  1. Hmmm....

I've got a dual-core Intel iMac, 21.6 GHz processing speed, and have tried to run the demo on the Windows side of my computer with Windows XP... it wasn't pretty.

So, what kind of settings should I set everything to so that there's no "flashing" (such as when troops are mounted in a Stryker, for example), the mouse doesn't flash over the battlefield whenever I want to zoom a little, etc.

I dunno, I just know that when I tried to play the training scenario, it ... I might have to wait for the Mac version (but maybe not.)

    Any advice?

  2. I know, I know, I haven't posted in ages, but...

What will the system requirements be like? I know it's great to include so much detail and such, to have such fine graphics, but how powerful a machine will be needed in order to run the game? I'm wondering because I've got a 1.6mHz, 768 MB iMac and given the tendancy for game designers to design for the highest, most powerful top-end models out there, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to play CM again. (My iMac is MacOSX native, so I can't play CMBO (whose CD seems to be lost) or CMAK.) Having enjoyed CMBO and AK immensely on my old System 9-native iMac, I'd much like to be able to play the game you are now designing.

    God bless,

  3. Recently, a problem has arisen in my playing of Combat Mission. This week, I had to restart my computer and re-install Mac OS 9 onto my iMac. When I did so, I tried out Combat Mission (both CMBO and AK), everything worked fine, except all the 3D-screen text is black!

What do I mean by this. I'll show you. First, look at this screenshot. See how all the text is colored ("SETUP PHASE": yellow. "TIP, etc": white. "100%", "-", "25%", "0%": white. "July 1943, Mid Day": white. "Citadel Schwerpunkt": white). Now, if that screenshot had been on my Mac after I "restored" the hard drive, than all the aforementioned text would be black. Yep. That's right. Black. With the dark texture of the menu, and the "shadows" of the text intending to make the white and yellow text appear sharper make the black text even more hard to read. Not to mention the black outline of "landmark" text. Can anyone please help me?

    God bless,

  4. Well, there are a few things CMBO as over CMAK...

    1. Pershings. :D

    2. DD's uniform mods. smile.gif

    3. Little US flags on the US paratroopers. ;)

    4. The original Data files readily accessible on the CD, so you don't have to reinstall the whole game once you want to revert from a mod to the original stuff.

Other than that, CMAK is a better game. smile.gif

    God bless,

  5. Well, some things I'd like to see...

*More multi-tile buildings. I hate making a "big buidling" of of many buildings, than forced to watch my men "leave" one section of the building and go to the other because the two sections are technically different buildings!

*Put howitzers for all land-based available howitzers! If I can get off-screen artillery up to 240mm, then I should get on-screen howizers up to that caliber as well (ships are, of course, a different story).

*Western Europe theater vehicles and units, just so I can do a hypothetical "US/Brit & co. attack on Berlin" scenario. smile.gif

*Ability to customize the weapons of my infantry units. While this could be abused so that some n00b would make a "Fast" squad full of MG42s, I think it would be a great feature- what if you had a squad with M1s and Brens?

And of course, no "What to do in CMX2" thread would be complete without something like...

OMG teh neXt cOmbat Mishun should look liek this! ;)

    God bless,

    NO!!!

    As a cash-strapped college student with a 500-mHz iMac, I say NO!

  7. Well, I use a ton of mods for CMBO. (Maybe too much- I'm reaching the point where it says the ResEdit file can't be written or something? ). The CMAK graphics are good IMHO. No mods needed there. (Except for a US "portrait" mod, but I can't seem to replace a mod with the original stuff w/out re-installing the whole thing)

I would like the shockwave graphics to return, though. smile.gif

  8. Well, could you do please do a map for me?

I've got a secenario idea, but I'm not that good at map design. Basically, it's a US assault on a secret Nazi base in South America.

A little more detail- the Nazi base is found off a branch of the Amazon river. It's surrounded by forest/jungle. The base consists of several parts- living quarters, a seaport (for U-boats), a small (but advanced) airfield, and possibly an HQ.

  9. Just wondering, why didn't Battlefront.com include these airborne tanks ? They did see some action (especially on the Rhine) They were used at D-Day, but supposedly got tangled up in the pataroopers' chutes. But if they hadn't... who knows?

Why aren't they included in CMBO (I can understand why they're not in CMAK, to much regret), and what can I use to simulate them?

    God bless,

As what the 2nd Panzer learned in earnest at Celles.

Well, I had answered "fuel convoys." As the saying goes "Amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics." I guess you're right about the fighter bombers- let the big bombers blow up the fuel, have the fighter-bombers take out the grunts and tanks. smile.gif

Not that trying to attack from the base of the Bulge (north & south) didn't have its hazards and limits, but the "push it back" caused worse US casualties than the earlier defense phase, and let more German troops escape than what might've been the case otherwise.

