  2. Thank you brave souls for stating YHOs. As I'm running a tournament FOR you (though I get to feel the heat as well...) the idea is to get feedback and make decisions for the future.

The problems you've been having with e-mail should vanish if you regularly keep demanding for missing turns. In that case a mail that was not delivered can be resent more quickly. Read the topic if turns are late. Many guys are polite enough to post here if they are away. Some are also clever enough to post if the opponents don't reply to their mails. I hope these things are sorted out without further difficulty.

I've been away meself for about 40 hours (weekend off, local music video festival demanded my presence. Nothing happens here without me ;) )and am catching up with the workload both with the tourney and in RL.

Keep posting and playing lads. I like to hear from any sort of trouble you engage during the tournament as I know that some things are bound to bug you. Just splurt it out and I try to make things better.

  4. Loads of feedback are pouring in as I hoped.

I hope that you are not expecting personal replies as my time is rather limited to accomplish full scale correspondence with 24 people. Here are some main points and replies to them:

    Slow Progress

I can't do much to prevent it. I WAS expecting some difficulties on this sector and don't feel crushed about the matter.

    Solutions:

    1. Deadlines :( . I hate deadlines  . No deadlines  .

    2. Creating groups for tourneys consisting "fast lane" with turn a day rate and a slower pace group for 4-5 mails per week and the snail lane for the slower players. Separate finals for all the groups. This too is bound to cause trouble but is the best thing I can figure out.

    Random reinforcement insertions

Yes, they are unfair  . War is not fair. As I'm a democrat I could have a vote (Yea/Nay) for fixed arrivals but IMHO as this tournament IS SUPPOSED to be about reacting to the surprises and changing conditions of the battlefield I'd love to have them included. Somebody has done very well in one of the games though his luck was so rotten that the promised reinforcements never materialized.

    Arrival of CM:BB

I rest my case. I will acquire a copy and play the game. Still I'm more attracted to west front as the east front provides way more difficulties in scenario designing. I hope I get to post the honours and send the rewards as this folds up. I'll run this as long as you are willing to play. If you think it is not fun we'll call it a day and my boss will see me doing some REAL work for a change...

Feel free to quote this or just to post your opinions about the three matters above. These were the only things that showed in multiple mails.

The rules state that you should play all as Pbem if requested. If you'd like to TCP/IP some or all and your opponents agree there is nothing against it in the rules. This should be for fun... ...and glory and fame of course! ;)

I do not think that your CM:BO does not run after installing CM:BB. I do not think that BTS sends strike team to take you out for playing CM:BO after the launch of CM:BB. This goes for the rest of you also. I hope we can wrap this up before CM:BB reaches the stores but if not you have to play yuor games or drop out from the tourney.

I mail to your opponent. I sure hope he replies. If not we'll have to figure it out fast!

I hope all you lads pop here once in a while as this is a great place for information on game progress and possible difficulties (technical, RL etc.) causing all sorts of delays are sorted here. 13. No worries lads. No deadlines will be issued in this tournament. The idea is that you participated because you WANT TO PLAY and if RL gathers troubles to one of my most enthusiastic lads the rest will have to bear with such a fact.

I trust that you can communicate about the proper send rates and such between yourselves (having a clear example here above). I don't mind if this folds up nicely soon but again I also understand that there are other things in one's life than CM:BO. Thus no deadline.

If somebody seems to be lagging severely behind it is possible to replace that player with a willing victim from the reserves who would CONTINUE THE ONGOING GAMES but I sincerely hope that such drastic measures will never become necessary.

But these scenarios attempt to overlook this obvious fact and force me to use things like planning, supporting fire, and ...*shudders*..."tactics". Should I lose any of the scenarios, I blame you.[snipped the Graemlin]

What an incident as I also hate most of the people above :D . I have sadly noted the same ignorance of the ÜberGerman superiority in the scenarios :( . Perhaps the Teutons will fare better in the next tournament thus allowing complete lack in planning and use of tactics on the axis side ;) .

Well, you don't have to translate it to Finnish before attempting to figure it out in English :D . To further add to my defense in a matter clearly concerning religion I have never been part of any religous sect, cult or whatever you like to call them. Author of the scenario could have known better. Boyd is a member of several cults, sects or whatever you like to call them :D:D

For the longest time I've avoided scens b/c any one of the following reasons (poor briefing so you didn't know your full objective, poor setup conditions/reinforcements arriving (panthers spawning in the middle of a company anyone?), etc) I've found these scens to be excellent. Of course, my opinions might change when i'm more on the receiving end of some of the goodies that my nme's have.

We have done our best with these. One of the aspects almost completely ignored was balance as on most occasions the troop rosters were the main historical sources of the author. To add atmosphere the briefings are based on actual orders received by the historical commanders/troops thus allowing a margin of error in knowledge of enemy positions, number and quality. Sometimes these errors were sources of great grief to the troops deployed.

The idea is to reproduce the problems and challenges faced by field commanders in both armies. The air arm plays a large part in many of these but it was buggering hard to find any encounters at all that were not strongly affected by either strong effort of air arm or huge number of artillery rounds used. "Down unders" also did a fine job in attempting to cover something else than the initial landing period or the Ardennes which both have received proper attention from excellent scenario authors.

I hope that the rest of the lads are happy with them too. I'd also like to receive possible further compliments via e-mail as I'm not very good in handling such matters publicly  . Post flames here though. I handle those much better ;) .

Play, kill, enjoy, make friends and remember to feed your pets and families!

I'm off to watch "Band of Brothers". Might pop into a bookstore on the way to acquire a copy of "Latin-English dictionary" as I finally seem to have some need for one ;) ...

  16. Wow, results and situational reports are pouring in.

Besides that I'm actually getting (some) e-mails giving both valuable hints and morale bolstering feedback! I've avoided commenting the scenarios as much as possible but can't hold my breath forever  .

It seems that "Dies Irae" ("Day of Hatred" for those sleeping through their latin lessons just like I did) has expectedly been the bloodiest of the FK&C encounters this far. Most frustrating one is hard to spot as it seems everybody has a personal favourite in that category.

Keep the games runnin' lads ;) ...
