  1. Well, let's see.

    1. The symbols you use to signify a better type of unit (the dots going down the side) do not mean anything in actual symbology.

    2. You use the symbol for a Fighter-Bomber for the Strategic Bombers.

    3. You use an Independent Air Force symbol for Fighters and Army Air Force symbol for bombers. A country has only one or the other.

Keep in mind, NONE of these inaccuracies are in mine.

  2. Two things I forgot to add:

    1. There is a difference in the logo between the Strategic Bombers and the standard fighters.

    2. The little "wings" of the air logos are filled in for the Americans and the minor powers, while the rest are open. This is because the filled in logo designates a unit of an Army Air Force, while the open is just an Air Force. All of the orther major powers had separate air forces, so their symbols are open. The US still had the AAF, and many minor powers had an AF so small that it had to be integrated with the Army.

  3. In the beta demo for SC, all of the units are represented by small icons (little infantrymen, little tanks). Being the detail fanatic, I decided to change that. I looked up actual symbols used on World War II-era maps. All of the symbols are actual and correct except for the Jet Fighter and Naval Unit insignia (I simply modified the standard fighter for the jet, and just kept the ships as they were). The strength of the unit is displayed with the size. For example, a corps unit is represented by the standard symbol for an infantry corps, and the army is the standard logo for an army. The Rocket Detachment is represented by the modern-day NATO symbol for a SSM division (They didn't have symbols for rockets back then). The first two levels of tanks are represented by a Tank Corps, the second two a Reinforced Tank Corps, and the third by a Tank Army. The three levels of air units are represented by the air equivalents of a Division, a Corps, and an Army. The headquarters units are represented by the standard Army Group heaquarters symbol.

For all of you out there playing the SC beta demo, I hereby present the first mod of Strategic Command: The New and Improved Unit Symbols. It adds a bit more of a realism feel into the game, and I hope you like it.

To make it simple, here is the actual .BMP file. Save it into your Strategic Command\Bitmaps directory.

  4. The DBA uniforms and flag are finished!

The DBA unis are DD's camo Heer uniforms, with the original German helmet. On both arms is the current German symbol, a black eagle on a white shield. The flag is based on Germany's WWI flag, which is identical to the WWII Reich War Flag, except with a white background, red and black stripes in the corner with the Iron Cross, and instead of a swastika in the middle it has the symbol of Germany that's on the uniform shoulder.

E-mail me if you want screenshots or the actual unis at paul.cleveland@megapathdsl.net.

  6. Well, the mod's going good, and on the topic same side battles proposed by Scooter, this mod is exploiting the fact that the FJ helmets are identical to American helmets, so you can make US troops look like FJ or vice-versa. This allows you to have Americans fighting Americans or FJ fighting FJ. But, this is restricted to only Americans and FJ until BTS allows us to have same-side combat in a later version of CM.

  7. What if that German who needed legroom didn't move the briefcase? What if the plot to kill the Fuhrer had succeeded?

That is what COMBAT MISSION: THE STAUFFENBERG PLOT is about. It features the Deutsche Befreiungarmee (German Liberation Army), which is the grouping of Fallschirmjager divisions that Rommel brought together to combat the SS, which has refused to acknowlege the new German government. In CM:TSP, the player can command units of the DBA (which are backed up by US tanks) or the remaining SS divisions during the 48 hours following the murder of Hitler: July 20, 21, and 22, 1944.

If you are interested in the mod, email me at paul.cleveland@megapathdsl.net.

  8. The two of all of these postings that I'd like to see are:

    CM24: The Great Escape

    CM: Nasa Goes to War

    and, my own...

    CM59: Stalag 13

Command each of the Heroes and operate your clandestine operation as Col Hogan or discover Hogan's secret with the Schultz and the goons as Colonel Klink.

  9. Ok, I'm sorry but for anyone who has recieved the theme so far go into your Sounds editor in the Control Panel and reassign the Start windows sound from what it is to the file called 000005010.wav in your CM wav directory. (I may have put in too many or too few 0's, but you get the idea.) The file it is currently linked to I did not include in the zip.

  11. Well, being a typical CM Addict, I have compiled a Combat Mission desktop theme that uses files from the CM directory. For example, the "Critical Stop" is a BIG explosion and the Open Windows is the music from the CM intro video. If you want it, post here with three critical points:

    1. Whether you want US, German, British, French, or Polish voice sounds.

    2. What your CM directory is (ex. C:\Games\CMBO).

    3. Your Email so I can send it to you.

  12. I have noticed, Tom, with your US Insig mod, that you put the Airborne insig patch under the US flag on the right arm. I have seen pictures of where the flag is on the right arm and the unit insig is on the left arm. I think that you should do this when applying the insigs to DDs unis.

  13. I think that there should be a difference in uni textures between regular soldiers and Officers in CM2. It would be more realistic to have the German "officer" uni be festooned with Iron Crosses and the like, then the "regular" would be just the same as in CMBO, just a guy with no special medals. With this feature, it would be easy to distinguish between an Officer and Infantry without selecting or on the go.

Actually, I once created a scenario that has a US Paratroop team that I gave FJ uniforms and weaps. During the scenario, a real FJ squad drops in and if you don't know that the guys you command are American, it looks like Germans against Germans!