Amen to that. At the end of the program, it remarked that the Germans were tired of the offensive, surrendered, etc. So wouldn't they have surrended quicker if they had been cut off? smile.gif

    seriously dude, upgrade! www.Ibuypower.com

you don't have to spend 2000 dollars!!! you can get a decent comp for ~700

BFC does support ancient technology. TacOps (which BFC still makes and supports) is still able to run on a PowerMac with MacOs 8.5. Not to mention you only need at least 300 mHz or so to run it. smile.gif

Sure, I'd upgrade to a newer, more powerful Mac in a heartbeat, it's just that I...can't...afford...it.

So, I humbly ask Battlefront to keep us (relatively) low-enders in mind. smile.gif

    NOOOOOOO!!!

Think for us humble low-enders! The ones whom can only afford a 500 mHz computer that we got back in 2000! Those who must despair whenever the newest game comes out- and the "minimum requirements" require a processor that runs 700 mHz-1+ gHz. Do not leave us behind! True, we may not be able to afford a $2,000 brand-new computer, but we can afford a $30 game. Please, please, I humbly beg and entreat you, Battlefront.com, for the love of God, man and World War II, DO NOT ABANDON US 500MHZ COMPUTER USERS!!!

You can see I have an opinion on this subject. smile.gif

Well, I'd like to see the entire Western Theater (France/Germany and Italy... just let me play as the Americans and I'll be fine smile.gif )

I'd like to see an option to make you own infantry units, using the known WW2 weapons. For example, you could make an infantry squad with Garands, Thompsons and Bren LMGs. Or an all-BAR squad (that could be possible). Of course, the historical infantry units would be hard-wired so you could not temper with those.

Another thing I'd like to see it the ability to make a multi-square building. Yes, I know you can "simulate" such a thing by making many "large buildings" together but instead of going through one building to another, a squad will go out (making him exposed to outside fire) of the building, walk a little, and then go into the bulding, where it may be promply slaughted by an enemy unit in said building.

If they do the Western/N.Afirca/Italian Front, I hope that Pershings, and King Tigers are included.

I'd also love to see the Tetrarch and the M22 Locust tanks in there. (Go Airborne Armor! smile.gif )

Oh, and one last thing. I know that a lot of people want Battlefront to "push the envelope," and I have to say, DON'T! I've got a 500 mHz iMac from 2000, and given my financial conditions I probably won't be buying another one soon, so please let us "low-enders" play CMX2 in a good and reasonable manner.

    My $0.02 for now.

  15. Greetings. I am hoping to do a fictional "what if" scenario but it involves a completely made-up map and I'm terrible at doing maps from scratch. The scenario I have is this:

During WWII the Nazis secretly established a base deep in the Amazon jungle (off a obscure offshoot of the Amazon River) from which to continue the Third Reich. Sometime in 1945, the Allies discover this base and send in an Airborne team to tkae it. The base has a port for U-boat deliveries, an airfield, quarters for the German airborne, and an HQ complex.

Anybody want to make a map like this?

    God bless,

    "Publius Cornelius Patton"

  16. Recently I had to reinstall the basic CMBO files onto my hard disk, and now all the mods I've downloaded are gone! I got them all (mostly DD's excellent mods) from combatmission.com which is (I believe) still maintained by Madmatt, but every time I try to download stuff from the site I get this message:

    PASV: Permission denied.
I've downloaded stuff from the site before, but from a different computer. What should I do? Help would be greatly appreciated.

    God bless,

    "P. Cornelius Patton"

  17. Perhaps I wouldn´t want CM to include agony and death horror, but I would welcome true to life animations for both infantry and vehicles along with that much asked for "battle play back", because if that were the case, Combat Mission would be the BEST GAME EVER MADE IN ALL CATEGORIES. Action and intelligence nicely blended into one irresistable package.
Indeed. The "perfect" wargame/simulation would be uber-realistic in terms of wargame physics etc., but be fun and easy to play.

