  1. I'm another 'surprised when logging in on Monday morning' guy. So many posts in so short a time! The near-future setting is certainly a bit of a shock, too! The screenshots look great, and it will almost certainly sell well if it brings the series up to date, regardless of setting, but, alas, it is not for me. I can't muster up any enthusiasm for the subject matter, and I know virtually nothing about, and have very little interest in, modern arms, armour or warfare - let alone a fictional 'near-future' conflict.

I'm obviously in a different camp to many of you who play games for the tactical and strategic challenges, regardless of setting. Personally, I have passed on many games that are apparently excellent, because the setting doesn't appeal. But if they are Napoleonic or WWII, I'll probably give them a shot.

Actually, not having another brilliant game from BFC for a time will probably be a good thing, as the others have kept me glued to my PC for far too many late nights / early mornings already! Anyway, I hope the game does well (and I believe it will) and have just one question.... when can we expect to see the WWII game? :D

  2. I agree with much of what others have said about the appeal of WWII. The availability of film footage, personal accounts and documents; the relatively black and white, Good versus Evil morality; the coolness of the German uniforms and hardware - all contribute to the fascination with the period.

From a personal point of view, my mum was in the BDM and I had an uncle in the SS - as a cook! - and another who was on the staff of von Paulus in the Russian campaign.

In retrospect, CMBB and the other CMx1 games were ridiculously cheap for the value delivered, and for the amount of research and development that Battlefront put into them. I am still playing CMBB several years later and still have not experimented with all of the units, etc. It is like a car company selling a car for $500 that you can drive for 2 million miles.

The bottom line is that the market for this type of game is relatively tiny, and if you sell one game that people in this market will play for five years for $35, you're not going to be around to develop many more games like that. You can call it greedy if you want, but I am pretty damn glad that Battlefront is bothering to develop these games at all and hope that they can earn at least a little $$ for their (unappreciated) efforts.

I think that this is probably the best post I've seen on the whole forum! smile.gif

Heck, I'm still playing CMBO (and the demo's of BB and AK), and am still enjoying it immensely. There is still nothing like it on the market, even in production or on the far horizon.

So even if CMx2 were just CMx1 with much improved graphics and a few 'minor' changes (and I know it's not) I'd be rushing out to buy it straight away. Hurrah for Battlefront, I say. :D

Eh?? Surely most computer games of any sort are played solo more than multiplayer, let alone PBEM. That's the primary point for the majority of gamers - a ready opponent.

PS. Massive potential in a modern setting for making Battlefront lots of dosh. If they get a modern setting right they could attract large numbers of more casual gamers. Their $50 is worth just as much at that of Battlefront’s more hard-core fans such as us ;) .

Eh, no. WW2 is guaranteeably (???) less risky choice than some post-WW2 or fictional conflict. Just look at how much money SPR and BoB brought to Spielberg & Co. </font>

We plan on announcing the subject matter for the 1st and 2nd CMx2 games in a few weeks. Screen shots and other visual materials will accompany the announcement.

That sounds pretty tough! So a good system now will only meet the minimum specs for the game when it is released?!?

Or is your reply just poorly worded...? ;)
