  1. When I attempt to boot either CMAK or CMBB I'm getting an INPUT NOT SUPPORTED message on my monitor.

I have an HP x17e monitor with a Nvidia GFORCE 6 series card.

My current driver number is 190.62.

My HD crashed and when I attempted to reinstall Combat Mission software this error occured. No other programs show this error message.

I had CMBB and CMAK previously installed on this PC with the same monitor, video card and driver and the programs worked fine.

Agree with Dorosh, scenarios don't convert very well from ASL to CM for the most part. I played a version of "Paw of the Tiger" that was pretty good though.

It's funny that people always come back to wanting "computer ASL" after all these years. Unfortunately, CM isn't ASL, and ASL isn't CM. You've got VASL installed, try playing it with others online, you'll have a great time. Note, VASL is for ASL, if it's classic SL that you're wanting to play, you need the VSQL module for VASSAL (VASL is a module for VASSAL - gets confusing but after you figure it all out it's really very simple).

Well I think it has to do with the vast amount of 'stuff' in the ASL rulebook. For me, trying to remember which rule/diceroll is applicable when is the issue. I guess I think 'just let the computer handle that'; which may or may not be realistic.

Also, it seems whenever someone posts a picture of one of the various ASL tourney's, the folks in the picture are inevitably referring to the ASL rulebook rather than enjoying the game. ;)

However, it just may be that part of the joy that comes from ASL is finding that rule that:

    1. renders you opponents brilliant move illegal.

    2. makes your questionable move/strategy legal.

    3. shows your superiority in remembering obsure rules rather than any 'tactical'/game playing acumen you actually have. :D

  3. I still can't get it to run with CM games.

Video manf tells me its not the card, MB manf tells me its not MB, software ( and to be fair the CM series is just one of the games having trouble/not running properly) tells me its not software, so I'm about ready to chuck the darn card.

My card is AGP and I'm beginning to think the AGP slot is bad in some fashion (although other games work fine) and just get a PCI card.

I found on the Nvidia site where they archive the drivers. I'll load the one you have and see how it goes.

    Thanks.

What processor are you running? Mine's an AMD 2800+. I had the FX 5200 128 Mg card and CM games worked fine with that one.

No dramas here. Initial dramas because of the windows drivers but the drivers from the disc sorted it out.

    Geforce FX 5500 256mb

    Driver version 6.1.7.6

Deleting the CM preferences and reselecting may help?

Interesting, my driver is 77.72. Do you know where/how to get older drivers? I don't see where on the Nvidia site.

Also, is your card PCI or AGP?

  8. Ran dxdiag and got this result:

Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 32 (User verification of Direct3D rendering): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)

Direct3D 8 test results: All tests were successful.

Direct3D 9 test results: All tests were successful.

Reinstalled Direct X 9.0, ran test again and got same failure.

  9. I think its the 3d graphics are not loading. All the splash screens load fine, as well as the tool bar, the scenario selection, start up etc.

It's only after I select a game or qb or whatever and load. Then, as I said, the lower control panel is fine, but the game screen display does not show the 3d graphics.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled both games several times, uninstalled reinstalled my video card and drivers.

    I'm at my wits end.

  10. There is no detail on for terrain or any of the other graphics. I see what appear to be hexogonal shapes for vehicles, have no uniform detai and all terrain is absent (ie nothing in maps). What I see is different color squares but no tress, hills, etc.

The intro screens and game select screens are all ok, it's just when I attempt to play a scenario. It's as if the 3d graphics are not loading.

All the info panels are ok.

Additionally, when I go to the game, I do not get an option for 1024x768 for either CMAK or CMBB. I've deleted/reinstalled both my Nvidia drivers and hardware via the device manager.

Also, although the problem is with both CMAK and CMBB, CMBB does not appear in the list of installed programs I can add or remove. When I try to remove it manually by deleting the files, I get a an error msg. Naturally I'm trying to install/reinstall the program to see if something was corrupted. But I can't do that as well.

  11. Just installed this card and the graphics in both CMBB and CMAK are screwed up.

Read in sticky about turning off anitaliasing as possible solution. However, can't figure out where/how to do that. Have checked control panel for the card but can't seem to find the right tab.

The new video card is Geforce FX 5500, 256mg running 77.72 as the forceware.

    Thanks
