  1. I too have FRAPS but as noted huge AVI files. I do a lot of sports video taping/production and none of records in AVI. Has anyone here used a MP4 based game recorder? Nice high def, much smaller files. One such piece of software is MOVAVI. Another is Mirillis' ACTION.

Would be interested in any MP4 recording information.

  2. So the game is designed for smaller battles but as Steve pointed out others may press well beyond those. BF has allowed this to some degree by limiting the area to a large 4K by 4K. It's up to customers to upgrade their computers to deal with it, if they choose. Looks like my GeForce GTX 470 will handle the load well. Any chance the game moving to 64 bit so more RAM can be applied?

  3. Looking at 57 this July. Started with Avalon Hill boardgames (France 1940, Third Reich, D-Day, Stalingrad, Midway) vs my step-brother about 1969-70. Still have 3-4 of them. Went through the whole electronic progression from Pong, Atari 2600, Intellivision, Bally Astrocade, Atari ST to my first computer a Gateway 386. Started out mainly liking the sports games on the game consoles then played games such as Empire-Wargame of the Century, Silent Service, Their Finest - Hour Battle of Britain, Knights of the Sky, M1 Tank Platoon................... Now about 4 years from retirement, looking forward to more playing time then. No plans to stop due to age alone!

  4. You were absolutely correct, thank you. Comodo has a disable slide switch and a deactivate checkmark. The checkmark with restart allowed CMSF to start instantly.

I'll have to figure out what that portion of Comodo does, I do still have its virus protection and firewall. I'll reinstall SuperAntiSpyware and Malware, one at a time, and hopefully be done with this episode of Computer Incompatibility.

    Thanks again Schrullenhaft!!

  5. It doesn't say to reboot to make it effective but I tried it, disabling all three portions, and rebooting. Same problem, no game.

I did look elsewhere, Control Panel, eLicense Control (32 bit). When I attempt to open this I get an error message: Explorer.EXE This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association with the Default Programs control panel.

I'm using Firefox to access the internet.

When I opened Default Programs I don't recognize an eLicense file to attempt associating with CMSF.

  6. I've tried turning off all portions of Comodo, Virus protection, Firewall, and Defense+ but to no avail. Windows 7 needs to notice that an application has been attempted to start and having failed, provide immediate notification on why there was a failure. It should not be this hard.

Guess I'll go bitch at MS, Comodo and eLicense and see if there are other options.

  7. Yep, you're right, purchased 1.21, installed and loaded 1.31.

My problem now is the game won't start. When I double click the icon, Windows 7 rotating Blue Circle appears for 10-15 seconds then disappears. I set the program to run as administrator and I tried the two DEP options but CMSF just won't start.

Comodo Internet Security Premium, SuperAntiSpyware & Malwarebyte are used.

I only ask that the elicense be improved. Perhaps there is a way a built in troubleshooting program could oversee program execution and identify what is stopping start up???

  8. I'm trying to reload Shock Force. I purchased the Paradox CD years ago. I reinstalled it on my Windows 7 64 bit machine and updated it to 1.21. It started just fine. I then purchased the 1.31 update but now it's asking me for my license number. I don't seem to have anything in the old packaging with a license number. I thought with the disk I was fine.

Can anyone direct me to my next step?

  9. STEVE: Lose? No. But made it worth our while? No, it wasn't worth our while. For example, we could have sold CMBB with 1 year's worth of development instead of 2 and I don't think we would have seen any difference in sales.
What you put in the game with the additional year was QUALITY. Would it have sold the same? Maybe. Would it be considered as well today as it is? Probably not.

BFC breaks ground with CMx1, delivers a great product that is enjoyed by thousands to this day, 7 years later. Huge tournaments are still being planned, built and executed but this is all a mistake?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STEVE: No, the mistake is that all of that would have happened if we hadn't included every last variant of every last tank, infantry, gun, etc. that was ever made. It would have been the same if we hadn't included the Axis Minor nations in CMBB. It would have happened if we hadn't included all the hundreds of improvements we made after the initial release of CMBO. Since you guys aren't willing to pay us what our time is worth, you are going to have to accept that we are within our rights to scale our time back.

All that could not have happened without the additional quality you built in. The work on tournaments today is greatly enhanced because of these details.

Not willing to pay? Who said that? I have all three CMx1 games (CMx2 too!) I would be willing to pay more for the type of detail you put into CMx1. When you play games and tournaments for years after the initial investment, paying more for this enjoyment is easy. Paying $135 for games played over 7 years is what, $1.60 a month? Come on, charge me double, triple but give me what I want.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps. It's more important to know your limitations than your strengths. I'm not looking for the company to lie or put up a false front, just show some respect.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STEVE: Respect is something that isn't deserved, it is earned. When a customer doesn't deserve it the customer doesn't get it, simple as that.

I do know my limitations and my strengths. I also know that placating whining, complaining, rude, obnoxious, and/or downright insane customers (not saying any one of you is any or all of these things in particular) only encourages more of it. That's what 15 years in this business has shown. You wear my shoes for 15 years and walk in them, then we can talk on equal terms.

When a customer lays down your asking price for your product, that buys a little respect. The totally obnoxious posters must be ignored. When you respond angerly, you're just lowering yourself to their level. That does you no good. Don't placate the jerks, ignore them. It's been your outbursts from time to time that is your weakness, not a strength.

You've lost some CMx1 players already and stated you expected it. There's a chip on your shoulder about the way you dismiss it that rubs many the wrong way. I just don't think that was necessary.

I will say I still have high hopes for CMx2. I don't care much for the SF world you've built and that's OK. I believe you'll continue to improve the game to the point where I'll enjoy it a great bit in a WWII setting. I'm even hoping for a post WWII - pre 1960 battle set where we can imagine all sorts of Soviet-NATO action (hint hint).

Thanks for pounding out the patches and keep in mind I've got more than $1.60/month in my pocket for what I want!

  10. We gave you guys too much with CMx1 and we have been very honest that we're never going to do that ever again since I doubt more than a few of you would pay us for what it actually costs to make it that way. In short, CMx1 was never designed to be played 7 years on. That was a mistake, not a design goal.
Trust me, the feeling is mutual.

  11. I downloaded the Paradox 1.07 patch from the link on your site to FileFront. Now I'm stuck with a hidden exe. that randomly plays rap crap when I start CMSF.

After the music stops multiple error messages can appear saying:

jCarousel: No Width/height set for items. This will cause an infinite loop. Aborting...

Any ideas on ridding myself of this?

  12. CM:SF was never going to be popular with the CM1 crowds for many of the reasons stated by Steve. Subject matter is totally different and of little interest to those gamers as a whole.

What was hoped was a new better model, not one with stripped away features. Not one released over a year before it's time. If you wanted to break away from the CM platform it should have had a totally different name. No, we were looking forward to CM2WW2 someday, a much more powerful, visually enhanced game, with even more features and innovative controls than CM1.

We weren't expecting to be ridiculed when we told you of our disappointment. Sure some folks get downright over the top but you don't have to take the bait. We don't need to know everything you're thinking! Ignore the crap, stop with the insults, fix the game, tell us the truth of where you're taking it and keep moving.

I too bought the game out of the chute from Paradox through Amazon. Certainly glad I saved some money compared to Nemesis! I'll play this game for a diversion once you fix it. Hopefully I'll be able to play some PBEM with the few folks who could enjoy this period. If you never make a decent WEGO WW2 game from the engine, someone will and those of us caught waiting for you will welcome them with open arms and wallets.

    No worries..........go have a beer!
