  1. Dear all!

First of all: sorry for my fierce opponents for delays. One week ago I warned about delays thanks to computer difficulties at work. There came also other problems like installing backup server and CAD/CAM-stations plus repairing one with broken PSU. -> No time and possibility for CMBO.

I'm greatly sorry that I haven't been updating anything here. redface.gif

Please be patient, I try to fix out something. If I can't fix anything within 8 hours it'll be until next Tuesday (out of town for 4 days). But on the bright side last weekend I saw my sister's son, age 2 months smile.gif

Once more: sorry! Doing my best :D

  2. After viewing 8 first screenshots I get "Sign in to access GameSpot Complete Content. If you are not a member and wish to learn more about all the benefits, Click Here." and redirected back to index page - every time! Grr...

If I type picture number manually to the html field I get the streets of Berlin picture along with the popup mentioned earlier.

There seems to be no option for free access here (though free access IS mentioned in information screen).

Is there a way to view the pictures for free?

  3. Normally when I want to supress/kill a specific soft target I would say Yes for main gun. Otherwise I would target with N(ext) instead of T(arget). Reason for this in CMBO is "target fixation". If this applies to CMBB I don't know yet.

I would like to hear if anything's been changed since CMBO for manual targetting causing "target fixation"?

That is when targetting manually with T unit would ignore other threats for too long period of time. Also ammo consumption would be higher than normally.

    - Is manual targetting getting too fixated anymore ie. does unit's TacAI change target faster if necessary?

    - Is N(ext) command using less main gun ammo than T(arget)?

    - Is there any way to tell to tank to shoot HE on specific target but not to waste all of it's ammo there (like telling "don't shoot with full ROF but slower")?

  4. Oh, missed this post by Munter earlier! So this is a good excuse for a bump! (While waiting for the actual game smile.gif )

I think the other one is bone of Russian tanks with no markings. There should be at least Ps.-numbers visible if they were Finnish. Or then I'm just misguided (and misguiding).

I think the German law of cencoring swastikas applies only to ones with Nazi origins? Even though there was order from USSR after war to replace Finnish swastika with an emblem, it's not applicable anymore. And as far as I know there is no European law (except maybe some German law) banning Finnish swastikas.

But I also understand BFC's need to be on the safe side and cencor the Finnish swastikas just to be sure there's no problems with German government.

For those who don't know: Finnish swastika has it's origins in African (!) good luck symbols. Nazi symbol came around after 20 years. Ideologically there couldn't be anything less in common.

But that's enough with swastika groginess :D

The game is long waited and easy to mod to bypass irregularities of German law smile.gif (Germans: I'm not meaning anything funny, just that what's a good law in German doesn't mean it's good law everywhere).

  5. After NKVD let me purhcase airplanes dropping leaflets like "Welcome Red Army! It's here to set your free from your fascist tyrannic leaders". After that Katjusha would sing the first round barrage! tongue.gif

(Actually happened in real life, too. Leaflets and barrages falling in the same location... And no, I don't think dying people are fun. I'm talking here in the same spirit than the front line soldiers with their black humour.)

Not again with that ISU story! Aaargh!!! Let me have the CMBB, toooooo!!! :D

Back to the original topic: yes, I've seen 'em burning and blowing. Only PzIII's and PzIV's in Citadelle, though. Just go and replay. And replay. If you want to see more, give Allied +200% troops ;)

  7. I've read from somewhere that early war tanks were more vulnerable of Molotov's as the burning liquid could easily enter the engine compartment. The best result would obviously be obtained by dropping it through commander's hatch.

The late models of tanks had air intakes and exhausts modeled so that any burning liquid couldn't get directly to the engine compartment.

So therefore hitting anything than the crew or engine compartment would just give a nice short fire show with no real effect on the tank - it wouldn't even get a bit warmer inside. Looks like this is modeled to CMBB.

BTW: I think the first time Molotov's coctails were used widely was Winter War. I guess tanks in woods in extreme cold conditions and decisive men with petrol bottles don't mix very well :D

  8. Tank hunter teams in Citadelle scenario: I gave the rocket-using team vehicle arc of 20 m and for the molotov-using team vehicle arc of 10 m (180 degree both arcs). Then just wait for tanks to come closer... Yippee!!! Look them burning! And the firepower of the two SMG's is whopping 100, so no complains there, either.

