  1. good advice given above.one or two other tips.....

when you say it shuts down, are you getting a black screen with a warning bleep ?

the motherboard on most pc's has a pre set shut down temperature to prevent heat damage.relevant factors are ambient temperature, dirt and quality of cooling.here in england we have just had some unseasonal hot weather with temps hitting 37C.my cpu peaked at 52C one evening where it usually runs at around 37-40C.

dirt is a big factor, you may need to remove the side panel of your pc case and clean the dirt from your cpu heatsink.if you have not done this for a few months then it will make a difference.although before you do this its wise to ground yourself.

if the problem persists i would recommend additional case cooling.i have three case fans making my case like a wind tunnel.makes a difference especially if the pc sits in a warm environment.

  2. a few weeks back KG_Thorshammer posted asking for testers for a mini campaign he had put together.i responded and he sent me out a superbly well thought out and detailed briefing on not only the first battle but also profiles on all the unit commanders.

the battles put you in charge of a german kampfgruppe cut off behind the soviet lines in austria.the kampfgruppe consists of a variety of AFV's and multinational units.each battle is an attempt to breakthrough to your own lines and inflict significant damage on the soviets.

what makes this series is that the final autosave is sent back to thor and he deducts my losses so that i begin the next battle with a reduced force.really makes you think before commiting units because when they are gone they are gone!

the battles vary in scope but not in intensity.considerable thought has gone into this project and i would like to publically thank thorshammer for creating this excellent series and allowing me to play it.

  3. one thing that never ceases to amuse me is the randomness of mine clearing.as shmavis commented, sometimes engineer squads will sit looking at a minefield with no other unit in close proximity and ignore it.other times an engineer squad, being micromanaged, with a complex movement order to reach a minefield will toss its last charge at another minefield it is passing when you have already detailed that minefields destruction to another squad.

i've even seen engineers that are cautious and crawling away from an arty ranging shot throw their charge and clear a mine.

with regard to the proximity of other units,i've only had a problem with casulties from the charge blast when the engineer squad has been ordered to target the minefield.

  4. interesting that someone else is working on this battle.i recently put an operation on TPG based on ken touts books.he wrote four that cover this action.

i designed my map from the sketches and terrain description given in kens books.my old eyes cant make out too much from aerial photos but i know that many of what appear to be roads and dirt tracks were created overnight during totalise by literally hundreds of AFV's driving in column formation.

please dont get me wrong,i'm not for one moment suggesting that my map is correct and the other wrong.tbh i feel that the others are superior to mine.i just went with the information i had.

i also read somewhere that the poles,canadians,RAC,1 NY and the RAF all laid claim to taking out wittmanns tiger ! i guess i'll have to play your scenario to find out !

just read through the old cmbo thread linked above and it jogged my memory.

cant remember where/how i picked this snipet up but an eyewitness claimed that the tigers knocked out in that area were hit repeatedly by typhoons after their demise.

  5. i played this scenario shortly after buying cmbb soon after it hit the shops.although its ridiculously easy to achieve a major victory as axis i never saw it as anything other than a training scenario.as was mentioned earlier,if you tuck the panthers behind the ridge and wait til the soviets enter the killing zone you learn the basics of terrain use.

playing as allied it is tough as it obviously was not intended to be played that way.
