection methods. And yes, I pre-orderded DIF."

That's a shame, because it really did turn out to be much better than the previous floppy based authorization, despite all the paranoia. Also, Stalin is correct, it is an authorization system, not a copy protect. I actually think this would work very well for DiF, especially since I suspect it could be added with an upgrade. What would lose me as a customer would be paying a yearly fee to play a game I already bought.

  3. Not sure if this would be feasible or not...

Don't know if anyone is familiar with Strat-o-matic, but I play their football and baseball PC games. They recently went to a new internet based authorization system that still allows you to play w/out the CD in drive. Basically you get a code with your game, the first time you launch it you have to type in your code and send it to the server where you are allowed 1 activation. An authorization file is placed on your hard drive from the server at that point. It stays there and you never worry about it again, unless you are getting a new PC or something at which time you can deactivate your code on the server (which sends your authorization file back) and move to another PC and input your code there, which retrieves you authorization to that computer. There needs to be a system in place to reset the authorizations for people who have a hard drive crash, etc, but that's about all. Perhaps the need for an authorization file could be added as an update, and battlefront could email a code to everyone who got the game from them. I guess if there are retail versions out there maybe they could send a proof of purchase of some sort in exchange for a code. Just an idea, but it seems to work well for Strat. I may be off on some of the specifics of how it all works, but that's the gist of it.

  4. Very cool. Just FYI, I went to the Plane Data page on the DiF Battlefront page to check the stats on the new plane. Not there yet, no big deal, but wanted to let you know that clicking the Brits under the Free Downloadable Planes section links you to the Japan page. Seems to be no way to view the Buffalo at present. No big deal, just thought I'd let you know.

  5. I've had a couple of guys shot down tonight without ED and they bailed successfully. I can't seem to buy a medal for anything though. Could be my flying skills, but I'd rather blame it on the randomizer failing to award me any. smile.gif

  6. Just flew a dogfight where neither my leader or wing had an ED before the mission. My leader was shot down but ejected safely, my wing completed the mission unscathed. After the mission the leader received his ED back but the wing did not. I didn't think you could earn back an ED on a mission in which you were shot down, correct?

  7. Just an FYI...

Not sure how the matchups for 2v2 are determined, but it could maybe use a little tweaking. Earlier today I was in one where myself and one other player were both in the high 200s, and the other guys were a 500ish and a 600ish. We were matched up as the 2 200s against the 500 and 600. Got a little ugly, probably would have been more interesting if the teams were balanced better.

  8. Anybody think this would be a possibility? I'm of course guessing that MNB will have campaigns, but I expect it will. It would be cool to play for example a Midway campaign using both games, resolving all Naval action in MNB and launching aircraft from your carriers whose actions would be resolved in DiF, then keeping a cumulative score for the campaign. Just throwing it out there because I'm still at work and would rather be home playing. There's only so many times you can go on the site and look at your pilots in one shift, it's not like they are going to change or anything.

  9. "I hope it wasn't really a graphic of a bailed out pilot being shot up - that's a bit brutal for my tastes!!"

No, it just shows an enemy plane cruising past your chute. Let me tell you, it gets your heart pounding though! I didn't realize you will still survive if you have an ED, thought I was goners. Apparently ED still saves you from target pilot, I thought target pilot cancelled the ED. Phew!

  10. Sorry to be so long winded...

Should have added to my last post that I also don't think it necessary to provide extra awards as an incentive to play against humans. The fun is incentive in itself. To an extent I think there is some of the junior high dance mentality out there, no one wants to be the first to ask for a game. As more people do and try it out, it will take off I think.
