i remember reading about french resistance capturing 3 tigers and using em against the germans around caen just after d-day...as far as i remember they were knocked out without any kills..also german troops capturing t-34s near stalingrad,they sent out snatch squads to try and capture russian engineers so they could work em properly...

ive had gone with a couple of mortar teams,they are great at killing the open top hetzers,those church 8s should be fine against his armor ,keep em in 3s,and try to flank either side to catch his armor in the middle,keep those wasps hidden well out of sight till ur sure his armor and AT units have been eliminated,or else u will be in a whole world of hurt!!!!!!!
ps...id have gone 4 a bit more inf myself,and knocked the churc v1s on the head...

i think combat general needs a lot more practise before he can even think of challenging fionn,u havent even played a ladder game yet over at cm@th,play ghost358th or a medium player like kaiman or londoner and then we will see
also this guy reminds me of our old friend kiwi joe,ring any bells,lol

i was reading this thread with interest at work earlier today,when i got home i checked my grandfathers old box(he was an unterofficer in the hitlerjugend,because i remember seeing some old photos of german tank crews,and what did i find!!!,a photo showing ss-untersturmfuhrer micheal wittmann being decorated with his liebstandarte crew 0n the 16 january 44.the photo looks like it was cut from an article,but on the back of the photo it names his crew and says that the only survivor of his crew in the war was a guy called balthasar woll,some other posts seem to mention his whole crew being killed,any clarifications from u grogs would be interesting

funnily enough monkeybutt,i remember reading a story about an american gi who stood 15 feet from a stug holding a zook and he fired it as the same time as the stug fired its main gun at him!!!,to my amazement the infantryman was blown off his feet by a near miss while his zook brewed up the stug.As far as i remember it was in the ardennes forest in 44 when this amazing story occured!!!

only 15 mins left,hmmmm,it seems like ur gonna have to expend some units then,and hopefully your opponent will take more casualties than u,just make sure u keep ur remaining inf under c+c at all times,have u spotted any of his armor???,if u have,i would engage them first,plenty of victory points to be taken there,i would say!!!!ur tigers should be able to take care of anything he has got

ps.if ur playing against the a.i,as i think u are,it should be fairly easy to flush em.

i would send in 2 half squads with a platoon leader with a +2 sneak bonus to comb the woods,this way u would have a fair idea where the enemy inf are,was the battle an assault or attack,if it was the enemy inf could be dug in in the woods,be careful,once u spot some infantry,use arty to flush em or ft units if u have them to burn the woods,trees.keep ur armor well away from the wooded areas until u know they contain no inf.hope that helps

in a fairly recent pbem game, ive had a 50 cal machine gun knock out a king tiger!!!from behind at 50 metres,though the king tiger had been immobolised and its gun had been hit,scary or what???,the crew bailed out and i killed them too.just my 2 cents worth!!!!

my topic of conversation goes back to a conversation i had 20 yrs ago with my late grandfather who served under brigadefuhrer de witt in the hitlerjugend division,he basically said that the ss divisions(mainly the classic ones)were very fanatical and believed themselves to be the best fighting force in the world,this led to my grandfather believing that ss losses,which in a lot of offensive engagements in mid 44 were 60% or higher but he said this was covered up to keep morale high.He also said that many of the commanders preferred fighting defencivly (sic) because of the divisions "saturation firepower"to back this up he told me a story about a defence around caen were the allied casualties were 10 times greater than the ss.

after reading many books on the subject of waffen ss effectiveness,ive come to the conclusion that they were much better in defence than on offence,would anybody like to enlighten me maybe or give their view as i would be very interested to hear other peoples thoughts on the subject