They'll be in my arsenal for sure smile.gif Of course zooks and schrecks are better in longer ranges, but they are easier to spot than a regular two man team.

Of course there'll be problems with getting teams to good ambush locations, but that's always the same with tank hunting infantry.

    [Edited for the scenario name]

Nope, because as soon as you target something outside of the Covered Arc, said arc is cancelled.</font>
  10. Krhm, now back to the business again (shudders the dust from the floor off from clothes).

About logs: I agree they wouldn't make any difference with 75 (and larger) AP rounds except maybe for few very rare situations where a shot would come from front in extremely low angle to the side. Against MG's they would give a little bit peace of mind (sound of MG hitting your hull can be quite unnerving I guess) and add some protection against ATR's.

About concrete: I think they'll add some protection as they enhance the propability of ricochet. See picture below. But I agree that using steel instead of concrete would give a much better result!

I have to say all thanks to Andreas Lärka, the creator of the www-page The Sturmgeschütz in Finnish Service.

The idea was that Finnish toothpicks were too short to penetrate a thick log. This very much explains the initial Soviet success in their summer onslaught in '44. Finns just mimicked it from them, thinking that the Russkies had some good reason...

Not the toothpicks, nooo! It's too horrible! There's only one weapon more mightier than Finnish toothpicks and that's a bun! Even the mighty IS's and ISU's would run for their lives if they ever saw a hint of a one day old bun waiting to be thrown at them! tongue.gif

  12. I add my thoughts here, too.

I think the dust raised by vehicles should be in. Not because it looks neat (okay, it looks neat and it would be great!) but because it gives sometimes opponent a hint that something's approaching in the distance. You might not see what's there (truck, ht or a tank) but you know something's there alright.

I believe this applies not only to desert but to large steppes of Russia. Think about how different battle Citadelle would be: fast advancing German tanks would be seen even when they'll behind a ridge. And their number would be counted somewhat, too (from one small dust trail to several ones or one huge one coming from several vehicles).

In large 6x4 km maps one should see even tanks going fast to your vulnerable flank -> send some ISU-152's to welcome them! :D

Note: I understand the limitations of the game engine and fully understand why dust wouldn't be in (just as multi-turret tanks aren't in either). I'll welcome CMBB in any case!

  13. MadMatt was really kind and posted a Finnish StuG III G bone. Thank you for that, you're my hero! tongue.gif

Question: are there different kinds of StuG's available for purchase?

There are the early models with no important extra (some toolboxes etc. were added) added to them and there are the late models which have concrete in front armour and gun mantlet and logs on the sides.

The armour modifications with concrete and logs would affect on AP rounds (that's why they were added there in the first place). I would guess that this is issue especially with hollow charges hitting concrete or a log. And front armour would also reflect more shots as it doesn't have any 0 degree surfaces anymore. The obvious shot trap is seen in under the gun, upgrade doesn't affect that.

The picture below should give the idea.

  14. Sumfink like that smile.gif

To not only bump, I could also give out some info. Here's a nice www-site of Finnish StuG's (yep, they took out even ISU-152's with these): The Sturmgeschütz in Finnish Service and here's some nice pictures of Liisa.

What worries me in the bone picture is that the tank in forward seems to be Ps.531-32 nicknamed "Hellevi" (it's a woman's name, nothing hellish) got no victories and was propably destroyed during target practice after the war (according to the www-page before).

Maybe I would go after a mod for Ps.531-10 nicknamed "Bubi" which took out 6 T-34's, 4 T-34/85's and 1 ISU-152 (as official record) :D

  15. As people have mentioned gigantic Flak Towers (aka. Geschützturm aka. Gefechtsturm) I became interested. I've been doing some search on Internet, but can't find enough information.

Can you help with finding info about Flak Towers, their armament and the battles envolved?

Here are some links I've found:

Berlin Air-raid Shelters, Flak Towers and Bunkers

As Luftwaffenhelfer upon the Flaktower VI in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg

The buildings were massive with 2 m thick walls and roofs, with total height of about 45 meters. As they could inhabit 18000 (18 thousand) civilians + military personnel + ammo supply + armament they've been small cities of their own... Huge!!!
