  1. Can someone explain how the smart pause works? I can't see anything about it in the instructions. The patch preview seems to indicate it will be a feature of the patch, but the option already seems to be in the game and people are discussing it. When I select smart pause the game pauses when someone is killed, but it doesn't pan to that location.. it just pauses.. are there any other options I'm missing, and what does the patch add to this?

  2. A big thank you to everyone involved in producing this patch. To get such an amount of improvements in a free patch is wonderful! smile.gif

    The addition of a quick battle setup option is a big step forward alone. The good grace Battlefront and 1C have shown in producing this patch means I will definitely be buying the next version of ToW, which hopefully including enterable houses and on map mortars/smoke/art, will really help take the game into the realms of a serious wargame imo.

    However, being the type that always wants more :D I would love to see some kind of random selection for the allies/enemies in the sp and mp quick battle generators. Is there any way an option could be included where we could pick the amount of points available and then we, and the AI, can pick our forces from that? That way we'd get a fair fight but not know what forces we were going to encounter.

    I played a 1 squad vs 1 squad battle from the generator last night (which is something I'd wanted to try for a while) and it was great fun! For the first time I was really paying attention to each soldiers abilites and how best to employ them. Great game - thanks again! smile.gif

  3. Did any of the other participants get their prizes for entering a video yet?

    I just got mine. I thought I was getting a T-shirt, which I did get, but I also got a signed poster and what I think is the Russian version of the game! I'll have to brush up on my Russian and try to read the box!

    Anyway, was really nice to receive that. Thank you 1C.. what a great bunch of people! smile.gif

  4. 1/ Enter-able buildings (yay!)

    2/ On map mortar teams

    3/ Random battle generator with user selectable units based on points available (which the user can set) This would allow anything from the max units the engine can handle to squad v squad battles.

    Thanks for asking. Even if they don't get in, it's nice to be asked smile.gif

    Not only that, you can assign computer allies to you or your friend and have them help you to fight an alliance of 4 hostile AIs, for example

    That's excellent news! smile.gif

    Is this feature to be in the next patch? </font>

    There is already a toggle in the options menu so you don't have to win every scenario, it's called 'Ignore Campaign Loss', in the main Settings screen. I've not tested it, but I guess it works.

    No it does NOT work properly. In the free Russiam campaign that came with the patch i cant use this feature. Clearly buged. </font>
  7. I agree with Boog. It would be nice to not have to win every scenario. Some of them are clearly very difficult. In some cases they probably should be historically hard to win.. but the problem is you have to win them to continue with the campaign effectively.

    Is there any scope in the editor for delays or withdrawals? That would help somewhat. It would be nice if you could exit some units via withdrawal points so they didn't all get destroyed. Or have a scenario where your job was to delay the enemy for a certain time, rather than an all or nothing defense.

    It's great that units carry forward experience gains, etc.. but most of the benefit seems wasted when you come across a battle that wipes out 90% of your force.

  8. Thanks Sneaksie smile.gif

    I agree that ToW is better than CoH. It has the makings of a classic. I hope the work being done now brings it closer to that point. It sounds like the entering buildings is being done very well.

    I hope the random battle wizard works out ok. I would love to see ToW at the point where I can set a force 'point' size.. then pick my units and play a random battle. The individual control of single soldiers is great and I would love to try some single squad engagements once the enterable buildings comes in.

    Then further expansions could be released with more countries and units! smile.gif

  9. Sneaksie,

    Thanks for posting this update. I must admit I was disappointed in ToW when I first bought it and shelved it after a short time. To me the biggest problems were lack of randon/quick battles, overly scripted scenario's, LOS/LOF/cover problems, lack of ability to enter buildings and (call me petty) no on map mortar teams.

    It seems you have most of that covered, and more. Since reading your announcement I've given ToW another go and am enjoying it more this time. Partly, probably, due to lower expectations this time around, and partly because I can see the game has a future now, and is heading in the right direction.

    Playing the game again I can see there are some wonderful touches in the gameplay. There are so many good things about ToW, I hope the patch and addon can alleviate the problems. I'll certainly buy the addon if it does what you say it will smile.gif

  10. Schrullenhaft,

    Firstly.. thanks for routing out those drivers for me. The help is very much appreciated.

    I downloaded and installed the drivers (They are now showing as 4.13.01.0069)

    Regretably I'm still getting the same error message on CM.

    I recently installed EA Soccer manager 2002 on the laptop and got exactly the same error message! That too, like CM, is really designed for 3d hardware but is supposed to run in software too. However DID's TAW is similar and that runs ok.. so I'm confused, but I'll keep fiddling around.. if you have any idea's I'd be happy to try them.. Until then I can play CM on my desktop so it's not the end of the world.

    Thanks again.

  11. Thanks for replying.

    I did a search for that file and it didn't exist on the computer. I then tried to run CM again and, while the error message was on screen did the search again.. this time I got a hit in the following location;

    File found in C:\windows\temp\~efe8f1

    Filesize 504k

    My sound system in Crystal WDM Audio Codec. I tried disabling it in system manager but it made no difference.. same error message.

    Cheers

  12. Can anyone help? I'm trying to run Combat Mission from a laptop.

    I got it installed ok, but when I try to run it I get the following error;

    "Combat mission has caused an error in ~DF394B.TMP Combat mission will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer"

    Well, I tried restarting the computer.. that didn't help. Then I read in the tech help FAQ that there could a problem displaying the movie intro so I did as suggested and held the spacebar down to disable it.. then I get this error;

    "Combat mission caused an invalid page fault in module ~DF394B at 016f:012586b8"

    The laptop is an IBM thinkpad with a Celeron 550 mhz processor and 64 meg ram. It's doesn't have a 3d video card, but I've run CM in software mode on my desktop so I'd have thought it should work.

    It's not biggie cause I can run the game on my desktop but I'd really love to be able to play CM when I'm away from home.

    Any idea be gratefully received.

    Cheers
