Don't be silly.... the game will be out at somepoint, so we'll all have to find other things to do with our time. Like working? Reading? Seeing friends???? Keep your chin up!
  2. I've read that it was used for indirect fire. In fact, in Spike Milligans war memoirs, he recalls a specific event when he first experienced being shelled indirectly by 88s in Tunisia. He even states that they were the worst guns to be shelled by because you couldn't hear the shell coming!

I think the book this is in is: Rommel? Gunner Who?...

Anyone who has been around here for a while has seen more horse and civilian threads than you can imagine. This one seems to have degenerated faster than usual, likely because a number of people (MikeyD and junk2 drive) have the same idea I did and are subtly encouraging the silliness. The designers have said a number of times that horses and civilians are really tough to code and add very little to the combat simulation.

    I think it started fairly silly.... I didn't mis-spell bullocks! :D

The great thing about earth is you can make it any shape you want! I'm pretty sure it is not beyond human means to dig a hole big enough for the whole gun, and have a good access to the breach... a good reason for this would be protection from having your swonnicles blown off by HE rounds!

All websites I can find about the 88, just say the ROF is 15-20 per min, bt fail to note in which role! grrrr!

If the gun is aimed at ground targets it is clearly visible how high above the ground the breech is. I would not like to be the one shoving the rounds in at that tempo at that angle.

Actually if the gun is dug in the breech can be as high or low as you like. Sometimes dug in 88s would have their barrels only a foot or two above the ground. I'm going see if I can work out the ROF in game, and check the net for sources on 88s!
  6. I am currently reading a book by Barrie Pitt, on the North African battles... in this book is a little diagram of a German 88, and in the specs for it, it says the rate of fire is 15/20 per min! I can't say I've ever seen an 88 in CM fire anything, like that much! What gives????

  7. I find halftracks pretty useful in-game. I tend to use them to take a platoon of men to a good defensive postition, then as sort of mobile machine gun posts... of course they don't always last too long...

In fact I'm using them to great effect in a PBEM game at the moment... managed to ferry two platoons of SS onto an objective, using just three half tracks and a kubelwagon! Not sure I would ever buy more transport than that though...

  8. Playing Tottensontag two player pbem is pretty cool...

I'm playing it with Tooz right now.. I think we are about half way through, and it has been the most interesting battle i've ever had... so many tactical options! I think we might attempt to do a joint AAR for it... but it will be bloody long, and there have been three or four separate battles within the battle!

    Anyone else played that one?
