Dell Latitude 233 & no add-ons sez - go for it. I've found space for a full installation, & it gets slow on bigger battles [but after several intermittent months I'm still at scenario level anyway]. Most but not all 'challenged-hardware' settings [ie quick smoke], but superb fun to play.

Thermo, tar, I'm sure thats largely why they start off [and iirc stay?] Rattled - to dissuade commanders from taking the Mick too much with them. [i also think tankers would feel pretty unenthusiastic continuing the fray without tank].
The 'no radios' thing is tough as it exploits a known game issue [universal spotting]. But we can't change that till the game engine changes, so I suppose may as well roll with it.

Good suggestion here not long ago [just failed to find it, so credit to whoever...] - set up a QB with free mixed force on AI side & just sharpshooters & anti-tank teams on yours, experienced preferred, as Sniper usage practice. That post also said - Hide them to stop them getting ammo-wasteful ; don't manually target snipers [or they get seen, not sure why, AI funny ?], just Unhide & let them get on with it. Same good placements as Arty spotters [wooded hilltops, 2-storey buildings if same not rare enough to be obvious etc]. Prob. good to shoot'n'scoot if they've been seen.

this seemed an appropriate forum by the title, tho' [i hope] I can't help with the freezing/crashing issue.
Not being very PC- or game-literate I was dubious about whether CM would work on my old-ish laptop. It does ! 8)
the downside [limited to]: Resolution set itself to 640x480 ; I've only run Tiny scenarios so far, & moving the camera can be Slow [shortcut keys better than touchscreen for this]. I've got the big installation [scratch 1/3 of D-drive, but its worth it!], quick smoke, 2-man squads etc. Suspect I may have to live without transparent walls.
the upside: installed & ran straight off 'as advertised'...quite quick enough so far, video is quite manageable, smoke works, and the game is good enough that I Really Don't Care if I haven't got movie-quality graphics.
So to give hope to any P233 - laptop-owning prospectives out there, here's the lowly spec:
Dell Latitude CPi Intel PII M233XT [the Boot Screen says - the case says D233XT..]
64Mb RAM ; Windows 98
video - NeoMagic MagicGraph 128XD v 4.10.01.0006-Q6.13.03
audio device 'Audio for Crystal PnP Audio System CODEC'
