  1. I use win98. Video card is Nvidia GF4 MX 420 64mb. Driver is 4.13.01.2832. CMBB runs fine it always has. My problem is another piece of software I have that is not running. I have been told to update the drivers. My question is which version? From what I have read here some are much better than others and do not wish to screw up CMBB. Your insights will be most appreciated. Thankyou

  2. I recently came across a description from a Tiger commander at Kursk of an encounter he had and thought I would pass it along.

" When we rounded a bend in the road in dense terrain there was a muzzle flash. It got dark in the tank. The crew lighting had been knocked out, and my right arm was caught between the gun deflector and the turret roof.

We had been hit with a high explosive round on the gun mantlet. Although a high-explosive round, even a large calibre, could not penetrate our vehicle, it still had a considerable effect. The 8.8 cm main gun of the Tiger had been dislodged from the gears of its elevating mechanism by the force of the impact. The long gun with the muzzle brake at the end of it was completely depressed, since it was no longer held in place by the mechanism. As a result, the breechblock of the cannon and the deflector attached to it shot upwards. It hit against the turret roof."

Needless to say, the tank commander's arm was badly broken.

  3. Here's the situation. There is a split squad of veteran Germans in a well prepared foxhole and about 200m to the east a Russian 76MM FG fires a couple of rounds at these guys. One of the Germans is WIA, the end result is that they all jump out of the foxhole and run across open ground where they really get pounded. If that's not bad enough, in another situation a veteran HG-MG 42 in a trench, no less, facing a human wave attack of Russians refuses to acquire a target and will not fire, eventually the crew was killed.

Am I whining about this? No, these two events are from a book that I just finished reading called BLOOD RED SNOW, and I have to tip my hat to CMBB as an excellent predictor of human behavior under stress.

  4. You could try these books :

THROUGH HELL FOR HITLER by Henry Metelmann

    GRENADIERS by Kurt Meyer

IN DEADLY COMBAT: A GERMAN SOLDIERS MEMOIR OF THE EASTERN FRONT by GOTTLOB BIDERMANN

PANZER ACES I and II by FRANZ KUROWSKI

These books don't look at any one specific battle but rather concentrate on individual German soldiers and their experiences in combat. As such, they do not include tables of equipement or organization but they will provide you with a very accurate account of what the war was like for the Landser.

  5. "One witness of what transpired next was Oberst Franz. As he moved on horseback towards the southern end of Hill 239, Franz spotted 15 T-34s approaching from the direction of Pochapintsy. As the tanks bore down upon a narrow gorge close by, he noticed that it was filled with columns of peasant carts blazoned with Red Cross flags- one of the units that decided not to leave its wounded behind.First, the tanks stopped and machine-gunned the wagons, horses, and their contents. Then, they moved forward and crushed the wagons with their treads, smashing horses and men into bloody pulp. To his horror, Franz watched as the tanks drove back and forth over the bloody mess, until nothing was the left alive." From the book HELL's GATE by Douglas Nash

  6. The Red Army Handbook is only about 227 pages long but Zaloga covers a tremendous amount of ground. Everything you would want to know about how the Red Army was organized and equiped is spelled out. Weapon specs, unit organization, and probably the most useful info when creating scenarios numerous Tables of Equipement and Organization.

There maybe better books on the Red Army but you will have to learn Russian to read them.

Another book that covers in much more detail Russian armor is Russian Tanks of World War II by Bean and Fowler. A lot of info and pictures. These 2 books, I think you will find very useful. I hope these sparse comments have helped.

  7. I played the demo. I ordered the game. It ran beautifulllll. I was using a Dell P4

I had to swap with my son who went off to college and left me his old machine.

    Dell PII R450

    128 Ram

NVidia Riva 128/128 ZX 8 mb.

    V 4.11.01.0337

    VooDoo2 3D Accelerator

I have DirectX 8.1 and I have run the diagnostics and , man, those drivers just don't get it done. The game will not run, just locks up. I am hoping that you might be able to provide some help in getting the game to run. Thanking you in advance, Mike13
