A friend of mine sent me the following e-mail: "I am making a Flames of War 1500 point combat company. I will am going to base the company on the British 1st Border Regiment. Glider Inf 1944. It will have 2ea platoons of Inf, Heavy MG platoon, Mortar Platoon, Recon platoon (3ea jeeps), AT Platoon (3ea 6pdr), Howitzer (3ea pack 75mm). Flames of war does not have an Intelligence Report for British Airborne Forces yet so I based my points and OB on a combo of the Late war British Infantry intell report and the US Airborne Intell report found on the web. My question is do I used the US Airborne squad of 3 sections 4 soldier each or the Late war British Infantry squad of 2 sections with 5 soldiers each? I am leaning towards the British OB of a Glider Squad of 2 sections with 5 soldiers each. I would appreciate your input. I've spent hours on the net looking for this info. I can not seem to find a squad level OB."
While I do not know the answer to his question, I have no doubt, given the quality and amassed knowledge of the members of this forum, that someone does know.

Schrullenhaft,
Thanks for the tips, I installed the new driver and also installed the Rage3D Tweak. When U checked the 'Z MAsk" is disabled by default. I also disabled the game utility hot keys, which I assume are the ones you referred to. After doing this, the game seems to run okay, after I deleted a saved game that continued to show these anolomies. After starting and saving a few games, I still get the transparent boxes, but sporadically, and it seems to solve itself if I save the game, go back to main menu and then reopen the game. The black screen after 'Alt-Tabbing" seems to have resolved as well. The only thing still occurring is two white squares on either side of the information panel that will flash when there is a lot of weapons fire, or will appear as solid when I get a "Reinforcements Arrived" message. Once I click on okay, those squares go away. I also get an occasional white square under a unit, if it is targeted.
Thanks for advice!

This is a Gateway 450 ROG laptop, the problems I am encountering are that frequently when I hit the "GO" button, the "Computer Thinking" window is transparent, and the blue bar that runs across the bottom prior to the moves, cannot be seen. Also, the information panel at the bottom has two white boxes at each side that flcker, and the timer for the move will go completely white. The actual game does run, but when I do an AlT TAB after minimizing the game, I get sound, but a black screen. I am not sure what settings I should be adjusting in the Direct3D or Open GL Tabs. I tried to default and it worked fine for one turn and then the problems started up again.

I played that scenario last week as the Germans, and the guns were there, oh man were they there! Not one of my recon cars survived the first three minutes..Of course, my tactical ineptitude resulted in the Brits voting me MVP for their side in the game...

Try the "Move to Contact" order. Hotkey: E. According to the manual "orders the unit to advance cautiously and keep eyes open for enemy contacts. Will stop as soon as enemy comes into LOS or unit is fired upon..." there is more, but that's the gist of it. If possible, plot your moves through and to areas with cover and/or concealment. Note that the term "advance" in the above is not the same as the actual order "Advance", which is used in an entirely different tactical situaiton.

I tried this with my NVIDIA GeForce 5600, by setting both at the highest level (quality) and it not only made CMAK look better, CMBB (SE) looks better too! Thanks for the tip!Originally posted by WWB:Tune up the Antiscopic Filtering, and FSAA if you want.
FSAA causes some video issues, easily fixed by alt-tab but slightly annoying. AF causes no issues and does wonders.

Mr. Tittles, your posts are good information, detailed and interesting reading as well as reinforcing what's been said so far on this subject in this thread. What were your sources?

I guess these were considered mobility kills. I remember on the sub-caliber LAW range at Fort Polk getting a mobility kill on an M-60 by hitting the driver's vision block (by pure luck) and starred it so bad the driver couldn't see. I remember the range weenies were more angry that I "hurt" their tank than considering what the odds of a hit like that were.Originally posted by Los:IIIRC this w as avery luck shot with the round basically hitting a vision slit or something.

Well said, Los. I too am a 25 year vet, Infantry, retired as a First Sergeant. That's what drove my initial response to redwolf's and MeatEtr's posts, in that were they basing their comments on actual real world, life experiences or what? It is one thing to make those kind of statements and judgements if one has the experience, training and knowledge to back it up. On the other hand...well, I'll just leave it at that.
I do have a question for you, as you said you did the research for the CM model. How prevalent did you find the use of the RG HEAT in an AT role? My research (to include discussions with WWII and Korea vets) leads me to conclude that using the RG HEAT against a moving tank that had infantry support was tantamount to suicide. The preferred tactic was to strip off or pin the supporting infantry, force the tank to button up and then maneuver for a flank, close range shot. But, as the vets I talked to told me, they'd rather use the bazooka for the tank and use the RG guy to keep the enemy infantry pinned. What are your conclusions?

Based on my observations (i.e; Ami rifle grenades in CMAK are used like panzerfaust rounds), I'd say the HEAT version. </font>Originally posted by von Lucke:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />Originally posted by 1st Shirt:

So....are you saying its easy or common that one could hit a target the size of 2 men at say around 100 yards away and about 3 stories high on a roof with a rifle grenade in 1 shot? (judging from the BoB scene) Grant it, i know the shot doesn't have to be perfect since a grenade exploding just has to be relatively close. But in BoB his shot was just too perfect and i don't buy it. I categorize that in the BS cabinet. </font>Originally posted by MeatEtr:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />Originally posted by 1st Shirt:

</font>Another example of dedicated rifle grenades was the M9/M9A1 HEAT anti-tank grenade. The M9 weighed about 1.3 pounds, contained a shaped charge similar to the bazooka AT rocket, could penetrate 3 to 4 inches of armor, and had a maximum effective range of 250 yards (probable effectiveness about 100 yards). -

I would say that this is is more of a quest for historical accuracy, as opposed to the current mania for hysterical political correctness. History HAPPENED in all its ugliness, no matter how people try to pretty it up or make it go away.Originally posted by Lindan:The obsession with nazi-symbols eludes me.
If one is going to recreate history, yes, even in a game, then historical accuracy is and should be a standard to meet. For the modders who strive to reproduce the German Armed Forces World War II insignia as accurately as possible, kudos to them.
People who are offended by "Nazi-symbols" and other not so pretty reminders of history (I am NOT saying that you are, okay , no flame wars...) should not be playing this game, nor for that matter, should they watch TV, read books, etc, etc. History effects everything we do. To ignore history, or to selectively pick and choose what is and what is not acceptable in regards to history is, to me, a combination of arrogance and ignorance.
