  1. Can I just point that errors in a program resulting from the design process rather than the programming process are still bugs. All that is different is that it is easier to correct errors in coding rather than errors in design.

A bug is just the name used to describe the problem of a program operating in an unintended manner and originally was used to describe the problems caused by moths being attracted to the vacuum valves of the early computers

Is there any chance you could post a quick breakdown of how you went about getting round the download problem i.e. One that I can shamelessly follow. I am having exactly the same issues (Your ISP isn't Freeserve is it by any chance?)

CDV certainly don't believe in making life easy do they?

    Many Thanks

Cyrano, you got it, my ISP IS freeserve!

The problem can be solved, I have a fully patched CM 2 on my PC! Here is how.

    1. Open Internet Explorer

    2. From the menu bar select "Tools" and then "Internet Options".

    3. Select the "Connections" tab.

    4. Select the connection you will be using for the download.

    5. Click on the box labelled "Use a procy server for this connection".

    6. In the cache box enter "http://www-cache.freeserve.net" (without the quote marks)

    7. In the Port box enter 8080.

    8. Now try the download again. If everything is set up as it should be you will find you are able to download.

Just one other word of advice, either use the pay as you go option to connect to freeserve or disconnect and then start the download, otherwise the 2 hour cut off may get you.

You can go back and disable the proxy settings when you are done if you like. It does slow down your internet connection slightly.

I tried that and whilst I can see the files on the ftp server it refuses the connection when I try to download it. Given the weird method gamesweb use to serve files (each request is given a unique directory name in the ftp server that I pressume then has a symbolic link in it to the actual file) I am not surprised. This would also explain why Gamesweb and my ISP do not like each other. This is what comes when standards aren't.

Still the problem is sorted now, I used an external proxy server that permits external users to connect to it. Now just the nearly 2 hour wait for the thing to download.

    Thanks for everyone who helped.

The English patch which I just downloaded is only 15mb which shouldn't be too bad on a dial-up, about an hour if your ISP gives you a decent connection.

The English version does update the version number on the start screen. Anyone know what is the 'multilingual version'? Is it the Finnish/Swedish etc. version?

Well I have worked out what the problem is but have yet to find a solution. It is all to do with proxy servers and the dumb way my ISP deals with them and the dumb way gamesweb handle file requests so that, in short, the gamesweb server cannot work out where the file request is coming from.

I have tried it both and without having a download manager running. Neither works.

And given the size of the download it is not practical to not use a download manager anyway. Seems CDV screwed this up.

I get a security warning for a flash installation when the site is loaded but that´s all. I can´t imagine it´s restriced as they have every CDV patch for every country.

I still get the error message telling me ""The download was linked by an unauthorized page!" in English, and "Der Download wurde von einer

nicht authorisierten Seite verlinkt!" in German. Has something been lost in translation there ?

    Mike,

Are you using liberal in its correct meaning to inidcate a political philosophy that favours the rights of the individual over the rights of the state, or are you misusing the term (as so often happens with people on the political right) to mean left-wing ?

  8. Ok, I have been trying the rules but am getting a bit stuck when it comes to deciding what goes in my task force and how many points the initial task force selection gets.

Which figure do I use to run the auto selection QB for the task force: the taks force total, the purchase points total, the provisional force size or the actual force size ? Or none of the above ?

  9. I have only been playing CMBO for a week or so but have already started using CMMOS to change the graphics and have not had any problems so far bar this one.

I have a number a allied winter vehicle tectures installed and operable thanks to CMMOS. However I am playing a scenario with some M10/M36 tank destroyers and do not have winter textures for these. I have cheched on CMHQ and cannot find any. Does anyone know if such textures are availible, and if so from where ?

    Thanks in advance.
