Actually all of BF1942 can be classified as "gamey".(I'd love to see someone who thinks otherwise?) Not that I don't enjoy playing it myself.

    Los

What about bombing tanks and stuff with fighter planes, is that gamey? Oh wait, yes it is cuz the pilot in the game is also trained in driving and operating a tank and excels in infantry combat just as much as all the other soldiers on the battlefield. So yes I guess you are right.
  2. Well I know how there are some obvious 'gamey' (to me, it just means unrealistic or never historically done) things in BF1942 like, for example, riding on the hood of a jeep as a bazooka wielding soldier and shooting at tanks as you swerve by or using and sacrificing a single fighter plane to paradrop in a certain location and steal an enemy Tiger tank. But aside from that what is considered 'gamey'? I hear that in CMBO there are still a small number of gamey tactics you can get away with. Err like what?

  3. If you are new to Combat Mission series, you probably don't actually want to start with CMBB. I did and it seemed rather overwhelming to me. I never played a truly realistic war game before that time and everything felt like chores. In CMBO, however, you can get a feel for what its like to strategize in WW2 and not have to be incredibly patient and already good at it to begin with. And overall, I enjoyed CMBO more.

  4. I usually think of gamey as anything u can do in a Command & Conquer or BF1942 game that obviously didnt happen in WW2, like driving an APC full of engies through an enemy base to a sensitve point to capture a building ( Im sure APCs arent fast enough or well armored enough to accomplish that in the real world, anyways)

I also think of it as attempting to get a bazooka team to ride on a jeep and knock out tanks while riding as the jeep is swirving around dodging bullets and tank shells left and right :D

Also, would a form of distraction be a gamey tactic? Like sending some troops/tanks into an enemy area and then sending a convoy past them as they are busy duking it out with the tanks/soldiers?

  5. This has puzzled me for a while. After playing both demos, I will very likely order Combat Mission, but which one? Thing is I would rather pass on the bundle pack cuz for what I know its a highly replayable game and 1 is plenty, plus if I found I lost interest quickly I would end up wasting 60 bucks rather than 30 or 40.

I would like to go for CMBO cuz historically the Western front(I think it is) would be cooler and the demo appealed me. But I might go for CMBB cuz its the sequel and although its a bit more complex, it has many improvements and more realistic infantry tactics I believe. The CMBB demo sucked to me as opposed to CMBO but I did hear that the CMBB demo was a paricularly bad representation of the game so...hmmm...I dunno yet.

BTW I posted here cuz there is some sense of tactic/strategy in wisely picking the one 2 buy and cuz if I posted in CMBO or CMBB forums people would vote in on whatever that particular forum corresponds to.

  6. 2 more questions that came up, although this pertained to the CMBO demo.

How do u make an engineer squad use charges on mine(disarm) or pillboxes? there doesnt seem to be a command for it, do I have to wait until they are right over the minefield or defensive structure b4 performing action?

Do forests reduce your visibility from far away enemies? Cuz in the valley of trouble I was pissed off to see that my artillery spotters were being attacked by pillboxes despite the fact that they were an extreme distance away and my spotters were even prone at the time, but on a large sandy hill not a forest or bush

  7. Like, how much firepower total does it take for every soldier in a squad to be killed?

Also, I notice in the info panel(Enter) The firepower is added up from only 1 of each weapon in the squad. But if there were, say, 7 people carring a certain gun then wouldnt the firepower be multiplied before being added to the squads firepower?

And what exactly does pinned mean the game? As opposed to panic and routed.

Yes, I am a newbie, fresh and hot from the oven ;)
