In the terminology of my esteemed American friends - chill the **** out Dorosh old boy!!

I enjoyed the 2002-3 Dorosh attitude a hell of a lot more - more humble, more informative, more dry humour. Maybe you're an alien imposter, maybe Mr Kettler can throw some light on this..... tongue.gif

I almost forgot how absurd these forums can get it's been soooooooooo long. tongue.gif

So Anton I don't have your email anymore . . . write me an email (jjessejj@gmail.com) and tell me if CMSF is worth messing with. I've avoided it thus far since my brother declined to review it on the grounds that the coding was so sloppy and "beta" that he couldn't say anything good about it with a straight face (he writes reviews for PCGamer and CGM).

FYI, Dorosh wasn't any more interesting to read in 2003 than he is today. ahem ;) </font>

Now I don't even bother visiting the BF site anymore having wasted $ on several of their pot-boilers months ago to fill the void----utter waste. This in fact is the first time in many many months.

You posted here 9 weeks ago - just over two. ;) </font>
  4. Can't help but sneak in my own $.02 of LOL, ROFL, and gimme a break.

I can't imagine there is a CM FREAK as fanatic and loyal as I've been for year after year. Used to peek in here at least 20 times a day. Now I don't even bother visiting the BF site anymore having wasted $ on several of their pot-boilers months ago to fill the void----utter waste. This in fact is the first time in many many months.

    So..

    YAWN

The whole thing is as dead as Saddam.

    gripe

    bitch

    moan

    OK, much better.

Whatever advantage this was intended to simulate . .. . at the end of the day, the movement command delay and top speed in reverse are slower than forward like every other vehicle.
  6. Very frustrating.

I just started my first pbem game .. . 17 email exchanges in. 1 out of every 3 turns ends up crashing on me. I get something along the lines of "mouse error" blah blah, and then the game crash and I have to reload.

I see there is this nifty "reload" marker to keep the devious cheating bastages in line . . .well I'm playing my game against a friend so I'm not worried he thinks I'm cheating or somfink but it always says "reload = 1" when this happens. Come on!

    Anyone else run into this?

  7. I've been reading through the posts here to get some idea whether I wanted to spend the $ to get this game. Well, I've read mostly good, if not spectacular reivews so today I picked it up.

For the life of me I don't get it. This game is EXACTLY like the original SC. Don't get me wrong, SC was a great game that I played fanatically for em . . . 1 month and then it became used and boring.

I could be being a tad premature as I've only played for a whopping 20 minutes (I know, I know) . . . so I'm invading Poland and this is exactly the same game. Unit positions . . the works. Just the same. Slightly sexier graphics but come on . . .the graphics are still practically stuck back in the 80s and if that's supposed to make this thing great it falls dead and flat.

I will keep playing but will someone please screw my head on straight and explain to me why I just wasted $63?

Hope I find out I'm wrong about this btw.

  8. Oh I know I know. I'm just being grumpy. Not terribly keen on the direction BF has taken with all these 3rd-rate pot-boilers being released while we sit and wait for the only reason most of us came here to begin with. Hope your making a lot of $ on your pot-boilers BF . . .

I barely even visit this site anymore. :(

Winecape, your wine is worth 1000 more tourneys. ;)

Yes well, the *old* CM engine was dead a few years ago already. Though since the quality was so high many of us addicts managed to play on with compulsive satisfaction long after.

I'm sorry but taking 4 years doesn't impress me in the slightest. Rather, it's disappointing if not annoying b/c the old CM is really really really uber dead now. So em, you know, . . . go right ahead and take another 4 years.

  10. Wine arrived today. Holy ****e! Charl, you're the man! Very generous of you. You know, I didn't see a single drop of this wine last year. . . I had it all sent to jwxspoon's house in SC for the CMvention. By the time I arrived there wasn't a drop left to be had!

Glad I was greedy this round!

    Thank you very much!

    Cheers,

    Jesse

  11. Any unit with LOS into a small area, while protected in all other areas, is keyholing. It's a very broad term.

Here's a sneaky example for ya: How to take out an enemy AT gun with a tank, totally protected.

-A 75mm AT gun opens fire from a patch of woods and kills one of your t70s, revealing his position. You have a t34 behind a large patch of scattered trees, protected from the enemy gun. Though just beyond the scattered trees is LOS to the enemy gun.

Break out your LOS tool and get to work. The LOS tool is god in this game.

-How deep into the woods patch is this gun? Measure from the t34 to the gun with the LOS tool, then from the t34 to the front tip of the woods patch the gun is in. Subtract and voila. For the sake of discussion let's say it's in 3m deep.

-Now, LOS in scattered trees (summer, clear conditions) is 54m, so you can move your t34 forward into the scattered trees EXACTLY 55m away from the front edge of the patch and remain totally protected. Though we'll need to nose forward just a bit more than that to get our keyhole/LOS close enough to take the gun out area firing HE.

-LOS in woods (summer, clear conditions) is 26m. The gun is only in 3m deep, so really all we need to do is crack open a tiny keyhole to the front part of the woods and we're set. I'd aim to move your t34 52m from the front of the scattered trees patch. This should allow you to area fire HE just in front of the enemy AT gun in the woods, and the poor bastard won't be able to hit you back.

Get good at losing. Insist on it. Offer to cease-fire the moment you start winning.

Forget about QBs, play scenarios. The better player can win with whatever hand he is dealt. Not a cherry-picked map and force comp.

Can't take out that tiger with your t34/76s? Learn how to do it with t70s.

    Roger that?

    Copy that. Thank you!

Now, to get you over to the states for the CMvention. . . . . ;)
