I figured out how to achieve what I want simply by editing a campaign and doing a 'save as'. I didn't realize I could do this at first.
I just think it's fun to crank up the Axis war machine a few hundred notches and stomp all over the place...

Agreed.
A better strategy is probably just to set the game options such that I can stroll through the oppostion. I will try the editor out as well.

Once France is out, I use my two cruiser fleets (heretofore idle), one air unit, and an army to take Denmark. Meanwhile, start moving units next to ports for transport. Once Denmark falls, use the fleets and an air unit or two to soften up Norway, then land a coupla armies, an armor unit and definitely an HQ.
It works out well because once Norway goes, you can turn around and try for Sweden next, although it's much tougher.

Funny - I, too, rushed into work today so I could print the manual and study it while hard at 'work'!
Our newborn is complicit in my new-found timesink; I get the 10pm feeding, put him to bed, then am free to play until about 1:30am before finally hitting the hay.

Has anyone figured out how to cheat and/or hack files to get more MPP's?

One place where I'd like to see enhancement is with the game's UI.
Here are a few suggestions:
1) Hotkeys for unit actions, e.g., Ctrl-R = reinforce; Ctrl-M = reinforce max, etc..
2) User control over how much of the screen is taken up by UI elements, e.g. ability to close/re-size some of the other elements so more screen space can be devoted to the map.
3) Some options for user control of screen resolution. I'm running at 1280x1024, and the main window doesn't fill my screen.