As for graphics, I humbly beg and entreat Battlefront to make sure that the CM games continue to remain playable on a 500mHz 2000-era iMac. smile.gif

Moreover, I'm more likely to "mod" for CMBO than CMAK. Right now I've got DD's uniform and grass mods on my CMBO game, as well as a reduced-size version of that "High-high-res" building mod. There are a few mods for the Shermans, the Pershings, the Halftracks, and some of the German stuff as well (such as the "King" Tiger) CMAK? No mods there, as I think the graphics are good. (Though, as I mentioned on another thread, there is a certain tank uniform I would like modded. smile.gif )

Like basically everyone else said, gameplay first, then graphics. smile.gif

    God bless,

    Publius Cornelius Patton

  18. Has anyone tried to make a "Patton tank uniform" mod for US tank crews? The uniform I'm thinking about is the one Patton designed sometime while in Africa (I think, he was in Africa when he discussed it in "Patton") It was to have a double-breasted green jacket with gold buttons and a golden helmet. The uniform was never put into use (though it would make a nice "what-if" mod, as CM doesn't take texture colors into account smile.gif ), but apparently (according to some article I read online) one such uniform exists in a museum somewhere. Does anyone know more about said uniform and would anyone like to make such a mod? You'd get at least one download. ;)

    God bless,

  19. Greetings, everyone. Right now I'm working on a "What-of" scenario involving an American attack on Berlin. The scenario is mostly doen, but I'm having a bit of trouble on the briefing texts. Here's a rough version of the "Overall" Briefing:

    Title: Berlin- Last Stand

    Type: Meeting Engagement

    Date: May 1, 1945

    Location: Berlin, Germany

    Region: All (Germany)

    Weather: Overcase, Hot(?)

    Terrain: Very Dry Dirt

    Wind: None

    Turns: 60

    Author: "Publius Cornelius Patton"

It was the city that symbolized the heart of the Reich.

Though it was not among the most fervent supporters of Nazism, the city of Berlin became one of the major, if not THE major, target of the Allies by its virtue of being the capital of Germany.

For Western Allies and Russians alike, the capture of Berlin meant the end of the war and conclusion to their horrible ordeal. Patton told his venerable Third Army the shortest way home was "through Berlin and Tokyo" and that he would personally shoot Hitler himself. OTHER BERLIN COMMENTS.

Finally, on April 1, 1945, the Red Army reached the gates of Berlin. After two weeks of building up, the Battle of Berlin began.

During the siege of Germany's capital, the Russians barraged the city with air and artillery attacks while their soldiers fought the Nazis house-to-house and often hand-to-hand.

In the end, 305,000 Russians and 325,000 Germans lost their lives in the fray. Moreover the man most responsible for setting Europe aflame was not to be found; for Adolf Hitler, Führer of the Third Reich of Germany and instigator of the Second World War, committed suicide in his bunker, taking his life to avoid the judgments of man.

    But what if...?

This scenario portrays a fictional Western Allied (mostly American) assault on Hitler's Chancellery complex in Berlin. For this battle I have decided to use The Graeme's "Berlin- Reich Chancellery" map. The military equipment and vehicles in the battle are not historical other than the fact that they were available to their respective armies in May of 1945. While this scenario does not claim to be historical in any way except for the map, and the particular commanders of three German "Battalion HQs," I do hope it is balanced and that you enjoy it well.

Please review this scenario at the "Scenario Depot" (http://www.dragonlair.net/combatmission/)

    God bless,

    "Publius Cornelius Patton"

As you can see, the text is incomplete. Do you like it? I do need some imput. Does anybody know of any quotes, anecdotes etc. about the siginificance of the Allies taking Berlin? (Allies saying once they take Berlin the war's over, etc.) I appreciate your advice.

    God bless,

    "Publius Cornelius Patton"

  20. Alternate universe scenarios, you say? Hmmm...

Patton vs. Rommel at Zama- The Germans don't yank Rommel out of North Africa. Instead, the "Desert Fox" sticks it out to the end, making a last stand against General George S. Patton on "the barren plain of Zama," where Scipio Africanus and Hannibal Barcid clashed so many ages ago.

British Defense of the Holy Land- The British are unable to keep the Germans from overtaking Egypt. Now, the Africa Korps has set its sight on Palestine, perhaps even Jerusalem. Can the British prevent the fascist onslaught? Or shall the anti-Semitic Nazis gain control of Judaism and Christianity's holiest city?

Cannae- Allied and Axis forces clash at Cannae, the site of Hannibal's greatest victory.

Venice: Nazis' last stand- Venice, when it was founded, was a place for refugees fleeing from the barbarians during the fall of the Roman Empire. Now, in May of 1945, it is (involuntarily, however) a refuge for the Nazis fleeing from Allied forces during the fall of the Third Reich. Unlike the barbarians, however, the Allies follow their prey. The "drawing room of Europe" is about to be painted with blood.

Americans/Brits/etc. in Berlin- the classic WWII "what if?," if the Western Allies and not Stalin had been given eastern Germany and had to fight for Berlin in the last battle of the war.

There's an endless possibility of "what-ifs," these are just a few. :D

    God bless,

    Publius Cornelius Patton
