Also in WW2 during Winter War 1939-1940, Soviet Union against FinlandOriginally posted by M1A1TC:Sorry, I meant end of WW1, not WW2
Stalin didnt even come in the picture at that time.
Battle of Raate Road from Wikipedia
Battle of Raate Road was part of Battle of Suomussalmi
During battle of Suomussalmi two Soviet Divisions were annihilated (other one was 44th Ukrainian Rifle division which invaded Poland 1939) and one NKVD regiment

Hey, I even understand some written Danish alltough I am not Scandinavian ( I do not speak Scandinavian language as mother tongue) I am still Nordic. We have to learn Swedish at school, Swedish is second official language and about 5-6 percent are swedish speaking in Finland. Still I understand even my Swedish is quite bad
This is also from Denmark

Why CMAK was not so popular?
There was US troops and also other good guys Commonwealth troops and North Africa is quite legendary battefield with Rommel, Montgomery and Patton and also Italy with Monte Cassino and other quite famous battles.
The Med as battlefield is not so familiar to Americans as Brits maybe?
-
Maybe not so commercially viable, there are no U.S troops for American playersOriginally posted by RommL:While looking at the period of cmsf (three months of fight) I thought about an idea for the CMx2.
the French campaign May June 40...
I think that this campaign may involve a lot of players.

Shtrafbat was quite good, I saw it in Finnish TV YLE 1 channelOriginally posted by M1A1TankCommander:I do own a large collection of Russian war movies, including TV series "Shtrafbat" But its pretty new, came out a few years ago.
It was Russian version Band of Brothers, but not about elite airborne but in very Russian style or Soviet style about Penalty Battalion (Shtrafbat)
Shtraf=Penalty
Bat= I think it is abbreviation of battalion

Also the Polish cavalry charge myth was strenghened by famous Polish movie director Andrzej Wajda in Polish movie Lotna.
In this movie there is cavalry charge against German tanks. Director was critized for this
Good article about films and the myth of Polish cavalry charge
Lotna - A film by Andrzej Wajda: The Mythology of Romanticism in the Context of War
This myth was even so strong, that particular Italian news about cavalry charge was quoted in my Finnish history book (in elementary or high school book) as an example of outdateness of Polish Army against Blitzkrieg (in Finnish salamasota) machinery of Nazi Germany.
And my history teacher in elementary school mentioned the Polish cavalry. When he talked about start of World War II and German invasion of Poland

What about unit patches arm bands for uniforms?
Decals for helmets?
Unit insignia for vehicles?
Those were 2D textures for 3D models or part of 2D textures.
Now new CM series have finer detail and graphics and those kind of things are relativily easy to make compared to 3D models
like these I mean
so different foreign volunteer units of Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS are easy just some national decal or patch
and of course helmet netting and such
last one Eastern Front stuff Za Stalina! For Stalin!

Ok I will try. Thanks for helpOriginally posted by ParaBellum:Try to use the mouse vor camera control/movement.
Maybe I did not use so much control arrows CMX1 games but other means to move the view, rotate camera (mouse), I like more the old control system. I felt anyway controlling, rotating and moving very clumsy in this CMSF

Bring back the control arrows to the GUI
I downloaded the demo. And I got frustrated because there were no familiar control arrows like in CMX1 games. I think one greatness of CMX1 games was relative intuitive and easy to use GUI (control buttons), like in chess (that ancient board game) user interface is quite simple, but itself the game is quite complex and has depth. (It did not take not much time to learn to play game, much more of course to master it)
It would good that GUI would be changed, so that control arrows would be there.
If understand about programming that would be not very difficult as you have probably used modular programming (separate GUI, separate game engine).
Maybe beta testers have told about this when they tested this game
And you (Battlefront.com) had good reasons to get rid of those control arrows from CMSF?
I mean now with these new user interface it gets more effort to familiarize with new GUI and all the keyboard keys which are used in the game.

CMSF first Combat Mission without Polish?
We had polish in CMBO (part of British troops), CMBB(part of Soviet troops) and in CMAK (part of British troop).
It was quite amazing that we had this Allied minor country in every CMx1 game. (Somebody has polish roots in Battlefront.com staff??)
Now this is first CM game without Polish if nobody else has not noticed.
Or are they again included in some future module (Poland is former Warsaw Pact country but now part of Nato).
I'm just curious
But maybe the Polish will return in some British Commonwealth module in Operation Market Garden CMX2

