  1. I think it's a great idea - there hasn't been a good all around Civil War game since "Age of Rifles".

The Talonsoft games really sucked (one way or another) and the ones being put out now by the History Channel are garbage- they're unplayable.

If somebody would apply themselves to doing it, they could come up with a really excellent job of it and it would be great. Something people would marvel over at E3.

I think we have a unique community in CM. (If you stay out of peng and waffle threads, but that is unique in itself.) I don't remember anything like TPG or some features of TSD.

We are lucky and better for it. [/QB]

All this what you say is so true.

I don't post here often but I do try come and read on a somewhat regular basis... an attempt to "keep in touch". That said, I have signed up at TSD just so I could leave some reviews, (there are some awesome scenarios there) but due to time constraints have never done so. Reviews or not though, I noticed that some scenario authors/designers have literally thousands of downloads.... I think that says something. Just to have your work downloaded that many times would be a great compliment, I think. Humans are pesky though, if something is free and they like it, enjoy it, they'll talk about it to their friends but never compliment the designer, whereas if they find bugs or want to argue historic point or perspective or complain, they can't wait to make contact and cry about something they got for free.

Great games, community and forum. People who ain't a part, just don't know.

  3. Years ago, I got introduced to "Squad Leader" and it knocked me out....I couldn't believe there was actually somebody 'out there' who made the perfect game.... Later I read somewhere that "it was easier to find true love than to find a fellow wargamer" - that was about right. While it may not be everyones thing, those of us are out here and we think too much to ever be the majority. I too, have tried to introduce a few people to CMBB/CMAK but I only get strange looks and condescending smiles, usually. Those who do seem interested get put off that the graphics aren't "Doom 3" or "Counterstrike". (Don't get me wrong, I still have "Quake Arena" and "Unreal" loaded on my machine and play every couple days, but since I got CM.....well, I really can't get interested in any other so-called wargames.) That game "Blitzkreig" really blew, although the graphics were really nice.

I too, never post here and only sometimes visit the forum and have never played a CM game against another human (too anti-social/introverted) but at least its nice to know there are others out there.

My hat is off to those who made, produced, tested and manufacture CM....and also to those over at Der Kessel and the Scenario Depot who continue to make great scenarios to add to these games and to really bring value to them.

  4. What has been interesting me lately is the Imperial Japanese Army in China. There are no good games including the Japanese. In fact it's really hard to find good source material or history books about their campaigns. Can you imagine playing like CM

and being on the receiving end of a Japanese charge ?? It'd had to be terrifying. You know, other than the inherent racism - they were damned good soldiers.
