1. If you've been wondering about how useful smoke is, I think I have the answer for you.

Situation: 500pt Quickbattle small table, I'd mown down most of his attack when he landed this on me:

And viewed from my one Panzer:

What's more once the smoke cleared, and the Panzer ran out of HE shells, it started lobbing AP rounds - and started a forest fire on the hill:

So remember people, smoke can be useful - especially in large quantities - and who needs a flamethrower with tanks around? smile.gif

  2. My greatest experience has been with normal squads using their AT weapons. While playing a game the other night an enemy tank appeared on my flank and knocked out two tanks in quick succession, then tried to drive forward to get a third. Unfortunately for him, he drove right passed a hidden infantry unit, which promptly put a 'shrek up his ass.

However most of my AT teams have been quite disappointing - however I think it's troop quality that is the big deal. Lower quality troops let fly earlier, and at long range all you're going to do is attract fire from every direction, including above. Buy Vets, place 'em well, and ambush.

  3. One scenario (I don't recall which one) the sniper was in a foxhole forward of the main defense, and once I realised he was there (it was a scenario default set up and I actually missed him for three turns, only realised when I heard him shooting) I took special note. Brit infantry were advancing across the valley, and he systematically took down every AT team and arty spotter that came within his broad view.

    They're worth every penny.

  4. If you're running Windows, just use its internal screen capture system - CTRL-PRINT SCREEN. This copies the screen into the clipboard. Then paste it into your favourite image editor (even Windows Paint will do) and edit, save, resize, whatever. smile.gif

  5. Being an Aussie, I'd love to see/hear an Aussie mod.

I've checked out the sounds, and the Canadians appear to be a mix of English and French (they don't have their own sound files) so replacing them is out, which leaves replacing the English.

I'd love to hear Aussie drawl voices though:

    "Cop that, ya bastard!"

    "Strewth!"

    "Run for it mate!"

    "Watch that tank mate!"

    "Bloody hell!"

    "Right lads, let's take 'em!"

Tried recording my own voice, but I don't have the skill and software to edit these things well enough to fit into the game... plus they all sound like me smile.gif

(As an aside, I'd love to hear a South Park mod... takes away from the seriousness of the game but would be hilarious)

Other than transporting hundreds of Harpoons or lobing big ass shells at shore targets, I don't see it's purpose.

To paraphrase, badly, someone somewhere: it's not the use of power, but the projection of power, that's important.

With one (let alone two!) of those babies sitting off my coast, I'd be worried!

  7. This is only a minor problem, but...

While watching a movie if I stop it and back it up a bit, maybe change viewing angle, the sound starts to be rather "electronic" & fuzzy. I'll have to do another check, but IIRC the following turn it's OK again.

As I said, only minor, but it is a little aggravating on the ears (especially at 2am in headphones so I don't wake the Mrs!)

Anyone any thoughts? I'm runing W2K with SoundBlaster Live! Player

BTS or anyone. What compression codecs are used to create the 00005010.wav file? That is the opening music leading to the little movie.

I don't see how having different compression codecs would affect what the game chooses to run as that theme. I've tried replacing the wav file with others, and never had any success - it loads the original, obviously off the CD. Is this a bug, BTS?

  9. Greetings,

I'm running a NVidia Riva TNT2 as well on Window 2000 Professional, and have the same problem. I find that everything works fine when first going into CM and playing a game, but once the game is over I start having that problem - white pixels being transparent. I've found ALT-TABing out to Windows and back fixes it, or exiting the game and starting again.

  10.
quote:
I've thought of using the scenerio editor, but you can't do a quick battle on a premade map. You'd have to buy the forces for both sides and it takes some of the fun ou of a game if you know the exact enemy force.

This is something I'd really like - the ability to make a map, and then fight a quick battle on it. I like the element of "surprise" in not knowing what the enemy has (or, in fact, what you'll end up with). biggrin.gif
