Vad at the beginning of the war:  "Putin will win this war because the Russian armed forces are modern, well-equipped, because they also have multiple superiorities, because they have a strategic base against which one simply cannot defend oneself."

    Complete clown.

I agree 100%: the man is as incompetent as they get and has been wrong about every single one of his predictions.

However, he was already retired early in 2012 (under unclear circumstances), his position as adviser to the Merkel government ended back then as well.

German public television has a tendency to always tryi to show both sides of any issue, no matter how ridiculous one of those sides may be. Vad is therefore a popular talk-show guest along with the likes of Sarah Wagenknecht etc. They represent fringe opinions but are sure to generate controversy and therefore clicks and views.

It says at the end that this guy was the de facto assistant chief of staff of the regiment, and the video gives the impression he has no idea what is going on. If it is a good representation, it is no wonder the Russians are where they are.

That's what struck me too... He doesn't know what day it is and doesn't seem sure about what village he's in. When they drive up to some destroyed vehicles with Zs all over them, he asks "are they theirs or ours?"

  3. I hope this hasn't been posted before: cut and edited phone camera footage of a young Russian NCO's life before and during the invasion released by Ukraine after his capture. It sheds a fascinating and disturbing light on the Russian army and its perspective on the war.

  4. This is only my experience after a few games and needs proper testing, but to me it seems that the rate of tank guns getting disabled has more than doubled compared to other CM games. I played the demo scenario with the German attack and had half of my guns destroyed after one or two hits. Trying out the full game now and it seems to be the same here...

  5. I played the first scenario and really enjoyed it.

One thought, however: were the Soviet trenches really just in one long, continuous line? Once I had spotted them it was very easy to just order a linear fire mission on them, wipe out most soldiers and at-guns in them and then run the rest over with my tigers.

The second scenario seems like a much bigger challenge so far, but I haven't gotten around to playing more.

  6. I've been playing the CM games since Beyond Overlord, but I've found that the ever increasing size of battles and campaigns is not my cup of tea - I'm just not that much of a micro manager. I actually enjoyed the training campaigns in CMBO and CMRT more than the actual ones due to their practical size and fast action.

I've played Devil's Descent but that was the only smallish-sized campaign that I could find, so here's my question: are there any more out there that I've just overlooked?

  7. The TacAI is purposefully predisposed to picking a target and sticking to it proportional to how difficult it is to change targets. Without this logic your little pixeltruppen stuck in virtual steel boxes would more often than not experience ADD. Not a good thing because Ritilin hadn't been invented yet :)

So it is possible that even if it did see all the other stuff (and are you sure? Click on the Elephant and double check) it might have figured it should dispatch the Halftrack first before switching to something else.

Thanks for the reply - I guess my game was a bit extreme since the elefant (which had los on both targets) was under attack from two sides. It's still weird however, that when directly facing an opponent and having enough time to fire at it before turning to face the other target, it rather chooses to rotate instead.

  8. I'm having the worst time with this tank destroyer.

I've tried it out in a couple of test games and first of all its turn rate is about one degree a second - I have to manualle make it turn in reverse to get it to the right angle. Another problem is that even when faced with an enemy tank right in front of it, it starts to randomly pivot around ignoring aiming / armor arc orders.

I've never noticed this behaviour with the turretless tanks in CMBN - is it a bug, or am I totally not getting something?

  9. If yes, what were your experiences/strategies?

While this campaign gives you an excellent feeling for the desperate battles the German troops caught in the Falaise gap must have fought (minus the air attacks), I'm finding it fiendishly hard at times. I have managed to get a draw in the fifth or sixth mission (the one with the truck convoys) but had all my tanks immobilized or destroyed and most of the convoys knocked out by invincible AT guns.

  10. Yes I did everything you told me- right now I'm using the fxgo 5650 driver from the dell homepage you suggested- the speed of the game has increased a wee bit in my opinion but it's still far from playable :-( I uninstalled all drivers completely before trying a new one and I turned off all AA and filtering stuff... what I noticed is that the game gets extremely slow during the setup phase when there are lots of lines and unit bases displayed. During the turns there is a slight increase in performance though.