More atmosphere for villages, towns, cities
First I have to say vehicles and figures look great!!!! And countryside also ok.
But urban landscape is dull looking
Some pictures about town look quite desolete like from former East Germany. Too square too socialist or communist looking urban planning without cars. Yes those town screenshots look like from East Bloc "modern" town planning or desolete construction side or demolishing site.
I have not been Syria, but I think towns and cities are there more complex I mean narrow streets and not straight and maybe example stairs and so on maybe that kind of town is too hard to model.
But what about coffee houses, commercials, propaganda posters, arabic slogans and maybe trees to give atmosphere
Your opinions about this

That is good reason not to do it.would we want to delay any of that for sokmething we're not interested in doing and will be a commercial flop? But my "commercial wisdom" says that there is always room for WW II game, because that subject has been hugely popular in every country (in Finland also with or without finns ). But I will definitely buy this CMSF when it is released.

CMx2 game about Nato vs Warsaw Pact 1980's in Europe?
Good idea or not?
Not good because it did not happen? and Period of cold war has passed?
Soviets and and allies like East Germany's (GDR) NVA against US, West Germany's (FRG) Bundeswehr , Canada, Netherlands, Belgium, France, UK in Germany.
Cold War turns hot in Europe.
I think there have been discussion about this before but I did not bother to search for those threads
How many support this idea?

Those from Germany are former GDR (German Democratic Republic) or DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik) or East German NVA (Nationale Volksarmee or National People's army) inventory . We also bought Kalashnikov Ak-47 bullets for our Valmet and Sako assault rifles and maybe some GDR Kalashnikovs for our reserve forces if I remember rightthe ones we got from Germany in 1990s (made in Poland and Czechoslovakia).

If you recognize Italian voices you probably recognize Romanian voices because Romanian is Romance language ans is related to Italian. Both are Latin based languages. So Romanian resembles Italian language.Originally posted by Sequoia:Hello,
Can anyone tell me what digit the Rumanian voice wav file start with? I know the Germans are 3 and the Russians are 8 but I can't tell the difference between Finnish, Rumanian and Hungarian.
Finnish and Hungarian are Finno-Ugric Languages

It was big deal, when it happened, I mean when after Winter War 1939-1940 we lost the Karelian Isthmus. Why? we were still independent Because quite big proportion of population lived in that are. It felt so unfair that we fought like lions still we were forced to give Karelia to soviets in a war which was started by soviets.Originally posted by Dandelion:Ok. Karelia was no big deal then.
In Karelia there was Finland's second largest city Viipuri. Viipuri was only city where they spoke 4 languages finnish, swedish (also official language), german (hanseatic traditions),russian (quite near Russia).
It was place where Elias Lönnrot our national poet collected folk poems and compiled and edited them to Kaleval national epic (By the way Heinrich Himmler liked Kalevala, He liked that kind of nordic stuff, allthough we finns were not ideal nordics for nazis).
So it had also nationalistic meaning for finns.
And most importantly it was very traumatic for people who forced to leave their homes and farms.
Finnish goverment had to found to new farms for karelians from other parts of Finland.
So we were eager to join Nazi Germany because wanted to take lost territories back in Continuation War 1941-1944. During the war we had Karelian isthmus again and also we occupied the East Karelia which was not before part of independent Finland. In Karelian Ishmus they spoke Karelian dialect and in East Karelia they spoke Karelian language (related to finnish). 1944 we again lost Karelian isthmus and that time also Petsamo.
Petsamo was not so big deal why?
First Petsamo was not before 1920 Tarto peace treaty part of Finland. Tarto peace treaty was signed in Estonian town of Tarto by Finland and Soviet Russia. In that treaty Soviet Russia gave Petsamo to Finland which already czar Alexander had promised to annex to Finland in 1860's.
Because the Petsamo are in the far north was largely uninhabited area arctic tundra. Petsamo's indigenous people were Kolta Sami (lappish people), they are not finns, although their language is related to finns.
So from that area after Continuation war or Lapland war there was no mass exodus from Petsamo and it was not hearland of Finland.
Most finns today don't want Karelian isthmus back because it's post socialist or communist wasteland.
For old karelians it is some kind of romantic dreamland in their memories.
So Dandelion what about lost East Prussia or Schlesien (Silesia) for germans, not much I think just for those old folks who lived there?

Waiting for AndrewTF's CMAK Free French Infantry
You have done very nice infantry mods of different nations in CMAK and in CMBB.
Especially your Tropical Italian uniforms for the African theater are very nice betterment if compared to original ones in CMAK.
You have to log in www.cmmods.com to see picture below about Italian Tropical Infantry
But at least one is missing nice infantry mod about Free French Infantry.
Could you do again some miracles with Adrian helmet and French uniform ?
