1. I just made my first custom map and tried to design a bocage battle scene. Of course I play the Amis all the time and I arranged the field to favor the germans I even gave them a dreaded pill box 88 and 2 mortar spttoers with bigg loads of ammo..Can I arrange the german in the positions I want them in like the cimputer does in a quick battle or is that not possible and these are for 2 players all the time??

  2. I never met the man but after reading so much and watching band of brothers (after reading the book of course), I have truly heart felt sorrow for the friends and family of 1ST Sgt. Carwood Lipton. He was a true hero and I have already made it my duty to educate my son (due May 9) about WWII and all the men and women like Sgt Lipton. They should never be forgotten! And may God help anyone I ever catch disparaging that generation and what they did for the world...Does anyone know if any of the "Brothers" live in NY?? or at least in a nearby state??

    Rest In Peace Sarge....

  3. I have seen Abrams rounds a few years ago and they seemed pretty one peice to me. Like any rifle round ever produced. Brass cases and all?? Usually "caseless" ammo has a very distinct look about it Like a ceramic jar or sometimes black...these were brass.

  4. I have been playing CMBO for months now and have yet to download any Mods. One reason is there have to be thousands of them. Can one of you vet grogs point me to the best mods available for a totally pure, out of the box version of CMBO and advise me how to use them as I am about 1/4 as comp literate as most of you fine gents. Thank you all in advance and I await your suggestions.

    God Bless America

After playing combat mission a year this july I have wondered what others think about the scenarios that come with the disk. Now I finally decided to ask whats your favorite scenario, and on wednsday I will compile the overall info and tell you which is the most popular CMBO (on disk) scenario thanks. Only exception is Vally of Trouble (from gold demo)

    P.S. my favorite are

    Chance Encounter

The first "turn" of the game is the set up phase, not yet the movement phase. There is an outlined colored-border box on the map. You can pick up your units and reposition them anywhere inside that box - by clicking on them to select, then selecting a new location and hitting "P". This happens before the game begins. You can also rotate the units, hide them, and split squads.

Once you have positioned everyone, the first time you hit "go" you will simply transition to the first game turn. You can then give your first orders. The first turn itself is not processes until the -2nd- time you hit go. Attackers get to reposition at set-up too, but they get only a long, thin set-up box along their edge, while defenders can get 1/3 (probes) to 1/2 (attacks) of the map.

Between the set-up phase and the first turn, every defending gun or infantry unit not on pavement or inside a house, will dig a foxhole at its current location. They show up the moment you hit "go" the first time. A neat trick here is, if you split squads before the first turn, then at the begining have the two squad-halves move back to within around 10 yards of each other, the squads will quickly recombined - but you will have an extra set of foxholes for a fall-back position. If you integrate some positions in buildings, where you don't need foxholes, you can get more than 2 lines of defense some places too - or extra foxholes for HQs and teams, etc.

I hope this helps. Also see page 31 of the manual, explaining all the details of the set-up phase.

Thanks Jason...I must have read the book 10 times but never saw that....much obliged

  7. I am not exactly new to CM but, I just recently dicovered the beautiful world of the quick battle. I want to know though..I always, being the patriot I am, play the allied side and the germans are always dug in when I attack of course. I treid having them attck me but when I finished my choices and expected to start my game with dug in units they were lined up along the baseline of the screen like normal?? Can I get my guys set up as if I was the computer or not?? This may also seem like the most stupid question ever but, I gotta ask...

I have never heard of matching propellant to barrel length. In smaller terms if I shoot a 30-06 round which was the M-1 Garand round in WWII in a rifle with a 18in barrel, that same round is perfectly capable of being fired from a 30 inch barrel and it will leave at a much higher velocity. The same is applicable to field artillery. In WWI the paris gun had a 70 mile range and its barrel was something like 200 ft long. you could have fired that same round out of a 100 ft barrel without harm but much less range as velocity is depleted quicker.

  9. I am about two months into playing this game and I have to ask a seriously amateur question? Are mods like patches?? Are they upgrades to the game?? The ones I have seen are nice but I am hesitant to download them for security purposes?? Somebody help!! I am not a dumbass when it comes to computers just some of the gamer lingo thst all....thanks guys

  10. First I must say after reading all of your postings you all seem to have a very, very good grasp of the details of WWII. From the weapons to the people involved, So I commend all of you after I was thinking WWII was a lost subject with our generation. I digress, I several books I have read on attacking buildings and pill boxes GI's, when availible would role in a 155 and fire point blank at fortifications. As a matter of fact I think the battle of Aachen they used 6 rounds from one to clear a movie theater. The German co inside said, "He believed it a war crime to allow the use of that type of artillery in such a fashion". I know most 155 was called in via spotter but a peek or two of a 155 SP would be rather cool I think. And I know the Pershing didn't see alot of action but one or two of the late battles in 1945 most certainly did see use of the first heavy US tank and its awesome 90mm gun. I have actually seen documentary footage of a pershing hunting a panther in the streets a few weeks before wars end. He won of course scoring 3 direct hits lighting the tank up for 3 days...What do you all think??
