  1. Well, honestly i believe the estimating part is up to the commander and that's us the player.Hes the one who needs to figure out the Train A leaving from B station at xx speed while Train B leaves A station at xx miles away at xx speed type of question. Its part of the tactical decision making and i would prefer to calculate all those factors myself.Makes it enjoyable for me.(Don't like trains think fighter planes:))

After a while you'll get closer to your pixel troops and know how far, how long and how tired they will get in a certain amount of minutes and when to push them or let them rest.

What you wrote is the one primary reason why I play Real Time instead of WEGO,so I can pause when I want and have full control over my troops at any time so they are not sitting there waiting for the ticker to finish.

Thank you for the response. Maybe your last point is what I need to try instead of WEGO. maybe that is best of both worlds. Thanks!

  2. I guess what I was looking for was different then the responses I have been receiving. Most of the responses have been about pauses/delays. My question is more about knowing how much time all the commands I have issued will take to get processed so that I know if I have fully utilizied the next minute.

So if I did something like a quick move and then a move to a spot on the battlefield, just hoping there was something that would show it would take an estimated "33 seconds" to reach that objective so that I knew I still had time to issue other commands. I realize this could never be 100% accurate since things happening on the battlefield would affect it, but at least it would be an estimate.

  3. I just started playing CMSF again, after I purchased the British and Marine modules. I have a couple of questions.

    1) When playing "wego" method, is there anyway to see how long all your commands will take to process? Why I'm looking for this is because I find it hard to judge whether all my commands have taken up the full minute of time. A number of times my movements end with time remaining, wasting their ability to do more. What I would love to see is some kind of "estimate time" for each command I put in.

    2) Is it possible to see individual unit statistics? For example, look at "unit a" and see all the kills it personally had during the game.

    Thanks!

  4. Thanks everyone for your replies. To answer the question as to whether I like the base game, yes I do. However, one thing I prefer is much smaller battles. I like it better when I only have a handful of troops to control versus a ton to micromanage. How do the new battles with the modules stack up in this area? Are there a lot of smaller engagements?

    Thanks again!

  5. You know if you have the Kalypso version if the Kalypso Media logo is on the box and/or CD. There are no differences in the gameplay itself. The main difference is a different copy protection mechanism.

In general, you should be careful buying from ebay. We have had several customers buy an illegal Battlefront copy from there WITHOUT VALID LICENSE KEY. In a few cases the game came with a key alright, but that key is blocked for fraud. Happened to probably a dozen people or so in total so far.

Thanks, that is very good to know.

  6. I see the new Marine module getting great praise. I really haven't played the original game in a very long time so I have a question. Are you all liking the game because of all the fixes/enhancements that were corrected (which will be available in a patch for the original game) or the new material exclusively available with the module? So basically since another patch will be released for the original game shortly, what makes the new module worth purchasing?

    Thanks for your help.

  7. Forgot to add another quick question on the battle generator....when you go to select units and unit setup, is there a random option? I guess I would hate to setup a single player game, but know exactly where my enemy is located and what types of units they have.

In Tow everything is in motion. No abstraction. They are actually really different Games and not comparable. They only look the same in a picture and there the similarity ends.

below is a screenie of the battle generator. You have to step through a handful of screens. First you select the map, then the area, whoo attacks/defends NEXT, then you select the players and the units, NEXT then select the offmap support, weather etc. Its NOT clunky at all, quite logical, but it is utility-like. The homemade battles are come out pretty good.

Thanks for the screenshot and description. Now it has me interested since I'm thinking I could really easily create my own situations where I can limit the amount of units I need to command. Interesting indeed.

It all comes down to the amount of micromanagement you feel comfortable with. I myself really dont like to micromanage anything so this has really limited the game for me.

Not a fan of RTS at all, but I figured that hell Id su8pport battlefront.

I guess maybe I wouldn't mind micro-management so much if it wasn't combined with other elements. Meaning, if it was a small scaled game and more turn base, that would allow me to pay more attention. But from what I understand of TOW, it is real time, plus large number of units, and requires micro management. Just might not be a good combination for me, althought I have to admit I like the graphics and the fluid nature of it a tad better then Panzer Command. Although a new version is coming out that seems to have a lot of interesting features.
  10. Thanks for your thoughts....the thing that has me most worried is the micro-management....may be a little too much for my taste, although the graphics and such are very appealing to me.

Maybe after the future add-on it will take care of some of the micro-managing.

  11. I'm trying to determine if I should take the plunge...can't really decide between this game and the Panzer Command games from Matrix.

I did download the demo, but couple of questions:

    1) Is every battle huge? I find it very difficult to manage games that have tons of units I have to monitor.

    2) How exactly does the battle generator work? Is there a screen shot somewhere that shows the options?

    3) When in the game, how can you easily tell what soliders are in the same unit? Is there a way to see visibly who the leader is and then place orders to only them? It got very messy fast for me and could not in the heat of battle tell who belonged to who.

    Thanks!

  12. Gotta agree....seems odd that folks that show faith in the game and put out their money well in advance, end up behind others who just casually go and get it on release day.

When will I ever learn not to preorder...usually all ends up the same:(

With that said, still anxious to get the game, but I agree could have been handled better.

No sure I udnerstand the comment in the preview about two playbacks being required now for WEGO.

    Previous CM games:

    1. Issues orders.

    2. Turn resolves in the background (with the progress bar)

    3. Watch replay.

    CMSF:

    1. Issue orders.

    2. Turn resolves in real time on the screen.

    3. Watch replay.

So, in essence, now you watch a single minute of gameplay twice in WEGO mode: once when it is resolving a minute of gameplay (with no user interaction possible), and again as a replay. </font>

Maybe I missed it, how soon after release is it expected the CD will actually be shipped out? And when it does ship, what kind of shipping is used (i.e. next day, 2-day 3-5 day, etc.)? Will it be shipped regular post or UPS/FedEx? Just curious since I will be out of town around that date and I wouldn't want the CD to sit in my door/mailbox for a week.

    See here:
